Happy New year Czar. Please how far with your CPA conversion? Have you finally been inducted? I decided to do mine while still in Naija and it's not been easy. Sent my cheque for the tax and law course since 4 weeks but no feedback yet from Lillian. Hope you have gotten a better job. This year abundance will multiply in your domot. Keep on keeping on.

I was in their office at Toronto in December and was told they have a lot of requests. That i will hear from them in January. My cheque that was sent from US took them 3 weeks to be acknowledged. I think its the traffic. Do you have a tracking number for your cheque? I also think they aint organised. They are supposed to give applicants numbers to quote on their documents so that they can match the documents like WES does. At some point they told me they hadn't received some documents i sent to them. I had to provide evidence before they could acknowledge receipt.

My dear i am still hopeful. I know it will happen soon though. Amen to your prayers.

Bros e don do. You are a moderator. Please don't go pedestrian. You can't be attacking people like this. You have made your point and it's noted. Let's not derail the thread with this argument.

This is not an attack on anybody here and I'm surprised that you called it such.

Contact me or pm me is another way of asking for contact details, this individual did not volunteer to contact him, he requested for it several times. so its different from when somebody send you a pm without you asking for it.

Why don't you ask seun to amend that rule to state : " DO NOT ASK OTHER NAIRALANDERS TO CONTACT YOU"?
That way no one will unknowingly violate that rule.

Ok..noted!

But please, you guys should step up o

Its really cumbersome having to refresh your browser every 5mins or bookmarking your last read page to catch up on things here..

Truth is, you guys have added value, but you can do better *thumbs up*

Nairaland used to have a notification function but I think it was removed as people complained about receiving too many emails notifications

I've been in Canada since September. And the picture I sent was also taken in Canada. I took it at a staples store here in bc and paid for express delivery via Canada post to avoid delays.. The delay is so annoying. Is it advisable I contact Them?
It doesn't hurt to call.

I think it's because, like Imperial College London, UBC gives most of the available spots to the highest bidder (the Asians). They pay the huge international student fees without seeking scholarships (they value education that much, and at any cost - ask the ivy leagues) or will often have funding from national sources (they are not a financial burden), are likely to have high GPAs, and are likely to have better career/job prospects nationally or internationally (in order to access the coveted Asian market, every serious organization needs Asians on their team). All of these contribute to the ranking of both schools at the top, hence, they continue to dole out spots to them in a win-win relationship. As an international student (from sub-Saharan Africa of all regions), you are likely to be lagging behind in these three areas, and they might not see you as a potentially beneficial alumni (in terms of your career/job prospects)!

This is my opinion though!

einsteino:

we all know schools are ranked, and some schools have better faculties than others. what do you think makes UBC a harder school to land an admission? I didnt mean to look down on MUN, I was only using it to explain a point, heck i evn would have studied at MUN if i got my visa.. in QS world ranking and other rankings, MUN stands about 400 positions below U of A. not saying their degree is weaker or that it has any impact on career/job prospects. But students, and even lecturers take these things into consideration when settling for a school, especially wrt Research capabilities.

anyways, if you wish you can even say U.I or UNN is aii cos its programmes are accredited, or that harvard is just a school.. i dont understand how you didnt see that "low rate" in the context i used it, had to do with admission & acceptance rate..

Yes its based on contributions and content when those contributions are made openly here and not in private, how will you have content if its not available here or anywhere online?

Its not about people sending pm to each other, the issue here is about an individual who constantly asking people to pm him for an answer to a question asked openly here. If you can't give that answer in here then there is something fishy about your intention.

How will i ban people for sending pm? Has anybody here complained that i banned him/her for sending pm?
Without knowing the details, I am not sure you want to police adults. People have choices; so allow them to make decisions. Encourage contributors to be transparent instead. If someone requests a PM, the other individual still needs to make that judgement to send the PM/continue the conversation.

Sure, however, that's not mutually exclusive to the point I made above.

I obviously cannot tell you how to moderate; I am only trying to provide a different perspective. There is always room for improvement.

Thanks for this response. So you mean even to fix ordinary broken pipe or lay out a lawn sprinkler will need certificates? grin this kind oyibo land.

Anyways, thanks for the response. I have started compiling a list of handy skills that can fetch cash after normal 'work' closes.

Please ladies, can you tell us how often you make your hair? How much? Can you tell us some other things you sometimes have to spend money on especially when it relates to hiring people?

I really want to offer my own services even if during spare time.

I may even own an establishment which may get jobs and sublet. I just hope.

