I think its actually called CHEMISE.... Its the corrupt form of the word we refer to as shinmi(in yoruba). Don't ask me how i know. |

It's called a slip. The one they wear as a skirt is a Half Slip not a Chemise. A Chemise is a very short Full Slip. They're both similar but different. Slips are both Half Slip and Full Slip. I'd rather you search Google for more answers |

Zacking: is it ok for Nigerian men to wear wrapper and shimi? |

I wouldn't know if it's okay. Whatever you feel like doing, go on... That's all I'll say ewa26: |

Well, the normal Nigerian might see that as gay attitude and you know the rest. These days though, the borderline for clothing are closing in. I guess soon it would be a widely accepted thing, just like when women began wearing trousers ewa26: |

Zacking: Obviously not wrapper. That’s been worn by Igbo men since the beginning of time. |

Wrappers are part of the Igbo culture. Its even an entirely African culture even though lots of men have dumped it for westernization Probz: 1 Like |

Zacking: That’s what I’m saying. I haven’t dumped it and I’m still in my 20s. 1 Like |

Zacking: Haven’t done it before but I would. That thing’s no more gender-specific than the wrapper. It’s funny seeing men wearing bifurcated trunks like trousers underneath the wrapper when it defeats the whole purpose of wearing one. Trousers are well and truly a white man’s thing. Leave ajebonisation out of traditional clothes in my opinion. Oh and as a side I even found out recently that some men in Igboland do wear it underneath so you can see there’s nothing feminine about it. https://instagram.com/p/Bb6rdypAm_z/ Even OritseFemi’s wearing it if you look and it makes perfect sense. Don’t apply oyibo standards to traditional clothes. It’s seen as women’s clothes over in the West because men don’t wear skirts or wrappers thete anymore but we do and whoever wears one can wear an underskirt underneath. There’s nothing more to be said for that one 1 Like |
