Good day everyone, I wish to seek counsel in this forum particularly on buying an old or suppose used domain name.

Is it safe to go for them provided they meet your choice of domain name, are there possible challenges that could emanate as a result in the future? Besides I will like to know the advantage of .com over .net, .ng, .org etc.

There are various reasons people buy domains though not much.


Are you buying it for your business? or just for reselling?

Dot coms beat anything but note the extension has a lot to do with the business behind it as an organization will prefer a dot org to a dot com.
A dot ng or us or ch signifies geographical zones. Such domains with such extension are for the various countries though as the internet is, could be still located anywhere in the world only if the person knows about it or comes through it from a search engine. But it's mainly geographical.

If you're buying for your business and there's an already existing domain for the business, why not? You could contact the owner or search through the various domain marketplaces for it.

There are experts on this on here. I believe they'll talk with you. Abandon this ship (thread) and search out threads where domaining is extensively spoken on and ask more questions there.

Thank you very much brother, I have been an existing blogger for over one year and wants to acquire another domain for a desired niche. The web company offered some old domains which in my opinion were abandoned by suspected but unsuccessful bloggers while they match my search. Was afraid if it could affect me in any way maybe having being blacklisted by Google or otherwise.

The .net, co, org, ng was born out of my curiosity following an offline claim that they have a better SEO, Google indexing and ranking ahead of .com
