Why Did The Emir Of Kano Go To The Airport To Welcome The President? Sometime ago, we were regaled on how it wasn't a custom for a King to leave his palace to welcome any visiting Head of State... Obi of Onitsha literally disrespected the office of president, when he came calling in Anambra State last month...some people justified it and claimed An emir is not expected to leave his palace for a visiting president, then why should an Obi do that.. Obi is Obi of Onitsha, did Buhari come to Onitsha? Did he even pay homage to the traditional ruler of Awka (Eze Uzu Awka)? Emir of Kano, his kingship covers all Kano. Buhari did not visit Onitsha. He visited Enugu, Abakaliki and Awka. There was no need for the Obi of Onitsha to receive him at the airport, neither was there any need for President Buhari to visit him in his palace. Is there any honour left of the young generation of trados? They have rubbished whatever reverence their trado stools had. From the Ooni to Oba of Benin to Emir. Even the sultan is struggling to stay more relevant and respected than the Emir of Kano. Back to the topic, I can't for the life of me fathom why the Emir did so, I think its a breach of protocol.
