Yeah...Just completed Episode 3 . Quite interesting. I suspect the interpreter is a mole

frumentius:
Who here is watching "The Long Road Home"? I've read the book, and have downloaded the first 3 episodes but am wary as screen adaptations almost invariably fail to do justice to the book.

I think this is worth sharing, he also prophesied the death of a Malawian President.

His super structure collapsed under his nose, no prophesy. What's our business with the fall of Mugabe and the death of a Malawian somebody? undecided

See, Mugabe is not out yet... In fact, he might be winning. This is why:

- The vice-president (Mnagwagwa) and the military need the blessing of Mugabe to avoid their takeover being called a coup and Robert knows it.

- He can prolong or stall the negotiations, he knows that his family is safe.

- Him prolonging the negotiations slows down the military/Mnagwagwa momentum and adds some frustration

- Him prolonging the negotiations buys him time for his team to actually strike back

- He would want to exploit all SADC/AU laws that would keep him in power for the duration of his term

- He might actually get support from Zuma who may want to use soft diplomacy to soften or frustrate the military/Mnagwagwa alliance

Right now, Mugabe has them at equilibrium, he can walk out of his house if he wished, the world is watching and no one would like to kill a sitting president and walk away with it.

No, for various reasons:
1) Unlike Mugabe, M7 actually was a liberation army commander;
2) Because of 1 above, he's never had to bolster his standing with the army by bringing veterans onto his Cabinet - Mugabe's tactical error was firing his deputy Mnangagwa, whose liberation army contemporaries comprise virtually the entire ZDF General Staff;
3) Unlike Mugabe who forced his wife onto the top echelons of Zanu-PF only 2 years ago, M7 started positioning his relatives onto strategic centres of power decades ago already.

I can't say more, but you're wrong. A clue: Mnangagwa flew from SA to a Zim Air Force Base yesterday; SA govt approval is required to file a flight plan which terminates in a military base. Only thing being negotiated is the modalities of Mugabe's stepping down without breaching the Zim Constitution, SADC/AU precepts and the timeline for a transition to free and fair elections.
Happening right now and PICS: SA MinDef, SA MinSS and SANDF DI Chief convened a meeting between Mugabe, ZDF Chief Chiwenga, Zim MinDef and others.

To add on the Zim saga.

- If you may remember, the Zanu-PF youth league supports the Grace Mugabe faction (the G40). You may remember that they once threatened to turn the country upside-down if the military stepped in... At the moment they are still shocked at what happened because they had not planned anything. Mugabe' stalling actually buys them time to regroup and take actions on the street.

Zimbabwe is a big country, the military is not undermanned, it's powerless without the police who are already hating the military treatment. Any form of youth resistance on the streets would actually change everything on the ground, they would cause chaos, keep the military busy and stretched. If by any chance the military becomes hard on the youth, the tables would have turned because they'll play the victim civilian card... This is how they'll get sympathy from the AU.

If the SADC/AU would want to negotiate with Robert, he may play the "I don't negotiate if the military doesn't go back to the barracks" card.... If he gets his wish, he'll simply fire the general after that and get his trusted soldiers on top position and charge some people for treason.
Most of the members of dis-Grace's G-40 faction have been secured, for their own safety wink.
The Zanu-PF Youth League reminds me of Malema's ANCYL: all bark and no bite! There is no fight-back. It's only the terms under consideration.
When Mnangagwa came to SA last week after his firing, and Chiwenga made his statement on Monday surrounded by almost all the ZDF top brass, and all dis-Grace and her G40 could muster was the Youth League, it was curtains.
It's not as elegant as how Mbeki manoeuvred Nujoma out of 3rd term thinking and into retirement, but for the good of Zimbabwe, SA and SADC, it'll do.

You won't believe that I have not seen snow since 93 at my cousin's place far from where I live, I was very young. Just remember fluffy things coming down the sky and white rooftops and you know black parents right? They wouldn't let you out... As for not needing visa to see snow, I'll simply say you have no idea what it would take to get a black guy to be in snow. You may probably need girls and beer on the snow to get black guys somehow interested in actually getting there.

If you see South African snow pics, you'll actually see white parents and their kids playing on it. Black parents and their kids would be burning the coal inside their houses, they ain't coming out grin

We still don't have enough data to know how it manifests in various regions. In military planning circles there's a theory doing the rounds - to which I'm partial - that the Sahel will be the first region in Africa where blood is spilled because of the coming water wars, as a result of the random and unpredictable effects of climate change. I differ: it's already here. And as proof I offer Darfur and to a lesser extent, the conflicts wrought by Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria and others on the Sahel belt.

PICS: The coming/presumed climate change conflict "Ground Zero" in Sahelian Africa.

Say what now?
First time I went to Tiffindell Ski Resort as a university student, my then girlfriend (black Saffer) had to endure an entire week-end of embarrassing looks cast towards this white boy falling on his arse on skis. My only redemption is that I could snowboard, though not as well as the (black) kids from the surrounding villages.

Come on Frum, you know those are very unique black people, the rest are watching the whole shebang from the windows.... I went ice skating 3 weeks ago for the first time in my life, just a few kilometers away from the Black Hawk you and GreenandGold kept talking about? Do you know what? White kids were skating like pros and let's not even talk about what I and the other darkies did.

grin

BTW, I'll be sharing the latest on Bob... I'm actually right, my assessment might hold water.

A ZDF colleague saw our interaction and added another differentiator; I'll quote part of his email:
"Both the UPDF and the ZDF went into the DRC on opposite sides - in Uganda the spoils were distributed widely, in Zim only the chefs ate. We fought, died, and came home to ever-decreasing pensions whilst civilian Zanu chefs used our blood to fatten their bank accounts in South Africa, Britain, and other Commonwealth locales."

SADC deal donehuh grin grin grin

Lt Gen J Nyembe, SANDF Chief of Defence Intelligence (DI) flanking Mugabe with Zim Def Force Chief Gen Chiwenga at the conclusion of the SADC convened meeting between the ZDF and the Mugabe block tonight.

DI gets more power if a deal is clinched, seeing they're not even listed as part of the official delegation.
