2018 year of revival for ALSCON and Ajaokuta. It's the government standing in the way of getting aluminium plant running. When NCP finish the sale the smelter comes alive. Ajaokuta is run by government so no comment. The geological data would be interesting for academics. The sector growing slowly but surely. Getting the growth rate from 2 to 8 percent big jump. |

Nigeria is wasting money on the mining sector. Mining business is no longer profitable. Congo is blessed with all the mineral resources of this world yet Congo is among the poorest countries in the world. |

edoman2016:Lol your kidding right. When did mining become unprofitable. Australia one of richest countries in world with a big mining sector. Are South African mimes unprofitable. Just so I don't reduce argument to strawmen. After getting resources the next step should be processing and making use of them. Example if you have limestone make cement. |

Blue3k:Mining of mineral resources is not that profitable. But processing of it, it's profitable. Now the question is do we have the technology and skills to process our mineral resources into finished product? Do we have the huge capital to invest into the sector? I hope you know that Ajaokuta steel in Kogi state will consume billions of dollars to resurrect it yet there is no guarantee of its sustainability and profitability. The fact is many countries of the world are blessed with various mineral resources. So supply is more than demand. That's why Congo is among the poorest countries in the world with its huge mineral resources. |

The mining sector is being revived gradually. but there are still many challenges especially as regard illegal mining. I think government should be making effort towards processing our mined minerals in other to add value, boost the economy and create jobs. |

edoman2016:I would say sure Nigeria does. Processing minerals isn't that complicated compared to making microchips. Turning gold into jewelry. If Nigeria can do cemement the rest shouldn't be too difficult. The capital is no since the budget small. The private sector will figure out what to do. I don't have comment on Ajaokuta revival it's in hands of government. The plant is dead as far as I'm concerned. I've read there plans and I'm not impressed. Congo poor because it's 3rd world unstable backwater. Their resources like Coltan have a lot of demand. They have Dutch dieses and warlords all over place. |
