Electrical Faults, Brain Box, Burnt Coil, New Engine On Nissan Moran 04 by augustinereg: 9:04am On Nov 23, 2017
Hi please I would like some professional help, I was advised to change my Nissan Morano Engine and, I did to a new one. Before I changed the engine it was developing fault and, the car was not raising (can't accelerate) the Mechanic checked and said Gear was fine, the engine is bad any way so we changed the engine so we know no major issues than electrical. So we changed the Engine.

Now the car still doesn't raise,
When we put it on it burnt two coils on the new follow come engine.
I have been through hell how come the Electrician mentioned Brain box, but we suspect the wiring is wrong as well.

But given the fact that the car never raised before we changed the engine/(the same electrician said the problem was the engine) and, still isn't raising and the electrician scanned the car nothing less than 3 times and even had to use computer to reset the car and in all this time him and his team of Electricians didn't mention any thing like brain box I want to get rid of him sharply.......

I'm currently struggling with a similar issue.

My car engine had a broken piston so I decided to change the engine rather than fix/replace the piston.

GOT the engine and replaced. Then the electrician came to tell me after that my brain box is in 'code' whatever that means... Now he's saying I have to change the brain box.

u really nee help but a lot of missing information. Ur mecho didn't do well to have gone for a replacement engine. So based on that I can't trust his conclusion that the gear is alright. When you say it doesn't accelerate, is it when the vehicle is in motion. When idle, does rev in proportion to the load on the throttle pedal? At idle, does the rpm rev beyond 3k. Did you scan prior to engine change. If yes, what were the codes. Did u work on the transmission recently, even if it was fluid change? What's the history of this Murano. How long have u been using it. We can start helping when these questions and more are answered.

Misdiagnosis. If the problem were engine, then the new engine would not have the same problem.

When we put it on it burnt two coils on the new follow come engine.
I have been through hell how come the Electrician mentioned Brain box, but we suspect the wiring is wrong as well.

This is when the diagnosis is accurate. Sadly, the mechanic is handicapped. Sadly also, we have this unreasonable dichotomy of mechanical engineer and electrical engineer as far as fixing cars in Nigeria is concerned. One needs to have general practitioner knowledge in both to do a good job of repairs. The average kazeem is thus incompetent to work on cars since 1996.

The mechanic is a quack. The electrician and his team are quacks. There is more to diagnosis than scanning. If the team found nothing, then they are not worth the titles they bear.

Is this a flooded car?
There are a series of tests to determine what's wrong and why.

It is painstaking and intellectual.

It can be done...it.will take time, resources and plenty of cash.

If you are willing to dole out serious cash, I will gladly offer my services.

I like Murano and Maxima very well.

Op, next if you want to change Murano engine kindly change to Maxima engine. I am not joking, with Maxima engine in your Murano you have no problem especially if is maxima engine of '02.

Also, due to frequent Murano gear problem which is usually caused by oil. I know some people that have used Maxima gear to replace Murano and they are enjoying it.

Thank me later.

Infiniti G series
Infiniti M35
Infiniti FX35

I don't think the engine is the problem, its the mechanic and owner that aren't towing the right path.

The truck has a problem which is not unusual, the mechanics are clueless which is not unusual, the owner asked for help after the gang banging not unusual.

If owners will only take a minute a to ask for help here first for free before they embark on this long expensive path then this forum will be full of valuable information

Location of the vehicle ?
Re: Electrical Faults, Brain Box, Burnt Coil, New Engine On Nissan Moran 04 by TRYGO(m): 10:51am On Jun 24, 2018
Here would be my diagnosis online.

Car doesn't rev beyond a certain threshold, and you were advised to replace the engine, you did. This does not make sense to me here. How could a no revving situation be traced to an engine replacement?

I would have started with the least to the most on a troubleshooting tree.
They should have started with servicing or cleaning up the throttle body assembly, fuel injectors, and even, checking the pressure on the fuel pump.

¶¶¶¶¶If all those checked OK, the catalytic converter of the car should have being the next thing to check. If it is clogged internally, this would hamper back pressures exiting the tali pipe. ¶¶¶¶¶

All of the above points takes care of the NON RAISING PROBLEM.

For the #2ignitiin cooks getting burnt, the only probable cause would be,

1. there may be some kind of short circuit problems occurring on the signal or ground circuit on that car, in such away that the ECU now, only sends out the normal 12V, without being able to receive a 5 or so volt signal.

If this is the case, the wiring harness on the designated circuits, maybe shorted, and it would be pertinent the source is traced.

What kind of engine seats is your car using? The electrical ones, or the manual ones? If its the electrical ones, disconnect the connectors, and you're done.

If there aren't short circuit problems, the likely cause of the ignition coil burnt outs is the ECU as the electrician has said.

But my worries is y not the electrician, try troubleshooting the least things FIRST, before concluding its the ECU, as your mechanic wrongly concluded on the engine?

In summary,
1.Its an electrical problem for the coins to be burning out.
Check for ground problems(short circuits).
ECU should be the last option.

2. Non revving. Try cleaning the throttle body assembly before replacing it.
Have your panel beater remove your exhaust system, then start the car. It should rev beyond 3RPM, of there isn't problem with the exhaust system.

Hope you get this sorted out soonest!

I had exactly this same problem with my 2001 Infiniti QX4. The ride had issues with top gasket and after my mechanic changed it, the engine started behaving as you described above. Mechanics upon mechanics tried to fix it but to no success. Electricians were brought in and the issue persisted. I had to change the engine but nothing changed. I also changed the brain box but it did not solve the problem. The expenses in all totaled to about N800k back then in 2011 although they were being spend in small small bits. The problem I had then which is what I think you are now going through is that you love this your ride so much and will be willing to spend money in order to fix it. My final advice to you is to SELL IT and move on. Trust me, you will start sleeping well after that. My QX4 I bought N2.6 million had to be sold for N500k and I never regretted it. I wish you all the best.
