Delta North PDP Stakeholders Oppose Uduaghan’s 2nd Term Bid
Written by Kola Niyi-Eke, Asaba
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 21:10

The Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders in Delta North have opposed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s second tenure.

This decision was taken after an enlarged meeting of Anioma people after taking what was described as a ‘critical look’ at events in the last few years in the state.

A communiqué made available to LEADERSHIP in Asaba, declared that "the people of Anioma ethnic nationality under the auspices of the PDP Delta North stakeholders forum, firmly support the appointment of Professor Attahiru Mohammed Jega as INEC chairman, in line with his strong desire to conduct credible free and fair elections in 2011.

“The forum remains committed to the Anioma ethnic nationality producing the governor in 2015.

“Anioma people shall no longer tolerate the abject poverty and neglect suffered in the hands of the current regime,” it added.

It stated that there were lack of basic infrastructure in the state capital, Asaba, and in other major towns, such as Ogwashi-Uku, Isele-Uku, Agbor, Kwale and Obiarukwu.

The communiqué signed by the leaders of the 10 districts in the area, further stated that Uduaghan's government had nothing to show for the N650 billion it received from the federation account since May 29,2007.

"Anioma people, in this regard, pass a vote of no confidence on the governor and disassociate ourselves from his illusionary and greedy second term bid.”

They resolved that Barrister Ovie Omo-Agege was their choice for the governorship election in 2011. They added that Anioma people would support President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2011 presidential election.

They also commended Chief Edwin Clark for his resilience and fight for an egalitarian society.

They deserve it.

Ovie Omo-Agege
Definitely not Igbo. Prolly a Benin migrant to Delta Igbo territory
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by udezue(m): 2:56am On Jul 15, 2010
They deserve it as long as the candidate has he is good. Igbos of Delta need to show their relevance.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by EzeUche(m): 3:00am On Jul 15, 2010
Why not give them their own state?
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by udezue(m): 3:12am On Jul 15, 2010
Mr. Fire, my family got Efik-Ibibio name. Does that automatically make them non Igbo? Please if Ovie is identified as Anioma by Anioma people then he is Igbo and good enough to represent them. No Benin migrant to any Igbo territory can claim non Igbo or pure Bini coz his family is filled with Igbo blood just an Archibong, Ofong from Abiriba or Ajali can't claim pure Ibibio after hundreds or even thousands of years in the Igbo community, mixing, marrying and having offsprings. The last name is just an indication that the person has some non-Igbo roots but he is still a bonafide Igbo and deserves equal respect with da rest of em Chiokike, Mgbokwa, Okolo, Obukwelu, Odili, Ezuma, etc.

Is Ovie Omo-Agege Ibo?Ovie is the son(I think)of the first chief judge of Delta State;James Omo-Agege
The Omo-Ageges are as URHOBO as Urhobo can be.I think it's more important to talk about the suitability of whoever is being canvassed and not neccesarily where he/she comes from.
The Delta Ibos had an opportunity back then when Peter Okacha of the AC had his case for wrongful exclusion at the tribunal against INEC
I recall,EK Clark, called Arthur Okowa(who actually won the PDP primaries, but was shoved aside by Ibori and who eventually became SSG and is now aiming at a seat in the senate) to filehis case at the tribunal that they would back him up and bring enough evidence at the tribunal to have the election annuled and a new one ordered or he would be declared the valid PDP candidate and returned as governor ala Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers,he chickened/sold out for a dish of porridge

It is widely known in Delta state that Arthur Okowa is the one politician from Delta North that enjoys the biggest grassroots support across the three senatorial zones of the state(Peter Okocha is actually WAYYYY behind in this regard),but since he sold out and agreed to become state chairman of Uduaghan campaian organisation in 07(a very curious decision) and later SSG,he short-sold himself.
Uduaghan, under the counse of Ibori ensured Okowa never ran any major financial deals,no contracts nada, just so he wont be able to amass wealth in case he had any state house ambitions in 2010.This is the reason he is now going to the senate

Those elders are stupid. They should have kept shut till the last minute. If uduaghan get re-elected, i'm sure he won't spend a kobo on delta north. Ovwie Omo-agege is urhobo
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by igboboy1(m): 9:16am On Jul 15, 2010

Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by igboboy1(m): 9:18am On Jul 15, 2010
can u people even read? The aniomas said they want to an igbo governor come 2015. They said they are supporting the ovie dude for 2011 doesnt mean ovie is igbo (and ovie aint igbo this i know for sure)
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by MrFire: 2:35pm On Jul 15, 2010
You see my Igbo brothers are not selfish. They fight for Omo Agege a non-Igbo for the state governor post. That is the true Igbo spirit as has also been shown by the SE govs in banning themselves from contesting the presidency (against Jonathan). The SS is our ''junior brother'' and we must protect them as would any good elder.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by udezue(m): 2:41pm On Jul 15, 2010
If Ovie is not Igbo then that's cool. He doesn't have to be for Anioma to support him.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by Beaf: 3:24pm On Jul 15, 2010
I don't see why the dust over Omo-Agege. The Igbo's are simply bargaining with the Urhobo, which is natural.
There are quite a few ethnic groups in Delta state, with the Ijaw, Igbo (aside from Asaba) and Isoko areas being a bit more deprived than the Warri - Sapele - Ughelli axis.
We have had an Urhobo governor and and Itsekiri governor, it should go to the Igbo or Ijaw in 2015; I hail Delta state as the most egalitarian in the country.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by 9ja4eva: 3:44pm On Jul 15, 2010
We have credible Anioma people.I just don't know why they are not ready to come forward.
We need someone for 2011 from Anioma.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by obiem(m): 4:19pm On Jul 15, 2010
Any true Anioma indigene knows that Ovie Omo-Agege is not an anioma name, sounds to me like Urhobo. Anioma people have a long wait to have a true son of theirs as governor and 2011 is definitely too early going by the agressive campaign embarked by the incumbent(Uduaghan). The wait may be compared to that of the african americans before Obama came.
Last week, Anioma elders led by the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Chike Edozien were in the state house to see President GEJ over the possibility of the creation of Anioma state. That to me is more realistic that struggling to produce a governor which may never be in the near future bearing in mind d stronghold the Urhobos and Itshekiris have vis a vis dat of the Igbo in delta state.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by ProAnti: 4:52pm On Jul 15, 2010
Ovie Omo-Agege is one of Ibori's boy. He is a former commissioner and a close ally of Uduaghan/Ibori.
During the 2007 primaries he contested ( or wanted to constest) against Uduaghan ans was compensated with the position of the Delta SSG for a few months. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa did the same thing and was also compensated. He is now turning against Uduaghan because the EFCC and the FG have supposedly rendered Ibori powerless.

The Anioma people should stop deceiving themselves as Omo-Agege, if he wins, will definitely go for a second term thereby elongating the tenure of delta central senatorial district.
The best and wise thing to do is to support Uduaghan or any other Delta South candidate so that they can have a Delta North governor come 2015.

The Urhobos of Delta State are like the Hausa/Fulani of Nigeria. They believe leadership is their birthright because of their population.

That is why there needs to be an Anioma State.
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by monkeyleg: 10:50pm On Jul 16, 2010
@EzeUche,

You have said it well. The wicked things Ibori and his brother have done to Delta North, can not even be imagined.

Ovie is an Urhobo boy, one of Ibori's cronies. Was denied the opportunity to contest the primaries, and promised SSG. In my opinion, neither Ovie or Udu should be supported. There are a lot of good people from delta north who will serve the state well. Not that rubbish Udu, despite chopping #650n still looks like a cheap tramp.

@Beaf,

Stop misleading people with the topic of the thread.

How? Do you think it is impossible? Everything springs from the mindset.
There has always been very tight cooperation between Anioma and Urhobo (I guess they are culturally closer than other groups), such that the alliance has even been used against both Anioma and Urhobo without fultering.
The Itsekiri population of Delta state is about 300, 000, yet they have the governor. Anioma people are about a million strong, so why not?
Re: Igbo Gov For Delta State? by AndreUweh(m): 11:06pm On Jul 16, 2010
Ndigbo in Delta state do not oly deserve a state of their own, but also a shot at the gubernatorial position. For that to be achieved, there is the need for unity amongst all the Igbo groups in Delta state. It does not matter if you are IkaIgbo or Ndokwa. What matters is the need to see each or other as Igbo brothers and sisters, to support one another and be there for each other.
The idea of one claiming Ika and not Igbo will make this lofty idea become a mirage.

The Igbo need to engage fully now, not tommorow. They are a major ethnic group in Delta state; what do you want Isoko's to say (by the way, we're grooming our Obama wink)?

Spot on. With their 9 LGA's they should be a force to reckon with in Delta state. The positions that have eluded them till date in Delta state is as a result of disunity within the Igbo groups.

The Igbo in Delta state lack the political power in Delta state not because the Urhobo, Ijaw or Itsekiri is stopping them but because they lack unity. When a people foolishly walk around claiming their villqes as their ethnicity who will take em seriously and how far will go with it?

Listen guys, the problem has always been picking a credible candidate from Delta North. We thought we had a fighter in Peter, only to hear that he is probably on his way back to pdp.

I dont think the dis-unity is as bad as you guys make it. We all share a common problem, that is Delta North has been neglected for so long, and like you guys say, there are enough of us to pose a significant challenge for the top job.

We need to select for ourselves a credible leader.

Was Ibru a credible leader before he was chosen by his people. How about Ibori and Uduaghan?. For Ndigbo in Delta state, the in thing is unity.
