Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded with the 2017 Ballon d’Or tonight in Paris, however, not everyone is convinced that he deserved the honour.

The Portugal international lead his country to victory at Euro 2016 and followed it up by lifting both the La Liga title and the Champions League for the second year on the trot with Real Madrid.

However, Ronaldo’s critics believe his biggest rival, Lionel Messi was a more deserving winner.

The individual stats certainly stack up that way, with Messi having scored 20 goals in 26 matches for club and country this year.

The Argentine put up similarly impressive numbers last year, notching 56 goals in 54 appearances.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has found the net 16 times in 22 matches this season and bagged 55 in 55 games last term
Did Ronaldo deserve to equal Messi’s record five Ballon d’Or wins for his performances in 2017?

CR7 deserved it. It's not how far but how well - a case of quantity vs quality. Last season's cumulative satistics of their individual brilliances in valuable matches, which of course led to their respective clubs trophies or lack of it thereof, showed that he got the quality while Messi got the quantity.
