Crossing from mathematics department is not always guaranteed so unless you can live with the possibility of remaining in the department, I believe the direct entry(although also a gamble even with the distinction) is a better option

I don't think this info is correct, you can't expel a student after just one semester, those 580 were advised to put in more effort to avoid rustication. Please correct if I'm wrong.

They'll be asked to withdraw IF THEY FAIL TO MEET UO WITH THE MINIMUM CGPA AT THE END OF THE SESSION.
