7 Reasons Why Nigeria Should Have Abstained From The UN Jerusalem Vote - ETimes by IkpuMmadu: 6:35am On Dec 26, 2017
Nigeria ignored the body language of the United States of America & went ahead to vote in favour of the United Nations General Assembly resolution ES‑10/L.22, an emergency session resolution declaring the status of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital as “null and void.” There were 21 absentees & 35 abstentions. For several reasons, I believe Nigeria should have abstained:

1-SECULAR COUNTRY: Nigeria is a country where everything is seen via the lens of religion even if it makes no sense. Most Nigerians do not really understand what is going on in the Middle East, many cannot even locate Israel or Palestine on a map but due to religious sentiments, Nigerians have taken sides. At a time when the hijab issue is raging & with the president already seen by some as an Islamist, the resolution would have been the best opportunity to reaffirm Nigeria’s secular status & reduce the tension at home. Now, half of Nigeria support the president on the move & the other half are like ‘we knew it, he is like that ‘.

2-NIGERIANS IN AMERICA: President Donald Trump is known for doing exactly what he says. At a time when Nikki Haley was saying they will take a roll call of countries that voted against them, no one knows the next plan Trump has for Nigerians in his country. Omarosa are you there? The power to allow or deny entry into the USA lies with the president amongst other executive powers that Trump can use to send a devastating message to errant nations. Nigerians in America remit billions to Nigeria yearly & if Trump decides to take his aggression out on them, it will have ripple effects on our fragile economy. Do not say it is not impossible because it is possible. Trump’s executive order against specific Muslim countries is solidly in place despite global outcry. For a president who feels foreigners are taking all their jobs, what will happen when Trump decides to make life difficult for Nigerians there? Will Buhari just tell them to return home to fuel scarcity?

3-BOKO HARAM: Buhari is yet to get $1 billion to tackle Boko Haram but he went ahead to vote against an important ally. We depend on the United States for weapons, Trump just sold some attack aircraft to us for $600million. Something Obama refused to do. If USA halts all arms sales to Nigeria, we go hear am o. Those shouting China & Russia, where were they that time? Even Buhari himself was trained by the American military.

4-DEVELOPMENTAL ASSISTANCE: Many Nigerians do not realize how vulnerable & dependent we are. Many American organizations assist out a lot in Nigeria. We depend on the World Bank, IMF and other organizations heavily-funded or massively-influenced by the United States. Was it not Buhari that was telling World Bank to focus on the north? How will Nigeria be able to rebuild the North East without international help? China does not control the levers of the World Bank & other superpower agencies. World Food Programme is assisting in preventing a massive famine in northeastern Nigeria, it is greatly funded by USA. If Trump pulls all the plugs, are we sure we will just dust it off? By the way, over fifty Israeli companies operate in Nigeria in the spheres of construction, infrastructure, hi-tech, communications/ IT, agriculture & water management. In turn, there are over 5,000 Nigerian companies & organizations that operate in Israel. Is Buhari ready to receive them all if Israel kicks them out of anger?

5-CRUDE OIL PURCHASE: One of the reasons Nigeria plunged into a serious recession was because the Barack Obama administration stopped buying our crude. Trump called Buhari on his sick bed and under him, US increased its imports of Nigerian oil by 287%. If America cuts it again, are we sure we can swagger it off?

6-THE VOTE IS MEANINGLESS: United States nullified the resolution with a veto so we just managed to get ourselves into the bad book of the world’s most powerful country for nothing. The recognition of Jerusalem is still in place so what have we really achieved apart from further religious disputes in Nigeria?

What would have happened if we abstained? We would not have taken any sides, we would have maintained our relationship with America and remain a neutral arbiter in the Middle East issue. It would also influence other African nations & let the world know African nations are more interested in facing African issues back home after all no one cares about Africa in the United Nations. Smart countries only do things that will favour them & push their interests & not just follow the crowd without thinking. Those shouting China, you think the Chinese do not know what they are doing, right? African nations like Uganda, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Kenya, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Benin, Cameroon either abstained or were deliberately absent. Who send Nigeria work? Even Canada abstained. We will soon understand the repercussions. I leave you some of the 48 laws of power:

LAW 16) Use absence to increase respect and honor
LAW 19) Know who you are dealing with — do not offend the wrong person
LAW 20) Do not commit to anyone
LAW 35) Master the art of timing (Buhari did not time this well)
LAW 48) Assume formlessness!

