Rubbiish: We did on mine. By doing this I have a true shared wall with my neighbor even though I paid for it. You could step slightly away from the beacon that way the wall is only owned by you and you have control over it. |

EgunMogaji:Thank u sir I actually asked because i experienced something similar two years back We wanted to cover the beacons with d fence, so no one gets cheated, but my lawyer insisted covering d beacons will make it invincible, thereby making it difficult to resolve issues during dispute. Though we finally covered d beacons, but up till now i m still confuse as to which is better & appropriate covering it or building within it... |

Rubbiish: He has to align it with the beacon, better still the block should be able to rest on the beacon as I presume the size of the beacon should be a 6" or 9" block replica in part |

Flaghouse1:If an argument should arise in d future & d beacons are covered with fence, Won't that affect locating d beacons sir? |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Flaghouse1: 11:53pm On Jan 05, 2018 |
Rubbiish: For the sake of clarity and anticipated future brouhaha,it will be advisable for him to lay the blocks close to the beacon showing the beacon coordinates in order to put to rest any future dispute that may arise |

Flaghouse1: This is very good advice. Just align the block work to expose the beacon on the outside of the fence. So from the outside the beacon is there for all to see (First photo) and from the inside the fence is perfect (second photo). This is how it is done.

diordaves: This is the correct practice. Another thing I remember to do is place a plastic bag or wood on the beacons as we lay the blocks. This will protect the beacon numbers from being smeared with cement motar. Its important that the original beacon numbers are showing after the fencing. I never leave an inch for the neighbours. In one of the locations I built a house, fencing costs are shared at the walls you share with your neighbours. The neighbour refunded me some money after I met him and insisted on a refund. But in other locations, they tell you to bear the cost alone, after all, its you who needs a fence. 3 Likes |

spyder880: Very true with cost sharing if the area is developed and you are not the first to erect. With my last project, my neighbour did four courses of the right side of the fence and asked me to continue which I did to the required height. On the left side of the fence, my neighbour did the whole fence and asked me to do razor wire. On the back of the fence, the neighbour no send. Very uncooperative, so I did the whole lot and razor wire. 1 Like |

spyder880: Oga Syder, those your neighbors are good people. Most of my neighbors purposely ignored the fence and went ahead to erect foundations to secure their lands. I had no choice other than to fence my plots myself. Until now were I see shared cost Thanks guys for bringing up this beacon and fence issue because I fenced mine based on the markings from my surveyor because i just could not wait for my beacon. But my beacon is in place now. |

ice4u999: The same is true for me, no shared cost at all. |

Good evening house. Was quoted the following size and labour cost for a septic tank and soak-away for a 4 flats building: Septic tank: 10ft (wide) x 10ft (long) x 14ft (deep). Soak-away: 7ft (wide) x 7ft (long) x 7ft (deep). Labour cost only: N150K. This I believe is way to high, how low should I negotiate it please? Thank you. Site is at Sango-Ota (Ogun State). |

Something that I just discovered on my site is leading me to make a few recommendations to others. I would recommend that the Architect who drew your plan be onsite at a few key steps, at the bare minimum. The entrance to my house and the view into the courtyard are key important feature to me. I worked with Darenyx diligently on creating the plan but my builder has managed to screw it up. How I’ve missed this over the time saddens me. I of course have to correct it Pic1 Picture from plan I purchased. Pic2 Architecture plan. Pic3 What builder did.

EgunMogaji: The thing dey pain person. They changed so many things without recourse. A nairaland changed my sun roof to complete covered roof without telling me. This nairalander began the build from inception. In fact he even lied to me he maintained the plan as I wanted it. Only to find out he changed many things. I fired him long time ago. I couldn't even revert back to my original plan. The deed already been done before I knew about the changes he made. |

FastShipping: I’m seriously disappointed in myself though because I missed it. And such a dear section to me too. This is why I’m recommending a second eye to help oversee stuff. |

EgunMogaji: I feel your pain sir. Several, albeit minor (easily rectifiable) mistakes were made by my builder as well. You wonder whether they are blind or something; how difficult can it be to look at the plan in front of you and build as per what is on the plan!!! |

rabcnesbit: You are not answering the question. Is the N150k for digging only ? If it is that is too much. I just done mine which is 10x10and 12ft deep. And 6x6ft. I paid N50k for it in Abeokuta just because of hard Land that have Rock . Normally it should cost me N35k but because of the rock l have to paid 15k more. Yours should not be more than 60k due to the size. 1 Like |

[quote author=rabcnesbit post=63928349]Question: why do kitchens and bathrooms/toilets get tiled from floor to ceiling all four walls in Nigeria? In Europe (not sure of US, but I believe same), just the space between the worktops and wall cabinets are tiled, the rest of the wall is just painted. Same with bathrooms, most times just half tiling, and the rest of the wall painted. Quote. I like the kitchen wall tiled up to 3/4 of the wall because full tiling results in a hot kitchen when cooking is going on. You'd need to have an AC working to be comfortable . 3 Likes 1 Share |

Barryton: The block is not on top the beacon, the beacon is on its own in front of the fence. So the bricklayer is using the beacon as a point of reference to erect the fence. |
