Hello Nairalanders








I just acquired a Landed property in Lekki area of Lagos state, it's a plot of land fenced with gate and a security house.


Do I need to get another survey or the one given to me by the formal owner is enough?
What are the other necessary documents I need to get as the new owner of the property?

Hi,

Of course,you should get another survey plan of the land in your name and you should also get the original title document on the land from the former owner

I hope you have copies of signed deeds of assignment, which is the document evidencing the transaction of the sale of land between you and the seller

yeah OP, u need to get a surveyor to change the name on the survey plan to urs...

Firstly,I hope you consulted with a competent property lawyer to guide you through the entire process of acquiring the land

Yes, you need to be given the original title document covering the land and I do not mean a family receipt. If it a registered land then you should expect to be given original C of O or document with the Governor's Consent.

However, if it an unregistered land,you should expect to be given survey plan

Yes,deed of assignment is drafted by the lawyer to be signed by both you and the seller.

Bottom line: get a lawyer, don't buy properties blindly without the help of a lawyer
