NIGERIAN AIR FORCE AIR WAR COLLEGE GRADUATES SECOND SET OF PARTICIPANTS The Nigerian Air Force Air War College (NAFAWC) has graduated it's second set of participants of Air War Course on 8 December 2017 during a ceremony held on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Makurdi, Benue State. The Air War Course 2/2017 consisted of 19 senior military officers out of whom 16 were from the NAF, one from the Nigerian Army (NA) and 2 from the Nigerian Navy (NN). The Course, which was inaugurated on 16 June 2017, groomed the participants in airpower education and its application while preparing them to lead in the strategic environment with emphasis on the employment of airpower in both joint and independent operations. During the ceremony, the Chief of the Air staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Training and Operations, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Nurudeen Balogun, congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the Course. Speaking further, he urged them to bring to bear, the skills and lessons acquired during the Course with utmost sense of patriotism. The CAS disclosed that the NAF had improved, expanded and upgraded the facilities in the College to the standards obtainable in similar air war colleges worldwide to aid teaching and learning. Accordingly, “the NAF will continue to do its best within the limits of available resources to provide the needed support for realistic and result oriented training”, he said. While enumerating the numerous achievements under his administration, the CAS stated that the NAF would continue to place premium on capacity building as well as effective and efficient service delivery. He expressed his belief that the purpose for which the College was established would begin to have the desired level of impact on the Service in the very near future. Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant of the College, AVM James Baba said that the graduation of the second set of participants was an attestation to the rationale behind the establishment of the College. The Commandant added that the feedback being received by the College on the performance of its pioneer graduands was pleasing, as they were in line with the College’s set objectives. The highlight of the graduation ceremony was the conferment of the “Fellow of Air War College” on the participants by the Commandant. The participants that distinguished themselves during the Course were also given special awards, in order of merit. In that wise, Group Captain Ehimen Ejodame bagged the Best All Round Award while Group Captain Nasiru Saidu won the CAS Award with Group Captain Emeng Imoke carting away the Commandant’s Award. The attendance of Air War Course 2 by participants from the NA and the NN was in keeping with the tradition from when the NAFAWC was established towards deepening the collaboration between the 3 arms of Services in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Meanwhile, arrangements are already in top gear towards nominating participants for Air War Course 3, scheduled to commence shortly. DOPRI |

Ibrahimanees:It's very simple: foreign exchange reserves reflect what a particular country's reserve bank holds in store in "hard currency" - dollars, euro, Swiss franks, yen etc - for whatever purposes. This may be for a rainy day, fighting off currency speculators, boosting the value of the local currency, guaranteeing payments of imports in the event of sanctions/war etc. Externally held reserves may mean payment for exports to a particular country which still reside in the importer's country and are destined to wind up in the reserve bank of the exporting country. That's just how I understand it coming from a country reputed to have the most open government budget in the world and the best developed banking and accounting system in terms of reporting not only in Africa, but of all non-1st world countries. Again I say, the prior argument here depends what definitions one chooses to use! |

PRESS RELEASE THEATRE COMMANDER’S REDEPLOYMENT – A ROUTINE POSTING The attention of the Headquarters Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole has been drawn to an online article in The Nigerian Voice publication of 8 December 2017 titled “How Major General Attahiru lost his job for not supporting fraud”. Contrary to the opinion being peddled in the said article, the redeployment of Major General Ibrahim Attahiru to Army Headquarters as the Deputy Chief of Policy and Plans is a routine posting premised on needs assessment and is a normal exercise in the Nigerian Army. The Theatre Command therefore wishes to note that such insinuations being touted by a cross section of the media are far from the truth, misleading and capable of eroding the successes so far achieved in the fight against insurgency in the North East. It could also send a wrong signal and precipitate disaffection among troops of the Nigerian Army and indeed the Theatre of operation. It is imperative therefore to implore members of the public to please discountenance these erroneous impressions. Please disseminate this information to the general public through your news media. Thank you for your usual cooperation. Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu Deputy Director Public Relations Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE |

tdayof:Mines are actually easy. You dont need any thing special for that. "We have been defeated by country with out a navy, using weapons from world war 1 and boats from the time of mosses" Para phrasing the USN command during the Korean war |

bidexiii:Funny thing is that some African militaries might just buy that impressive RG-31 mortar system from the UAE, to externalise funds, when they can procure it cheaply from the source at Denel Land Systems, South Africa. Example: Senegal just placed an order for mortar bombs from Denel's factory in Saudi Arabia at 30% more than what they'd have paid buying directly from SA! I know the Saudis are paying them to fight in Yemen, but is it really worth it? |

Odunayaw:since I watched the video of that AVM about issues with NAF in which he made mention of political will to fund the defence sector. I just gave up in expecting a large and impressive military purchase . I need to know why we didn't go for the well armed type 056. Any idea? |

| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Odunayaw(m): 9:36pm On Dec 09, 2017 |
tdayof:I don't really know how it works but each service has some flexibility in procurement (which I hate). But concerning the type056 that was the navy's parade however with MOD & MOF being the bone in the throat. That order should have started a chain reaction for other purchases but we all know how well the last administration did ![]() |

tdayof:you really can't blame us as funding has been our constraint, each service has to prioritise and look after needs first. |
