Accountabilities

Carry out mental health evaluations for psychotic patients, establishing a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Inform the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow, referring patients to other health professionals, whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition.
Provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients and other clients in need
Actively participation in psychological support to HIV/TB patient in our cohort to ensure adherence to our program
Ensure the effective implementation of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocols by identifying possible victims of SGBV, referring them to the medical team to receive the necessary treatment as well as follow up psychosocial support.
Facilitate clinical counselling supervision, in collaboration with the MHAM, to the mental health counsellors providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family and group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions.
Identify the training needs of the counsellors, staff members and other resourceful persons in the project and then in collaboration with the MHAM, plan and facilitate trainings to enhance the scope of MH activities.
Collect and compile statistical and monitoring data linked with MH activities, reporting to the MHAM and the PRM on a regular basis.
Coordinate the activities of counselling services with other relevant actors and liaise with local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and other INGOs) on mental health matters including referral services.
Inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective.
Ensure that all patient related information and files are kept confidential.

• Education: • Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
• Experience: • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist.
• Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries.

Main Purpose

Take active part in trainings, supervisions and support the mental health activities supervisor, where necessary, in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health/psychosocial issues.
Discuss difficulties and/or challenges arising from counselling sessions or from day to day activities with supervisor.
Screen all new returnees/ escapees for mental health status.
Conduct the pre and post-test counselling for HIV.
Follow up with the patient in the programme to know when to close the case`s folder.
Do the attachment evaluation between the beneficiaries and caretakers in IPD paediatric.

Dear Nigerian graduate,

When I graduated over 25 years ago, there were opportunities to begin a professional career and climb up to a leadership position in good time. In 1990, I graduated with University of Lagos with BSc. (Hons.) in Insurance and with a shiny result, it was easy to get my foot in the door with several companies, writing tests and sitting through interviews.

Today, the story is quite different.

It is different because 25 years ago, we did not have over 170million people, 60% of which are between 18 – 35 years, in the country; the naira to dollar rate was not hovering at N360 to a dollar, over 100% spike overnight; and we did not have big companies sending regret letters to hordes of staff, as they struggled to meet up with the heavy burden of an uncertain economic climate.

But while these may be negatives, there are positives too. There are spaces yet unclaimed where you can strive and become successful. There are ways you can beat the uncertainty and the system.

Let me tell you how.

If you say there are no jobs, you’re not looking in the right direction
I will speak about my industry on this topic. The insurance industry in Nigeria is one that people have tagged as likely to go extinct if we don’t get the help fast; and by help, I mean, young people with vibrant ideas and the passion for what we do in this industry – providing succour to the millions of Nigerians we cater to. We have a lot of experienced people at the senior management and even middle management levels, but sadly, not many young people like you, starting at the bottom of the ladder and working their way to the top.

The truth is, there is space at the top, but those spaces are reserved for smart and committed people who are willing to learn the nuances of the industry. And yes, you must learn, not just from what you are taught at school, but from people who are willing to share their wealth of knowledge with you. There is space in the insurance industry.

So, I repeat: if you say there are no jobs, come over to insurance and learn.

Develop your mind
In my interaction with many young people today, they are quick to whip out their phones for selfies and the likes. All great, I tell you. I like selfies too; but beyond social media, networking and keeping in touch with trends, there is also a sort of languor among the youth for developing the mind.

Mind you, developing the body is great – #fitfam goals and all. Developing your connections, wonderful; important even. But a mind that does not develop can only be sliding backwards.
I recommend you take a few minutes each day to read something, or do something that will develop your mind. Personal development is a sure way for sustainable growth.

Get busy
Yes, there seems to be a dearth of jobs that can pay you all the millions you are eager for, but why lament when you can get busy? I have met a few young people like you who have begun entrepreneurial pursuits while job hunting. Let me tell you, they learn a whole lot that will be useful, if they decide to work for someone someday.

Don’t stay idle. Get busy!

Don’t blend in
Don’t join the masses singing everlasting songs of doom about how there are no jobs. My dear, seriously, think of ways that can make you stand out.

That is what you need – don’t blend in. Stand out.

MSF OCBA Context
MSF OCBA (Spain) is currently present in four locations in North East Nigeria (Damaturu, Maidiguri, Pulka and Gwoza) with permanent projects on ground, in order to improve access to quality health care and other basic services to the conflict affected population. In addition, MSF OCBA will start the deployment of an emergency intervention team as from early 2018 to increase its capacity to responde to accute crisis in the region. MSF OCBA also has a permanent coordination base in Abuja.

Our interventions showed the need to increase our understanding of the context in the conflict area, in order to better orientate our advocacy stategy at large and to increase the level of protection for the affected population. It will require to have sufficient data and understanding in order to voice the uncovered needs we are witnessing as well as the potential abuses faced by the population.

MSF OCBA currently has a total 45 international and 500 national staff in its Nigeria mission.

Main Purpose
Contribute to the development of the advocacy plan and its implementation in the Mission, by supporting the deputy Head of Mission - Advocacy Manager in collecting data on protection and advocacy at field level, attending relevant protection, humanitarian and advocacy meetings and providing advocacy and pro-tection analysis and data to the coordination team according to MSF policies and values, in order to im-prove the humanitarian and human rights situation among population.

This position requires to spend an average of 70% of the time in field locations, mainly in Borno and Yobe state (other locations may be included based on the development of the mission), and the remaining time in Abuja.

Accountabilities

Perform data collection and research concerning local and national context, with regards to protection, advocacy and humanitarian issues, in order to provide reliable information for further decision-making.
Perform direct data collection in project sites, using direct interviews, focus group discussions and other methodology in order to provide hard data for protection and advocacy messages and strategy.
Train national staff in protection and advocacy data collection and provide support to data register team and other team members (such as community workers or mental health officers). Organize discussions, trainings, briefings, etc. about human rights and humanitarian law issues and current and future advocacy activities, in order to raise awareness of MSF staff regarding these matters.
Support the deputy HoM-advocacy manager in the analysis of the data collected, in order to better orientate the programmes and projects, to provide an optimal response to population needs.
Compile regular updates of the ongoing national activities and plans of NGO’s, UN, ICRC, donors, authorities and other actors on lobby, policy and operational plans and initiatives in order to adequate MSF ’s activities and objectives.
Participates in the elaboration and updating of the advocacy plans and strategies of the mission.
Promotes and assists in the implementation of advocacy activities locally, nationally and potentially internationally.

Requirements
• Education: • Essential degree in Law, Humanitarian affairs, Political Sciences or related university degree.
• Large professional experience in protection and advocacy fields can replace education degrees

• Experience: • Essential previous working experience of at least two years in protection and
ad-vocacy in the field.
• Essential experience with humanitarian actors.

• Languages: • Fluent level of English is essential. Hausa and Kanuri highly desirable.