It’s high time Nigeria govt stand up as a sovereign nation and tell USA to Bleep off with their fucking money

Are you not ashamed of yourself when America threaten your country that if Nigeria doesn’t follow her instruction to abstain from the voting process, she ll punish your country?

What is your sense of pride?

How do you feel when a USA citizen is proudly talking about his country while your own country is cowing whenever USA sneezes?

We should all be proud of our great country at this point in time for standing against USA foreign policy.

The USA citizens see our continent as a result of their government propaganda via CNN and BBC like animal farm where monkey live due to the fact that African leaders and citizens parade themselves without self respect and full patriotism.

128 have called USA fuckingg bluff and there is nothing on USA table to use against Nigeria.

Margaret Thatcher tried this Nonsense with Nigeria in early 80s when Nigeria Airway was grounded in UK. If it was now, i guess all these sissy men in this generation would have asked this strong and patriotic man called Buhari to chicken in and take a defeat. Thank God for giving us a man with national pride who told Britain that Nigeria ll give Britain 48hrs to release Nigeria Airways with 3 British Airways already grounded in Nigeria in retaliation. Nigeria gave British Embassy staff 48hrs to start packing their bags to leave Nigeria while Nigeria diplomats were asked to return home. What a National pride!

What is wrong with you guys in this generation without Shame? So you expected Nigeria to stay away from election cos USA say so. Pathetic!

In all your years of relationship with USA, tell me what have you gain as a country from that relationship in terms of social infrastructures, FDI and technology.

The little new infrastructures you see in Nigeria and other countries in Africa are made possible by China within the last five years of Africa relationship with China.

Finally, in the midst of Nigeria war against Bono Haram during Jonathan Administration, Nigeria govt did everything possible to get some military hardwares from USA with our money but what did USA do? She refused to sell to Nigeria with the help of Congress. USA even went as far blocking other countries from selling to us hence why we lost over billion of naira to South Africa when we were trying to get those military wares clandestinely. Thank God for Russia who later stepped in and help Nigeria out.

USA can’t hold us to ransom. It’s high time we throw their help to their face and tell them to Hell off.

The only economic power they have over Nigeria is our trade deal with USA which is our oil. If USA decide not to buy our oil, there are over 150 countries around the world ready to buy it. Why the stress?

If Ghana could proudly voted against USA foreign policy with the rest of the world like what we had few days ago, you guys lamenting and whining about why Nigeria shouldn’t have voted against it are nothing but freaking wimps and deserved to be castrated cos you are not real men.

128 countries stood together against tyranny and here you are telling 50 reasons why Nigeria shouldn’t have voted against USA. Bleep off Dawg.

If USA raises a resolution tomorrow that’s fair to the world, Nigeria is ready to work with USA.

Peace

You are just ranting.

Nigerian policy on Palestine has always been Neutrality.

Nigeria voted out of religious sentiment and we are going to pay heavily for it. Not just in terms of aids, but a changed US interest in Nigeria. Believe me, US might push for a regime change in 2019 as short term goal.

The long term goal might be a weakened Nigeria and the only way to do this is disintegration. If IPOB plays their card well, we might be in trouble.

JERUSALEM IS THE ETERNAL CAPITAL OF ISREAL.

It has been so for several millennia; even before the birth of the first Jihadist. It is the will of God.

God is a Friend to the friends of Isreal, and an Enemy to their enemies (Exodus 23:22). Standing against Jerusalem makes you God's enemy. CAN NIGERIA STAND BEING GOD'S ENEMY?

Nigeria policy has never been on neutrality, it has always been on a two state solution. That's the same policy of most members of the UN, even the policy of the US before Trump. Even the Pope spoke in favour of a two state solution yesterday.

"We see Jesus in the children of the Middle East who continue to suffer because of growing tensions between Israelis and Palestinians," he said. "Let us pray that the will to resume dialogue may prevail between the parties and that a negotiated solution can finally be reached, one that would allow the peaceful coexistence of two states within mutually agreed and internationally recognized borders."

Some people want to be slaves to their american masters forever sha. Especially the jobless ipob miscreants.

Some people are saying Nigeria voted out of religious sentiments, so all the other countries in the world did that also? Are you dumb?

Only a blind person can openly support the activities of Israel.

Now some air heads are afraid of the US. for they want to be their slaves forever.

People that support cownu can support anything sef, so why am i surprised.