I am really interested in this topic. Landed seniors, kindly enlighten us more on trades that can be learned in Nigeria that requires no certification to practice in Canada. How is owambe ( parties) in Canada as compared to Nigeria and Nigerians in UK? Would fashion designing (sewing) be a good business. Can I get to sew within the four corners of my house while I also engage in a white collar job? What other side business can one do that isn't regulated? Thanks

I just sent you a text. Kindly reply telling me it's DatechMan
DatechMan:
I am beginning to enjoy this thread.
All the information being passed on here are really invaluable.
I am also considering the Fall '18 admission . My understanding is that MSc. being thesis based and usually funded is more competitive. M.Eng. which is course-based is usually self-funded. I have also found that the M.Eng programme is usually slightly more expensive than the MSc. programme.
I have never really given M.Eng a real thought before now, since I was applying as an international student. Now that I am a Canadian PR, I am seeming to favor it. Seniors in the house, please I need your input.
I have a 4.02/5.0 from a Federal Uni. I want to weigh my chances before applying. This one that I hear that UBC is bouncing 1st class guys.
I was in the telecom industry in Naija for about 4 years. I am looking to go for M Eng. or MSc. in Renewable Energy or related field. I am especially interested in a school with good coop/ internship opportunity.

Let's rub mind together abeg. This Canadian hustle shall end in praise.

Hello guys,

I see quite a lot of us are going to Cana in order to get white colar jobs.

Hardly anyone here talking about being a skilled professional in one niche or another.

Nobody talking about opening a salon, a workshop, a fashion house to sew aso ebis which I'm sure many of us will still want to rock at events, tech outlet, e.t.c.

Is it that we all want to be employees, or is it more expensive to own your own business?

Can we look at this angle and see if there are hot skills some of us can learn while awaiting ITA and PPR?

Welding, plumbing, barbing, sewing, hair dressing, gardening, wood work?

Aren't these good viable options?

You can as well browse through schools in canada and their respective tuitions. Note that the MEng program is a little expensive than the MASc

Ballerz:

I was not going to respond but I will not let anyone spoil my reputation.

First of all, I think either yourself or Seun Osewa is very unserious. Great Ife people apply better cognitive reasoning to situations. I am shocked!!
So let me clarify, and this is what happens when people fail to apply common sense to the most basic things. Did you expect I ask people to send their Driving Letter and copy of license to a public forum, then I help them to forward to FRSC from there?

I cannot count how many people sent me their letters and copy of license and I helped in the little way I can, to ensure my ex-colleague gets the letter out in good time. Or did anyone complain I collected a fee, rather I used my own resources to appreciate the FRSC team.
I am not the kind of person that sits behind faceless handle and convulse shit. The people I have interacted with here, know me, my real name and where I work. So Mr. Justwise, you need to get your acts together. Thus, the ban is very good. And it is because of this kind of ill-thoughts actions NL is still at the stage where it is, the forum has failed to develop like the country called Nigeria.

PS, Osewa was not paying me, rather on the flip side, the users here spend their time and data to contribute to forum. People visit here to assist others, because Together Everyone Achieves More. It is a T.E.A.M. effort. This is what other countries have mastered. See how Brampton has bn taken over by Indians. Markam and North York by the Chinese. I am yet to see where Nigerians and Africans are taking over.

Please apply for Next Ban.

I am not so sure about that highest bidder part as UBC is a public University, unlike Harvard and in my experience canadian public univeristies arent as bothered about making money as those in the UK. like i said earlier, i personally know of some canadian unis dept that dont allow you self fund a thesis based masters. So the highest bidder part is unlikely.

However, I agree with your other points. Actually, they go hand in hand, one of the things that makes a university have a great appeal to students and make its admission highly competitive is its ranking. students and lecturers with an excellent academic&research history, would start out seeking for admission/tenure into high ranking schools first before considering lower ranked schools, all things being equal.

Glad to have you here @vcole! Wow! You have found schools already! I love your drive o!

I honestly do not like the sound of the 3-hours for 3-days in a week preschool. My toddler is already used to 7:30am-4pm schedule. Plus, I won't be able to achieve much in the short time: can't go to work & I have not researched schools yet to know what it will be like.

I am an IT professional. I am either going to continue my business online or get some degree/diploma. I have an IT Masters degree from the UK and I wonder if that would fetch me employment in Canada.

Well, I will say that I need some guidance as to which area of IT to focus on in Canada.

I currently run a consultancy that designs websites and provide digital marketing services in Lagos.

Certifications: ITIL, MCSA, OCA (Oracle).

Qualifications: BSc Computer Science, MSc Web Technologies and Security. Haven’t used my ITSec though.

Hello All,
Happy New Year.
Please permit me to ask this question here because I know I'll get practical answers here.

My mum is traveling to Toronto this month and I want to buy her flight ticket.
1. How can I get a cheap but reasonable flight for her? Contact a travel agent or book it myself on any airline website especially since it will involve connecting flights? If travel agent, which one should I use?

2. Her return date is unknown for now. Can I book an open return? or must I have to put a date even when it is not sure yet?

3. what of cold? I heard whatever winter clothes you buy here will be useless when you land at the airport over there. How should we do this?

Thank you all.
