Blacks do not have lower IQ for we are created equally black and white. only that the condition or environment we are in determines how we use our IQ Sagamite: |

mccben4:- Low IQ potential. - Underdeveloped brain. Hence leading to more probability of making stupid decisions, statements and claims without much reasoning. They argue and debate without much resort to verifiable fact. They easily believe any nonsense, no matter how idiotic it is and without any attempt by themselves to question and verify what they are told. Hence they are very susceptible to religions and fake news, which further enhances their prolific stupidity in making decisions, statements and claims. This is why you see them: - with human head trying to use it for money - going to Libya to get to whiteman country - ignoring their pastor living in luxury while they live in penury etc. Also they are very unproductive in most intellectual ventures, hence they are the poorest of all races in every part of the world. |

So this year's Nobel Prize (in the science category) have been announced: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62r02z75jyo As with previous awards, no black person has won a prize in the science category. One of the reasons I stated why that hasn't been possible is because our brilliant folks put economic sustenance first before research. The monetary benefits of scientific research take so long to materialise meanwhile our brilliant folks (the majority who are from average families) who went for further studies in the abroad are more interested in making money because of the prevailing conditions they found or find themselves in. Before these awards were announced, the tale of my university mate who had a first class in Chemical Engineering made me remember this thread because this is someone I am ready to give my all if he was interested in a PhD. I would have thrown every support system I have and know to see him gain admission into a top university in the US (I had CALTECH in mind). But as he revealed, he needs money, not further degrees. The other brilliant folk declined a PhD because he too wants to earn money. Maybe because they are slightly older than I am, but earning money quickly was their major reason for not pursuing a PhD. On the other hand, for those who pursue a PhD, tend to go into the private sector rather than academia or continue research. However, judging from the Nobel laureate, the vast majority were in academia for ages as this provide the time and space to pursue basic research findings without thinking about the costs involved or profit motives. The private sector does not have that time to wallow. In conclusion, we will still wait for who the first black person in the science category will be. Till then, this year's winners have done well. One interesting aspect I noticed (I didn't read else anywhere) is Karl Reed whose PhD students won both the 2023 and 2024 Chemistry prizes. Also, it seems relatively easy to predict who will be a Nobel laureate in the medicine/physiology and maybe chemistry categories. How? Check the winners of the Albert-Lasker Medical Award and the Breakthrough in Science Award. When a black person wins any, then it is highly likely that person will one day win a Nobel Prize. Another way to presage is how relevant or commercially mind-blowing that discovery or innovation/invention has been in today's world. Gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9) and AI have won awards even though their timelines are much shorter than the usual Nobel laureates' findings. cc: kelechi009 |

Gerrard59:Hmm I agree with you, and quite frankly agree with the argument we use to have that the white man is actually far more intelligent than the black man, it took me a while to get here but I am eventually here. I'll probably create a long thread to explain this later on. I sincerely wish we never left the English slavery called Colonisation, my life would have been better off being colonised. I'm so livid right now. But back to the point, you've made a great point about why many talented people, especially from average backgrounds, choose money over further studies or research. Using Nigerian footballers as an example is a good way to explain this. Just like some of our best players choose to play in less competitive leagues for higher pay, many brilliant minds in Africa do the same with their careers. They prioritize making money quickly because they need to support themselves and their families. The same thing happens with scientists. To do big things in research, like winning a Nobel Prize, you need time, money, and support. But for many, survival comes first. They take jobs that pay well right away instead of going into research, which can take a long time to pay off. This is why we don't see as many black people winning Nobel Prizes in science yet, many are focused on overcoming financial struggles. Before anyone can think about making big discoveries or building research institutions, they have to defeat poverty. If we can create better opportunities for people to succeed without worrying about money, then more brilliant African minds will have the chance to shine in research and maybe even win a Nobel Prize one day. |

Kelechi009:No vex o, but were you serious when you typed those words? I whispered "Ah!" But back to the point, you've made a great point about why many talented people, especially from average backgrounds, choose money over further studies or research. Using Nigerian footballers as an example is a good way to explain this. Just like some of our best players choose to play in less competitive leagues for higher pay, many brilliant minds in Africa do the same with their careers. They prioritize making money quickly because they need to support themselves and their families. You explained it better. The Maslow Hierarchy of Needs explains everything. But if so, how come older Chinese scientists who grew under Mao were able to forge ahead in research? Let's not forget that the Nobel rewards mostly if not entirely basic research. What about Indians and Pakistanis? Fine, some of them were raised in the West and/or almost all (early Indian and Pakistanis) scientists studied in Western institutions. So did we. How come they were able to focus on research and generate fantastic ideas which had great impacts? If we say poverty and colonisation are the obstacles, how come Pakistanis and Indians forged ahead? For poverty, we have had Chinese who grew up under Mao and Japanese who lived and had their lives disrupted after the World War cart away prizes. |

Gerrard59:Yes, I was doing a study of life in Nigeria from 1940s to 1960s for a project I am working on, I realised that Nigeria would have been better off staying colonised, so far so little has been achieved with the so-called independence. I looked into other African countries as well, there are fairing much better but we are in the same boat. Nigeria never developed one bit since then. We will keep creating oppressors over oppressors in the next 100 years, the worse than Abacha regime will still happen. We're not even there yet. I have siblings back in Nigeria & I'm trying to move them out, but looking at the cost per head, It is costing me a lot. I'm upset. |

Kelechi009:The structure of Nigeria is the issue. But then, other African countries that are much more homogenous and peaceful have not really progressed. Maybe we should define what is progress and which countries have progressed over the years. However, about the developments, for infrastructural developments, we have put in place what the British never did. They only invested their soul in Southern Africa. Na why dem no gree comot on time. |

Gerrard59:For Africans, it could be greed. We want always want to steal and amass wealth. I don't know about Indians or Pakistanis, but the Chinese govt paved the way for it citizens. Instead of just relying on universities, the Chinese government created a system that focused on practical skills through apprenticeships. During Mao’s time, many schools and universities were closed, but young people were taught hands-on skills in industries. They learned by doing, not just studying in classrooms. This helped China build a strong base in manufacturing and engineering, which later supported scientific research. By the time China started producing Nobel Prize winners, they had already built the skills and resources needed for research, even though many scientists grew up in poverty under Mao. |

Gerrard59:If the structure of our country is the issue, then why are the much more homogeneous and peaceful sub units/states failing to make progress? Maybe our misunderstanding of infrastructural development is the reason. How have we put in place infrastructural development that the British never did, in the areas of water and sanitation, electricity, healthcare, education, railways etc taking into consideration revenue and population growth ![]() |

At the base is lack of sacrifice. Money/Funding is another. Mentality is another. Sociology (mentality of your immediate society). Attitude of colleagues/household too matters. The joseph syndrome. Tell them your big target and they will hope you never make it. Fire brigade approach too is there. Craze for title and thus doing the least minimum to qualify. Greed too. |
