Mr. Herbert Wigwe

Mr. Wigwe started his professional career with Coopers and Lybrand Associates, an international firm of Chartered Accountants. He spent over 10 years at Guaranty Trust Bank where he managed several portfolios including Financial institutions, Corporates and Multinationals. He left Guaranty Trust as an Executive Director to co-lead the transformation of Access Bank Plc in March 2002 as Deputy Managing Director. He was appointed Group Managing Director/CEO effective January 1, 2014.

He is an Alumnus of Harvard Business School Executive Management Programme. He holds a Masters degree in Banking and International Finance from the University College of North Wales; a Masters degree in Financial Economics from the University of London and a B.Sc. degree in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Mr Wigwe is the Chairman of The Access Bank .
You still don't get it do you? shocked Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe jointly bought over Access Bank, and nurtured it to great heights. In fact, Aig was the MD of Access bank until 2013, when he then handed over to Wigwe. His shares in the bank are still intact. Both Wigwe and Aig-Imoukhuede jointly own controlling shares in the bank. Is Aig an Igbo man? huh So how can you attribute the rise & growth of Access Bank solely to Wigwe, and call it an Igbo bank? I know you went to school, so you should be able to spot the difference. undecided

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede is a Nigerian banker, entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist. After qualifying as a lawyer, Aig joined Continental Merchant Bank (Chase Nigeria) followed by Prime Merchant Bank and moved to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in 1991 where he remained for 11 years, being appointed Executive Director in 2000.

He resigned from GTB in 2002, and with his business partner Herbert Wigwe, arranged the financing and acquisition of Access Bank plc. During his tenure the bank acquired Intercontinental Bank, a large but failing Nigerian bank. Standard & Poors upgraded the bank's credit rating in September 2013, and Access Bank became the fifth largest bank operating in Nigeria.

In December 2013 Aig voluntary retired as CEO, handing over to his successor Wigwe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aigboje_Aig-Imoukhuede
As for Union bank, it cannot be regarded as an Igbo bank by any stretch of the imagination. Union Bank used to be known as Barclays bank, before it became Union Bank.

https://nigerianpilot.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/unionbank-logo.jpg

Union Bank of Nigeria’s rich history can be traced to 1917 when it was first established as Colonial Bank. In 1925 the bank became known as Barclays Bank DCO (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas) resulting from its acquisition by Barclays Bank. Following Nigeria’s independence and the enactment of the Companies Act of 1968, the bank was incorporated as Barclays Bank of Nigeria Limited (BBNL, est. 1969).

Between 1971 and 1979, the bank went through a series of changes including its listing on the NSE and share acquisitions/transfers driven by the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Acts (1972 and 1977); this resulted in its evolution into a new wholly Nigerian-owned entity. To reflect the new ownership structure, and in compliance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act of 1990, it assumed the name Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. (UBN “the Bank” or “Union Bank”).

In 1993, in line with its privatisation/commercialisation drive, the Federal Government divested by selling its controlling shares (51.67%) to private investors. Thus, Union Bank became fully owned by Nigerian citizens and organizations all within the private sector. During the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) banking sector consolidation policy, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc acquired the former Universal Trust Bank Plc and Broad Bank Ltd, and absorbed its one-time subsidiary, Union Merchant Bank Ltd.

Following the banking crisis in 2009 and the intervention of the CBN via Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), the bank was recapitalized in 2012 with an injection of $500 million by Union Global Partners Limited (UGPL), a consortium of local and international investors. UGPL acquired 65% of the bank’s shareholding and in the last quarter of 2014, AMCON’s remaining 20% stake in the bank was acquired by Atlas Mara. https://www.unionbankng.com/who-we-are/our-history/
Igbos controlling commercial banks in Nigeria
Reduce your lies, abeg. shocked And Herbert Wigwe is not the Chairman of Access Bank Plc, like you erroneously claimed earlier. He was appointed Group Managing Director/CEO effective January 1, 2014. Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga is the current Chairman of Access Bank Plc

Mrs. Mosun Belo- Olusoga is the Principal Consultant/Programme Director of The KRC Limited. She served on the Board of Asset and Resource Management Company and previously chaired the Equipment and Leasing Association of Nigeria.
With an illustrious banking career spanning nearly 3 decades, she retired from Guaranty Trust Bank in 2006 as Executive Director, Investment Banking. She was at various times responsible for Risk Management, Corporate and Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, Transaction Services and Settlement.

Mrs. Belo-Olusoga was the Chairman of Credit and Finance Committee until her appointment as the Chairman of the Board in July 2015. She also served as a member of Audit, Governance and Nomination and Risk Management and Remuneration Committees. She joined the Board of Access Bank in November 2007.. http://www.accessbankplc.com/pages/about-us/board/Mrs-Mosun-Belo-Olusoga.aspx

This Lagos thing is still really paining you. Lagos was,is and will forever remain Yoruba land. The binis, the Portuguese and British all came and were finally swept away by the stronger Yoruba influence in Lagos. cool

If the citizens of Ebonyi claim as their constitutional right to be in Lagos or any part of the Federation, then they must also exercise the same empowerement and challenges faced by others in Lagos.

The Governor of Ebonyi's intervention is a subsidy. We would like to know in Lagos the beneficiaries of the largesse, they owe tax on the windfall gift.
