It is only by God's grace that we survive in this country. Our healthcare is zero. Everything sef is zero. Both the government and people are at fault. Most CMD's of Teaching hospitals in Nigeria are even worse than the country's government. They run the hospital down till it becomes a death trap. Doctors salaries are poor so are teachers salaries, police, military and most civil servants so that's no excuse. We all know that salaries of doctors and other outfits in private sector are even poorer yet they perform better. The problem in our hospitals are:poor funding, embezzlement, government officials not using public health facilities, bad lackadaisical attitude to work, poor management and supervision by their superiors(because they are even worse),greed and ultimately no value for life by the Nigerian Government, patients and health practitioners in Nigeria. So everyone is liable. May the family of the deceased be consoled. It's well. |

Whose Fault? People will always lay blame on doctor (sometimes nurses).....i stopped complaining since the time the first lady went to the 3 billion clinic and could only rant and complain and since then nothing has been done. Do they Care? Any little complain and they are out of the country. May God keep us in health and may we be wise in voting leaders |

[quote author=9jakohai post=62961552]Hmmmm 1.We were not told what disease the friend was suffering from....that needed a consultant, or how long it took said friend to get to the hospital from onset of illness. 2.Teaching hospitals in Nigeria are busy. 3.Healthcare funding in Nigeria is low because we are not willing to pay for it. Govt refuses to fund healthcare adequately, and people want 'free health care' which between them deprive hospitals of funding. 4.I know doctors in this country can be awful....but sometimes, people just bash medics without getting the full facts.[/quo You are a standard bastard!!!... You will never have sense , may you loose your close one same way and understand that the hospitals are busy and people don't want to pay for treatment despite the huge tax generated by the government. |

Its unfortunate what happened to the above person. I had a miscarriage that was managed in LUTH emergency, I won't get into details but the Doctor on call tried his best because I kept bleeding and almost passed out. He had to set an infusion in the car cos no bed space till late at night when we kept insisting that a solution be provided. From that point we went to buying drugs, scanning at each point you will experience a hitch cos people are tired and they want immediate gratification. When I was discharged to go cos I spent 10hrs there the uneducated nurse came and said before the canulla for drip set will be removed I will do an assessment. The so called assessments was for us to go to the pharmacy and X-ray department where the finance people are staying at the moment. On getting there I was asked to pay for Ward and soap. Note I was brought into emergency and I didn't stay up to 24hrs so why the above payment. Its not the money that is the issue but why give it a name just to syphon funds that won't be accounted for via TSA.We left I removed the drip set myself,I will go back for review and I will require explanations until it's given I won't part with my funds. Until we require accountability at our level, we will not see any change in Nigeria, this is our country and we must detect what happens to us. Even if you leave your relatives are here so let's rise and walk to change. God bless you, God bless Nigeria. |

I am a living testimony to this. May 2014 I was rushed to LUTH from federal medical centre yaba ,only to be told there was no bed. They even showed us a bullet ridden man that was seriously bleeding to death lying in the car beside me , that infact I was third on the queue. They asked if we can pay 50k for a private ward and that the consultant won't be around till Tuesday and Thursdays...and this was Friday. my people the rest na story. . .If you don't believe in God , then you need a psychiatrist. If they refer you to LUTH and it is the only place they think you will get help, please please say your last PRAYERS. |

emeths:Bed shortage is a worldwide phenomenon. No hospital can cater for everyone at all times. We need more hospitals and better funding. Should Nigeria adopt the NHS standard of the UK we would be better for it though Nigerians would still complain. Every worker should contribute a portion of his monthly salary even 2.5% to a trust which manages the government hospitals and then we'll see some improvement. Otherwise it would continue to be Medicare to the highest bidder. |

I've got a colleague who's a Resident Doctor in Psychiatry in LUTH who abandoned his training for greener pastures abroad once he passed his exams. Even Consultants are dumping their posts to start afresh abroad. Yet PMB continues to say anyone that wants to leave should leave and the Zombies keep chanting "Sai Baba" like deranged clowns. My target is b4 my ECOWAS passport expires in 2020 for me too to vamoose comot this shithole. Make una continue to dey blame doctors while you hail Senators that lavish your commonwealth on exotic lifestyles....Nigerians are just comical. |

Our government is to be held responsible, LUTH is a referral center from all hospitals, and we know the population of Lagos. Why can't government expand such hospitals equip them and increase man power even the few people that are working there are traveling out seeking for greener pasture because they know what there counterparts are abroad are earning. Same thing goes to UCH, LASUTH e.t.c.But our law makers are busy buying 360cars worth billions of Naira when they can not even pay good salary for their workers. |

FroshJaynex:But someone needs to pay...somewhere. Ghana also has a smaller population than Nigeria. Revenue for the treasury in Nigeria has been diminished by corruption, the fact that our economy is poorly diversified, and so on And in Nigeria...we do have health insurance. NHIS, PHIS dey...you only pay 10% of costs. Plus...we still don't know what illness the op's friend was suffering from. If there is no space in a hospital, there is no space. Lagos has other tertiary hospitals. And you could have made your points without insulting me, by the way. |

LASUTH is Lagos State University Teaching Hospital located in Ikeja, also in Lagos. It is owned by the state govt. Which one exactly is she referring to? Anyway it doesn't matter. May God console her and grant the departed person, eternal rest. Amen... |

GavelSlam:Bed shortage may be a world wide phenomenon, but emergency medical care should not be part of it. If prompt emergency care had been given, the patient might have survived. |
| Re: Lady Loses Friend At LUTH Because There Was No Bed Space And Consultants by LaudateII: 1:20pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
Olemabu:Is the consultant a mini-god, a deity or a principality? Why can't the patient see him? If the case is too complicated for the Medical House Officer, junior Registrar, and senior registrar, why can't the consultant be called in? And there was no evidence to show that the Medical House Officer, junior Registrar, and senior registrar, were even available to provide the patient with emergency medical care to stabilise him or treat his condition. |

9jakohai:So because you were not told what disease the patient was suffering from, does that mean he was not entitled to prompt emergency medical care? If such care had been given quickly, and the patient was stabilised, wouldn't the story have been different? Nigerian doctors in public hospitals are some of the most inconsiderate, insensitive, unhelpful, undisciplined, uncaring species, anyone can come across. |
| Re: Lady Loses Friend At LUTH Because There Was No Bed Space And Consultants by Nobody: 1:28pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
LaudateII:Did I say anywhere that he isn't entitled to care? OK... See misinterpretation. And you missed the bit about there being no space in the hospital! In other words, hospital busy! Good afternoon. |
