Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) at the weekend said those saying the anti-corruption war under President Muhammmadu Buhari has lost its steam and is no longer effective are abysmally ignorant people who are trying to discourage the anti-graft war.

Responding in a chat with INDEPENDENT to criticisms from some Nigerians about the ineffectiveness of the anti –corruption war which has not witnessed any high-profile conviction since the current administration took over, Sagay who said the view is made in bad faith added that those saying the anti-corruption war has lost its steam have no evidence to back their claim.

According to him, the Buhari administration will not relent in its quest to ensure that all those who looted the nation’s patrimony are brought to justice.

“ That view that the anti-corruption war has lost its steam is made in bad faith and it is made by people who either beneficiaries of corruption trying to discourage the anti-corruption fight or are abysmally ignorant. In what way has the anti-corruption war lost steam? “

“There is no day that passes that looted funds and assets are not recovered. Few days ago, the appeal against Bukola Saraki, Senate president has been concluded. It is just for the court to read the judgment. There are so many other cases going on. Rotimi Oyedepo got conviction of a professor in Ibadan who misused public funds in the Institute of Agric. So many other cases are going on which I can’t remember”.

“Those saying the anti-corruption war don’t have any evidence to back their claim. The anti-corruption war is moving on with full speed. Prosecutors were being trained and retrained. I just came back from a workshop where prosecutors were retrained in Abuja.

EFCC and ICPC are determined and we are trying to revive the Code of Conduct Bureau which has been asleep”.

“It is an illusion to say the anti-corruption war has lost steam. It is the wish of the corrupt ones for it to lose steam so that they will not be brought to justice but they will fail” he said

Sagay have gained a notoriety as one learned fella that have traded his conscience with the all encompassing corrupt APC government.
No wonder this loud-mouthed fella shamelessly defended the ousted but yet to be prosecuted former SGF-Lawal Babachir even when evidences abound of his indictment in gross corruption.
Same Sagay that accuses the APC leadership of corruption? Same Sagay who ironically as Buhari's anti-corruption adviser have overseen countless corrupt acts by top officials of this government swept under the carpet
Arms scandal probe,Baru/NNPC-gate,Mainagate etc among many.An anti-corruption war that selectively exclude APC criminals but kept hounding opposition element.Big shame on this man.He is a disgrace to the legal profession.
