The rivalry between wizkid and davido was at another level in 2017, with both artistes releasing chart-busting songs and videos, dominating all the major award shows, performing at the biggest shows all over the world and also making a lot of money.

In 2017 for the first time ever the BET award for Best African Act MTV EMA for Best African Act and Best Worldwide Act, MOBO award for Best African Act and Best International Act were won by two artistes, Davido and Wizkid.

Wizkid and Davido are the only Nigerian artistes to have music videos that hit 50 million youtube views in less than 9 months in the same year they were released(IF and COME CLOSER), so permit me to say that Davido and Wizkid are the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi of the music industry.

Davido started the year with his monster hit ‘IF’ produced by tekno. The song took over the radio, internet, tv, clubs, parties and everywhere you can think of. The video currently has over 55 million views on youtube alone.
He went on to release hits after hits including the critically acclaimed ‘FALL’,
PERE featuring Rae Sremmurd and Young Thug,
Tune of the moment FIA and the quite popular “LIKE THAT’
In 2017, Davido worked with a lot of artistes including Nasty C, Ayo Jay, Wale, Olamide,the late DJ Olu, Jay Sean, Kidi and others.

Both did awesome, but Davido reigns supreme CONTINENTALLY in 2017.

Songs, Albums and Collaborations

Wizkid started the year by releasing SWEET LOVE which was well received among his Core fans and afro sound lovers, he followed up with COME CLOSER featuring Drake off is very successful sounds from the other side album, the song was an instant hit all over Africa, the video currently has over 50 million views on youtube ,he went on to release his third studio album sounds from the other side featuring world superstars like drake, chris brown, ty dolla sign, major lazer, bucie and trey songz. After releasing the album, he released other songs like CRAVING, MEDICINE, which he remixed with flavour and phyno, followed by EVERYTIME featuring future and MANYA which is generating a lot of buzz right now .
He also work with Tinie tempah, Justine Skye, Wale, Jeezy and Zara Larsson to mention a few.

Major Live Performances

In 2017, Wizkid performed all over the world including the wireless festival in the UK,
his sold out concert in the iconic Royal Albert Hall, Felabration, Lugogo cricket in Kampala Uganda, One Africa Music fest in Dubai, AFRIMA, his Valentine day show in London, the famous Notting Hill Carnival, Washington DC, Rhythm Unplugged and his recent concert in Lagos Nigeria.

Davido on the other hand headlined his first major world tour tagged the 30 billion world tour with over 30 cities in Europe, Africa and USA, he also performed at the MOBO awards and the One Africa Music Fest in Dubai. back home, he was a major highlight at the Falz the experience show and he also stole the show at Wizkid’s concert as they perform together to end the rumours of the beef between them. He is billed to headline the last leg of his 30 billion world tour in lagos tonight.

Awards and Recognitions

Davido was number 1 on SA Radio in 2017,
His song FIA, peaked at #135 on itunes USA pop charts, IF was Remixed by R&B legend R Kelly.
He won the MTV EMA for Best African Act,
MOBO award for Best African Act
2 AFRIMMAs of Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year (IF).
2 NEAs for Best Single (IF) and Best Afro Pop Male Artiste. making a total of six major awards in 2017

Wizkid in 2017, had over 136 million streams on spotify alone, he was named in the Guinness World Records book 2018, nominated for grammy and soul train awards, nominated for 7 BBMAs is which he won 3, won an ASCAP, 2 iHeart radio awards, an Echo award all for his contributions to Drake’s monster hit ONE DANCE.
3 AFRIMAS for for Artiste of the year, Song of the year and Best West African Male an AFRIMMA for Best collaboration for African Bad Girl featuring Chris Brown
BET award for Best International Act: Africa,
MOBO award for Best International Act making a total of 13 major awards in 2017 Not to forget that his album sounds from the other side debuted at number 2 on billboard world album chart, and number 102 on billboard 200, number 58 in uk charts and 54 in canada.
