What is the specs of your pc? Ram? CPU? How much free disk space do you have?

Your pc performance is dependent on this. If your cpu is a celeron or an atom or your ram is less than 3gb, install xfce or mate as window manager instead of using gnome3

That's surprising, your cpu specs should be able to handle almost anything thrown at it (unless you're trying to run a high end console emulator).
Anyway you can still try installing mate or cinnamon and use that as a window manager instead. I'm not a fan of gnome3 myself and don't use it, so I don't know about any issues with it

to install cinnamon:

sudo apt-get install cinnamon-desktop-environment

to install mate:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-mate-desktop

After installation you logout. On the logout screen there is an option to choose which window manager you want to login with

Does your windows boot with grub or windows bootloader?

If it's windows bootloader, you can simply delete those partitions and reclaim them with disk management tool in windows

Just type 'Disk Management' into start menu search you'll see the app....

Ok.. I learned the hard way. So I am using Ubuntu 17.04 zesty and will like to upgrade to 17.10 without loosing any file. How do I do it?
Secondly what are the advantages of using other Linux distribution.
I advice using 16.04 LTS.

The LTS stands for Long Term Stable and tells you that this is a distro version that has had all its bugs worked out. Furthermore, it will be supported for 5 years.
17.04 is the newest version but if you develop any problems you might not be able to find a solution quickly , if at all. I had a similar problem when I tried to install the latest version of Fedora.
Best to stick to the LTS release unless you are a Linux expert or just like wahala.

No.

No coreldraw/ photoshop.

There are alternatives but you'll have to learn them, and they may not have all the features you are used to.

There are also ways of running Windows applications on Ubuntu, but being a newbie, the whole setup might be too much for you to handle.

If you really are interested in Ubuntu, Learn how to dualboot it with your current windows. That way you can learn how to use it gradually and see if you'll like it, And also still have your current windows setup for your work.

@4llerbuntu, blackweaver, please a friend of mine is running on Windows 8 but want to port to Linux Mint, and having challenges with his HDD, can he just upgrade with his files intact? Definitely I know the programs must go.
