As the year 2017 ends in few days time, many people have drawn some red and green lines for 2018, some have made resolutions of what they will do and not do in the coming year. Some have even set SMART goals, some have targets for the new year while others have dreams to chase. Nigerians are not left out in preparations for the new year. Being the most hardworking people in the world most Nigerians have already started chasing their 2018 dreams even as the year is not yet come. As a matter of fact some Nigerians are also hoping that the current regime in the country under President Muhammadu Buhari will make some new policies which will make the country more inhabitable in the coming year. The people of Nigeria are also hoping that their President and his administration will erase some policies/attitudes that shaped the outgoing year 2017 in bad form. Some of the attitudes that most Nigerians will hope that President Buhari administration stops this year include but not limited to the following: 1.Medical Tourism. This subject matter was a great issue of concern to most Nigerians in 2017 especially after President Buhari spent over a total of 150 in London for medical treatment. The country was in great uncertainty. People made a lot of baseless speculations, some even went as far as saying that the President was dead. This did not only made Nigeria to be in autopilot mode, the country was at a brink of collapse at that time. We are not saying that going abroad for medical treatment is bad, but we are asking "What happens to the Medicare system in the country? What happens to the over 50 million poor Nigerians who cannot afford three square meals a day let alone seeking Medicare abroad? What happened to the billions budget for state house clinic and other major hospitals?". We could go on and on without elapsing the questions but what we only want to say is that we don't want to see that kind of executive crises in 2018 . 2. Lopsided appointments. One of the major plus for the critics of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration is the fact that the President keeps proving them right through his lopsided appointments. Let us state here that Nigeria is a multi ethnic country and as such, appointments into key positions in the country must reflect the multi-ethnic nature of the country. So far the President has not done so well in this regard and this must not be carried over to 2018. 3. Ignoring youths in appointments. No doubts that the strength of the world is in the youths, this has been proven in France, Austria and most recently in Liberia. The reverse is the case in Nigeria as over 90% of executive positions in Nigeria are occupied by people above the age of 50. This now forces one to ask if Nigeria is going backward or forward, where is the future of the country? when will new ideas be brought to fore bearing in the country? President Buhari himself has not made up to five youth appointments since he assumed office and this trend should stop in 2017. In 2018, we want to see a Nigeria that takes pride in her youths, a Nigeria that has youth representation in key positions, a Nigeria where the communication minister is a youth that has a Facebook page. All these are possible if the President can kill his affinity for appointing old men. 4. Ignoring Corrupt own party men and friends. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is one that prides itself as being intolerant to corruption, corrupt practices and corrupt people. This was seen in the fight against corruption mantra in which the administration rode on to win the 2015 presidential election. They have also tried to fight the corrupt opposition to shreds although no top profile politician has been tried and convicted in the fight. But what Nigerians really want to see in 2018 is a holistic fight against corruption. A fight against corruption that will also affect the corrupt PDP politicians that have gone to seek refuge in APC. A fight that will also probe APC politicians, president's appointees, presidents friends, family members, etc. We want to see a complete new era in the fight against corruption. 5. Ignoring the tracking of Fuel movements. One of the greatest regrets of the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in 2017 is perhaps the fuel scarcity that bedeviled the country in the tail end of the year. The scarcity caused hike in transport fees and grounded the country in the Yuletide season. There was long queues and vigils in fuel stations across the country, there was also cases of increase in the price of goods and in the country. While the presidency blamed the scarcity on greedy marketers who hoarded petroleum products with the intention of price increase, it is note worthy that Presidency through the ministry of Petroleum should be able to monitor and track fuel movements and know who is hoarding the product or not but they fail to do their work hence the fuel scarcity. We don't want to see any fuel scarcity in 2018, enough is enough for Nigeria and fuel scarcity. Other things. The items in the above list are just a few of what Nigerians thing that their President should not do in the coming year 2018. Nigerians reading this post can add their own list of what president should stop in 2017 in the comment section. Happy and successful new year in advance to everyone.
