If a police man asks to see my phone, I don't see any reason why I would refuse to give him.

I give them my phone to check anytime cos I've got nothing to hide, if you refuse to obey them you just gave them authorization to apply force.

It took me a while to understand the police, before you leave your house search yourself 3 times.
When you're not under investigation, you're only giving them your phone cos you're afraid of beating, that's all.

If you must show them your phone make sure you could see everything they are doing, I remembered once I allowed one to check my office laptop only to get home I realise my laptop is connecting to one satellite, I don't still understand how he did it .
Had to format and reformat the system
If they were using it to monitor any fraudulent activity, that would actually be genius.

so at your age you don't know what is privacy? Why would you give him your phone to go through your messages and emails. Even as a suspect a police has no right to invade your privacy untill the court orders him to do that.

Are you kidding me? What right does a policeman have to search your phone?
Keep giving them your phone to search, soon it'll become a normal thing.

For your info, your phone can only be searched if you're under a criminal investigation, and a judge has to sign a warrant first before you release the phone.

A phone is a personal device with all sorts of personal information not meant for a second eye.

This is a clear case of human right abuse.

Pathetic.

You don't know your right mr man.

The Police Act in Section 29, states that a police
officer ‘…may detain and search any person
whom he reasonably suspects of having in his
possession or conveying in any manner
anything which he has reason to believe to
have been stolen or otherwise unlawfully
obtained.’
Therefore, the police have the power to search,
however, it is not absolute. There has to be a
reasonable suspicion that the person has stolen
or unlawfully obtained property in his/her
possession. That is the position of the law. The
test to decide what is reasonable, is something
referred to as the ‘objective test’ i.e. whether a
reasonable man would have conducted the
search of a person in the circumstances.
Therefore, in determining whether a search
carried out in you is an unreasonable one, you
would have to look at your circumstances. For
instance, did you sufficiently identify if asked to
by the police? Did you answer any of their
questions satisfactorily? If you did, then it
might be argued that there were no reasonable
grounds for the search. If the police officer did
not have any reasonable grounds for suspicion,
then you might be able to sue for unlawful
search and harassment. An unlawful search is
also a violation of your right to privacy
guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution.

I wouldn't give a police man my wallet or grant him a search just like you said..

Its now safer to move with kpalasa nokia touch phone since IPhone, Samsung, Bb, or any other expensive device don't just attract the robbers, but also SARS.

If having with you an expensive phone makes one a yahoo yahoo to SARS, i wonder how they'll react when sighted with a laptop.

Pls stop all this nonsense. It's we the citizens that encourage the police. You may be one though. Who knows. Police have no right to your phone. From having right to yoyr phone they will graduate to another thing. . Let's try the little we can to create a civil society by asserting our rights and encouraging people who do same.
