How A Company Put Me Through An Annoying Recruiting Process Just For Their Job by onismate: 9:33am On Dec 26, 2017
I think its high time the federal government review our labour laws to favour her citizens so that recruiters won’t waste applicants time in the name of recruitment.
Some few weeks back I applied for a job as an intern in an Outsourcing, auditing and financial firm in Lagos. Few days later after my application, I was sent a message with a link to further complete my application which I did.
Few days later another email came in with a link to complete an online assessment test, I also did. Few days later a mail was sent to me that I passed the online assessment test with score of 86%. I was happy that I was going to soon land a job. Na so I begin wait to get a call back, till 2 weeks later I was sent a message to come for an interview. After the interview, that evening I got another email to come for another interview 2 days’ time.
2 days’ time came and I went for the interview, after the interview I was told to go home and wait for their response.
5 days later I was sent a message to complete another online assessment test which I did. The result was sent to me a day later in which I scored 78. I was invited to come for an oral interview which I did. After that they said I should come the next day for written interview. Na so body begin pepper me for all their long processes. But I humble because na me dey find job.
After the written interview I didn’t hear from them again not until two weeks later they called that I should come to their office. Na so I go there. I got there and I was told they want to interview me. I began wondering because I wasn’t told I was coming for an interview, the lady who called me only told me that they would like to see me. Na so I stay cool come do the interview, waka go my house.
2 days later I was called to come for documentation that I have gotten the job. Mind you during the process of the interview we never talked anything concerning salary.
I went to the office for negotiation of salary and documentation. Na there dem tell me say my salary na N30,000, no other incentives. I was speechless, I couldn’t talk. N30,000 for someone staying in Egbeda then going to Ikeja every day, 9-5pm, sometimes even weekends. In the conditions of the job there was a place it was stated that employee would sometimes work under pressure and anytime (even Saturdays) you are called upon for some job you must be there at the office. All with N30,000. I don’t have problems with the conditions if the salary is much. They didn’t even allow me to negotiate. “This is what we can offer you,” the lady said.
Guess what I did when I was told if I would still take the job after telling me the salary and conditions. I thanked her for everything and told her I wasn’t interested. This one is slavery nah. I stood up and left, went back home and slept.

can you create a job?

you have the big mouth to say you are annoyed at an employer!

go and create jobs, then pay higher than your profits...hiss!

listen, after you slept, what did you do next? Who pays the rent where you slept?
what did you eat since then; whose paid?

young Nigerians, learn to be humble.

you just came out of nysc; you want 150k job.. How much is the firm's profit monthly? How much will you add to the firm's net profit that they will pay you 150k??

there is no magic in life.

Hope you saw where the young man mentioned concerns about transportation.
If any job in Lagos is taking 60% of salary to transportation, it's not worth it
Maybe if it were nearer, it would be okay
30k is OK for a start

OP, intern is not mostly paid na. No be entry level position job. Internship is to gain experience and fulfil some educational requirement. It is unfortunate that you live far from the place hence you would require a big sum to go to work daily if not that, I would have encouraged you to take it and work up the ladder from there if that 30k would cover to cost for now.

But yes, those companies need to respect the time, energy and resources of their interviewees and not treat them like non entities scrambling for crumbs off their big corporate tables...

Lessons should be learnt from this. There's no way I'll just go for an interview like that without knowing even an estimate of what d company is paying it's employees.

Unless you have a great job that you are doing at the moment, you just made a great mistake.

1. You applied for internship which is mostly even unpaid. You should be happy it comes with pay

2. You will gain experience with this job which will help you get a better job.

3. If you are only left with 2k every month after transport, it is better than you staying home and doing nothing.

The problem of most people is they don't want to start small in life. They want their first job to be paid in six digits, their first rented apartment to be duplex, their first automobile to be Lamborghini etc etc

There's a reason we were all born born babies.

If they put you through that much stress just for an internship position, you can imagine the hell you would go through on the job itself. Especially with that poor pay and the long distance, you for just die! cheesy

Regardless of your employment status, some jobs are just not worth it. Forget all that experience is important blah blah bullshit.

Anyone who thinks Op should have taken the job needs to have his head checked. angry

Okomu Oil did same for me four year ago. I have to travel a day before and lodge in Hotel. After the written interview some of us were invited for oral interview a month latter, no provision for lodgement we have to pay for transportation and hotel accommodation. A month after 8 of us were invited for full length picture capturing. That is the last we heard of them. We were not giving any transport or accommodation allowance. No be we they find higher position. I spent more than 40k on transportation, feeding and accommodation on the three trip. Also the risk to life can not be quantified. I agree with the OP that our labour minister should come up with modalities that guide interview

let those that quoted me go and employ a guy who gets annoyed by potential employers..

Then they will know what "sore mentality" means and who really has it.

Who says it is bad starting big?
Continue waiting for multi-national company jobs while other jobs pass you by. By the time you get that your multi-national jobs, you will be dropped because you are too old and and have no job experience.
Another 'pride before fall' mentality.

@OP, I understand your frustration. I had similar a experience few years back, after the whole stress I was offered 20k... Sincerely I felt like slapping the HR manager, but on a second thought the location wasn't far from my house and I wasn't doing anything so I accepted the offer.
Long story short, I learnt a lot from them and that was instrumental to me getting a better offer few months later. Today, I am an authority in the industry and earning very well too by God's grace.
God will give you a better offer sir. Cheers!

This is why you need to do your work as regards any job you are applying for.
I don't apply for any type of work cos of my unemployment status. I have a mindset about the types of job I can apply for and by the power of God, I believe I surely get a well paying job.

NB: before putting your application for a job

Find out what the company and how they run their organisation.
Find out their pay structure
Consider the location of the job.
Consider the shifts and off days if it's a strenuous job

You will be surprised the things a quick Google search will produce.
Also, ask on nairaland. Nobody is dragging job with you.
It will save a lot of stress if it is the type you wrote of above, GNLD or scam job

That's how my further mathematics teacher ended up as a teacher all his years. He probably wanted to start small and acquire more experience before going on to big firms. Buh he is now a teacher for life cry cry cry
Most small starters end up small earners for life Assignment: Do your research on that...
