bidexiii:Which begs the question why Niger is allowing US to use armed drones in their country. The fact is US drones have killed and injured more civilians than terrorists. GEJ earned my respect for kicking US out of Nigeria. They always play a double game. |

| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Ibrahimanees: 2:06pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Odunayaw:The bad news is I don't see us with ADS is the near future. We need long term planning in our military and a strict policy that a change in command does not mean those project will be abandoned. That's one of the problems with Nigeria as a whole, every administration thinks they are better than the last. If only yar'adua continues from where obj stopped, then GEJ continues from yar'adua, then PMB continues from GEJ. Just imagine! |

Ibrahimanees:The buck stops on the ministry of defence and DHQ. Heck these two sit on their thumbs. Yes Ministers come and go depending on the administration but there are posts like the perm sec that should be championing any long term plan. It also seem there isn't real synergy between the ministry & DHQ. Just look at how much power the Pentagon wields and compare Furthermore I wonder what assessments the National Security Council gives the president . |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 2:53pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Odunayaw:Nigeria is not willing to get into that kind of war with a world power. We don't have that kind of liver yet. In as much as Nigeria still plays double standard and keep both china and USA as an ally inclusive of Russia then trust me our military can't grow. You need to be ready to piss either China and Russia and make friend with USA OR kick USA and be super close to china and Russia. I prefer the latter . |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Ibrahimanees: 3:04pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Odunayaw:Well about DHQ and power, when Boko Haram was at its height, a British military expert says the government is afraid of giving DHQ more power because those coups and counter coups of past is still fresh in their minds. And when you look at it he has a point. |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 3:19pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
tdayof:ADS is for deference. Its a given we'd never blow one of these world power's jet out of the sky. We are talking of UAVs. Shoot the bloody thing down,is it our clueless journalists that will report it?Shoot, keep, use as bargaining chip. its that simple ![]() IMO I would say piss neither, Two of those three have interests in Africa and God forbid we being proxies to hurt one of those ones. Anything relating to National security shouldn't be subjected to bipartisan politik. Odikwa very risky ![]() |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 3:26pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Ibrahimanees:Hmmm, true talk. As it stands, in the play of things, the DHQ looks stronger than even the ministry. I read an article one time and it was opined that the DHQ views the ministry with contempt But I was saying the MoD itself doesn't wield as much power as its counterpart in the US. Its sad when you think of how weak the ministry is even determining foreign policy. |

Odunayaw:I was pilloried by the "high self-esteem brigade" on the other thread for making this very point. I made the example of how when the ANC came to power in 94, they found plans to re-equip the military. They didn't cancel them, but ordered a Defence Review which took into account budgetary constraints and the changed security situation. The result was that the proposed Army acquisition of tanks was shelved, with priority going to the Navy and Air Force. I suppose my sin was that I used SA as an example. |

| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 4:27pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
Odunayaw:You mean we shooting down a world power drone. I just feel DHQ will only place a phone call accross to the US embassy or Washington. But to me, it feels like US is the reason behind our rubbish purchase history. I doubt if either US OR France will want a nigeria with a sophisticated air force hence they keep telling ASO rock any move to purchase such will lead to an economic sanction. |

Foreign exchange reserves VS externally held reserves!!! I'm no fan of Socrates but you guys should first define what you're discussing. It's what happens when the state doesn't fully disclose the books to its shareholders, the citizens. |

HOW THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF LIEUTENANT GENERAL TY BURATAI AMBUSHED BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to an online publication circulating mostly on the Social Media that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has been wounded in an alleged ambush by Boko Haram terrorists at an unnamed location in the North East while on his way to pay troops courtesy. This is not true. The Chief of Army Staff has not been involved in any ambush. In any case, there was no any recently reported ambush against any of our troops anywhere let alone in the North East. The public should disregard the ambush story as it is fake. Nothing has happened to the Chief of Army Staff, he is hale and hearty and conducting his official duties diligently. The gallant troops are currently dealing decisive blows on the Boko Haram Terrorists in the Lake Chad area. Over 60 of the terrorists have either been captured or neutralised in the last 3 days. The Nigerian Army is also closing up with the political Boko Haram terrorists and their collaborators. They will soon be exposed and the law will take its course against them. We wish to use this opportunity to thank the teeming Nigerians that called and showed concern over this unfortunate fake news. We wish to assure you that no amount of mischief or campaign of calumny under any guise will distract the Chief of Army Staff from his determined efforts of leading a responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its Constitutional roles.
