PDP Chairmanship: Who Deserves The Throne by veraponpo(op):
Olufemi Sunday Afolabi

With a chain of powerful leaders in the contest, many former leaders, brothers turned foes, idols and their proteges ( Bode George and Jimi Agbaje), colleagues in one capacity or the other ( Ladoja and Gbenga Daniel), who do you think the cap will fall on when the convention of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) comes up, and election for the post of the chairman of the leading opposition party is conducted.

On the list are the following people:

1. Jimi Agbaje
2. Raymond Dokpesi
3.Segun Aderemi
4. Tunde Adeniran
5.Rasheed Ladoja
6. Olugbenga Daniel
7. Uche Secondus
8. Taoheed Adedoja
9. Olabode George

It is on record that the party has zoned the chairmanship to the South Western part of the country, unfortunately, despite this consensus which ought to be held sacrosanct by all party members, there have been other interest groups from both the South- South and the South East presenting the likes of Raymond Dokpesi and Uche Secondus.

This same script is being played out in the presidential election category as well where instead of only the North producing the presidential apirant who will bear the flag of the party in the next general elections, we have seen some southern policians displaying impunity to the consitution of the party by showing interests in the race, a good example is the incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose, who has even inaugurated his campaign team, open a campaign office and dared the National Working Committee of the party on this.

Who does the cap fit?

All the nine aspirants have their areas of strengths and weaknesses. Some have led the party before in different capacities, some have led at sub-national government levels like being the governors of their states ( Ladoja, Gbenga Daniel) before for eight good years, they have all built followership for themselves, who will emerge the winner eventually?

Another twist to this issue is the likelihood of this game balkanising the party again into factions. It has been discovered that when personal interests override collective interests, many havocs could be wrecked in any group.

A good example of this is what the imposition of Ali Modu Sherrif by Governors Wike and Fayose, as admitted by the two of them, did to the party in the recent time before the Supreme Court Judgement now returned them to Status Quo Ante. It could be inferred that their personal interests of the duo almost buried the whole party as the mechanism adn machinery of the party were hijacked outright by the imposed person(s).

What will have this December in the convention and after the convention of the party?

Will PDP break again? Now there is no srong political leader that can stand as the rallying point for the PDP. Atiku Abubakar is coming to take the structure of the party as some people believe, what effect will this have on the party and other aspirants?

All the presidential hopefuls like Shekarau, Sule Lamido, Ayodele Fayose, Makarfi, Atiku, etc already have their choice among these aspirants, this alone is big enough to break the party as it stands as a threat to the survival of the party. What will happen next in the convention.

You know these people now, who do you want up there? Who has the charisma, the mien, the strentgh of character, the right personality to lead this party? Do we need to use sentiments, merits, relationship, how rich, etc to make our choices?

Many of them have corruption cases hanging on them, do not forget. Many of them have deserted the party before and have only returned recently, does it matter?, if not, how do you compensate those who have been faithful to the party by standing in the tick and thin? Some do not have the character of a leader that can lead a great but dying party like PDP.

Who will win the race?
