Congrats dear..we will not lose our young ones....But this is careless act from their end because Jaundice should always be part of the package pediatrics always check for while running routine check on new born.

Thank God for His intervention but there are still quite number of Nigeria hospitals that will still do better in terms of putting in proactive measure. The most important thing is when choosing a hospital - whether in Naija or Yankee, choose good one with good and experienced doctors grin. Let us even tell ourselves the truth - Most people that birth abroad, they do it not because of good medical service, na because of citizenship for their Lo grin

Congrats on your successful birth
Talk about jumping into conclusions. Ma, I live here. I did not come here to give birth (my son would have had the citizenship regardless of if he was born here or not). And no, I did not give birth in a substandard hospital or neither did I use inexperienced doctors. Thanks for your observation and prayers.

Lalakas:
Congrats and thank God for your baby.

Your write up is very true and mothers must be careful and up to ask for jaundice test before leaving hospital.

However, I really do not like you last clause, I mean the bolded.

I had my baby in Nigeria and in LUTH. Had same experience and infact higher figure of bilirubin. My baby bilirubin was 18 and was told she would be transfused and they prepare her immediately for it but still put her under light to see how she will respond before finally deciding. We ran the test different labs to be sure of the figures and all came out same.

I cried when I heard transfused . Test was being ran on her every 6 hours. Yes, clina Licent come for her blood sample every six hours. And there is another type again that she ran for every 3 hours. To the glory of God and thanks to all the doctors she was discharged in 4 days! We got discharged on dat 6 and went back for a recheck on day 10, nothing was found I her, a week schedule again and she was finally cleared of jaundice, we were now issued jaundice free note.

To add to this, she was given some drugs aside the normal lighting thing and a list of others after we were discharged.

So even in Nigeria they could have done better! God bless my country NIGERIA.
I have lost loved ones (my mom included) to the incompetence of the Nigerian Medical system. I am really thankful and happy that you got topmost care and your baby is here for you to love and hold. The same LUTH was where my mom died in July of 2016 because of gross negligence and issues that could have been avoided. My baby sister has seen several doctors because of something that could have been so easy to treat to no avail. I took her to the doctor her and all it took to get her relief was one tiny pill. Once bitten, twice shy. My case was/is, many times bitten.

And no, I am not knocking on anybody's hustle, Nigerian hospitals do try, irrespective of the limited resources they have to work with, I just wish it can be better. It's gladdens my heart that they are striving to do better and I hope issues such as my mom's can be avoided in its entirety. Thanks

Sis..please dont feel offended.......i did not mean to upset you from my last statement. Just airing my opinion. i am saying what is applicable for most of us in Naija. I am embarking on the birth tourism and I can categorically beat my chest that why i am doing this is for citizenship for my LO, likewise most of the people i know here too and is not a crime....There is still very good medical services here in Naija. Your last statement "cos I am pretty sure the story would have been different if this was Nigeria" looks very slighted to we that live here because I know it is not true and can never be true. You cant be sure when you live in Yankee. Anyway,No pun intended.

Congrats to mamas that have delivered. God be with your babies.

I have a small observation pls. I noticed some mamas here don't have confidence in their doctors. Mamas, pregnancy is a very delicate period and a precious or precious gifts are growing inside of you that God gave you to have and hold, pls try your best to work with doctors you can trust. Before you go to a hospital, make enquires, even if you have registered, you are not obliged to keep using there. Its your money, its your right, its your body. If you feel u can't trust this doc or Gynae, pls leave that place. Ask questions from other women you meet there.
When I was preggy, I asked some pregnant women i met there if they have used d hospital before and how the nurses treated them during labour, if they had episiotomy, how the stitching was like I.e pain. Personally I cant stand someone raising voice at me let alone during labour.

Also, pls there isn't much of a big deal in induction and episiotomy. If you are asked to come for induction, abeg pack your bag and go and get induced. These docs are professionals, your health and your baby's is paramount abeg. Yeah, if induction fails, CS. Thank God for CS. Do you know how many women CS has saved?
I believe this my epistle will/has touched someone.
Since I could, you can. God bless you.

Sure. I understand. I was born in Nigeria. I lived there for a while as well. My Dad is still there and I visit often cos of him. I apologize if you felt slighted, that was not my intention but everybody has their own stories to tell. If you read my previous post, you would see reasons for my words. My mom died in the system, due to issues that could definitely have been avoided. I will always be bitter when/if I remember all that led to her death. We can always pray and hope for the tide to change.
