You are right about the fact that as you go further inland, the price per liter of petroleum products (not just petrol) will go up in a fully deregulated regime, however his suggestion (to open and enable the the eastern seaports from warri to calabar) severly mitigates the price creep.
I hope this logic is digestible for you.
Not seriously considering his arguments and just lampooning him, is just as severly obtuse.
Thats market 4 you, where I live, every petrol station have thier own price.so I chose where to go, Petrol is cheaper in London than North of England.

fine.

if Nigerians can handle the increase, no problem.

but note that the landing cost of N171 is for PMS to land in LAGOS...

the further inland you go, the more expensive it gets & less demand for the product, so marketers rather sell were they can make quick returns with little stress & risks...

& that is one area of subsidy Nigerians overlook & which is why subsidy will ALWAYS exist in one form or another...

for instance, with total deregulation, fuel (as long as it is imported) can be sold for N175 in Lagos as transport costs will be drastically reduced, the further inland the commodity moves, be it by road, rail or pipelines, the more expensive it gets. no two states will sell at same price... (well, 80% won't anyway).

so fuel would sell for like N190 in Ekiti, N230 in Abuja, N245 in Enugu, N300 in KD & N350 in Sokoto... & do you think the North will agree to that?
but diesel is fully deregulated and it's almost same price nationwide and funny enough diesel has never sold 300 naira before

Whether legal or not, something just has to be done to check the current hardship being experienced by the citizens over availability of the product.

Yesterday was one of my angriest days as a Nigerian.

Left home as early as 10am to queue up at an NNPC station. To my chagrin, it appeared I was moving just about a few inches forward per hour on the queue. I was literally making no progress at all and time was approaching 5pm.

Left where I was and drove towards the gate, and there, what I saw made me wonder if there's really hope for this nation. Every official stationed at the gate to ensure things are done rightly were the very people making sure NOTHING is done rightly! From Road Safety, to Police, to the the station employees, EVERYONE was taking bribes and allowing folks jump and shunt the queue! From what I saw, there was absolutely no way I'd get to get in if I didn't bribe my way through!

Yet we open our loud mouths to complain about government corruption!

I made up my mind I wasn't gonna be involved in any of that. Made a u-turn and drove to another station nearby, OFICON, whom I heard were selling at the official rate.

Now, I joined the queue and hoped that time, i'd get my juice and get the hell out of there, get home and get some rest so I'd have sufficient energy to groove later in the club.

Now, Guess why the guys were selling at official rate: DPR official were in the premises.

Guess how much fuel they were dispensing to motorists: 10L max!

Eventually, DPR left and to my utmost surprise, these guys wound back their meters to 230naira per litre!! Guess what more, you could, this time, buy a full tank if you please!

Now, it was about 7:15pm!!!

With so much pain and anger in my mind, i drove in and filled my tank, and swore I'd NEVER patronise that station ever again.

This is probably the same sadenning experience millions of Nigerians go through daily. It is depressing to be honest.

This subsidy nonsense was one of the major undoings of the Jonathan's regime and if Buhari isn't careful, it might consume him as well.

At this stage in our National experience, we shouldn't be dealing with an issue such as this for God's sake. It is not right!
As much as you helped bring in this government, I really sympathise with you. I equally spent over 10 hours on a queue last Sunday trying to get 15L of PMS to power the house; so I understand how frustrating it is, especially with the touts and security men who try making money off those who want to purchase the commodity (one was even puffing weed there in the station angry ). I did not get at that station so I had to go to another where I paid more.

The subsidy issue will also consume Buhari - there's no way it won't.

I suspected that too.

His reaction proved that he is a Yoruba guy who never wants to see the ports working.

I even used meat & graduate earnings to make it clear to him and yet, he still stood by his useless point.

This is why I believe in disintegration.

even when PMS berths at other seaports, the fact remains, the further inland you go, the more expensive PMS gets QED...

so I really don't know what you chaps are hammering on.

it will be cheaper in some places, more expensive in others. simple.

if you feel the economy can withstand the blow of a further increase, that's your position & it is allowed, some others feel a subsidy, with proper checks can be a temporary measure until our local refining capacity is up to par...

1. how many people use diesel? is it as widely used as PMS?

2. even in states, the price varies, you get some places at N190, some N220... & up North, it goes as much as N250...

so, what exactly is your point?

So funny with your lies

1) Northerners have a lot of food trucks that brings food to the South.

2) Diesel don't so cost much in the North as compared to the South. If you doubt me, go to Sokoto and get a pics of diesel price on a fuel pump.

How do I know all these, because I have lived in the North not to long ago.

What lie was that?
pmb feigned ignorance of fuel subsidy...

APC kicked against a fuel price increase/partial deregulation

pmb promised not to increase fuel prices in January 2016, by April 2016, fuel price shot up by 57%...

I trust you are savvy enough to get more 'facts'...

I did not REPEAT did not dispute this fact, and my understanding of the fellow whose post, you responded to, is that he was not disputing this fact.
My claim is that opening the eastern ports, will go a long way to minimize, mitigate, attenuate, reduce (in no place did I say or infere that It would eliminate) the price disparity in the cost of petroleum products, between the coast and the inland regions.
This logic is simple, from the way you speak /write I imagine you are educated enough to absorb it.
We do not have to oppose each other senselesly.
Overall I (and the other fella I believe ) am saying deregulate, but do the work to minimise the price disparity, that will result, it is doable the good solutions are not always the easy solutions.
If you are honest with yourself, and I want to believe that you are, you will agree with me that even when the refineries on the coastal regions resume or begin production (dangote), and we somehow have to political will to deregulate then, this geographical price disparity issue will still be in play.

He is not honest in his arguments, I had hoped he was but I see politics, very likely the "protect buhari by all means" kind.
Every argument no matter how logical, must pass through the "how does this favor buhari" filter not how it favours Nigeria.

These guys in the Senate are confusionists, always pretending they do not know what is going on.

They are actually very childish and makes the Senate look like a useless organ of government.

With the rise in crude prices, FG has either of two options - increase the price of PMS or start to apply some subsidies!

Which of the two would our Senate advise?

Well, since most of them belong to 'opposition' I guess they want to push PMB to increase PMS price.

Senate of small minds! Always appealing to the gullibility of the ignorant populace. You will keep losing!

its a different seenerio, the difference in cost btw London and North of England has nothing to do with distance rather Demand and supply. The Nearest Seaport to London is Tilbury and thats in Essex.andits till costlier there than London.
