Make no mistake: Kogi, the state that connects the FCT with 22 Southern States, is undoubtedly blessed with great natural wealth (e.g. limestone, coal, iron, petroleum and tin) and other unique characteristics.

In the midst of these channels, we found that our past leaders remained strangely shallow as to how they should channel these resources into abundant wealth. If anyone had said the condition would be this bad with the election appointment of Governor Yahaya Bello by the powers that be, such a statement would have been laughed to scorn. The experiences in the past years however have strangely and pathetically confounded all expectations.

Today, the economy of Kogi is on life support yet the Governor has begun a new round of campaigns. Its 2 years into his administration, and not even a SINGLE meaningful project has been commissioned in any of the LGAs. Hundreds of thousands of Kogi indigenes are unemployed and thousands have been forcefully led to untimely retirement, and some to the mortuary. Kogi roads remain the most disturbing in Nigeria; good health care is almost non-existence and even the fate of students in the old and dilapidated schools have remained unknown.

2 days into the New Year, Yahaya Bello hurriedly paid half salaries for 2-3 months of the over 6 unpaid monthly salaries for some workers. Even the blind could see the desperation and long-held hunger as the few ATMs in the whole of Kogi West, for instance, was locked down. Some waited 3-days before they could withdraw monies as low as N8,000. Just few days ago, the Governor jumped to the media with the claim that he owes no one any salary; this is coming after receiving several bail-outs.

Instead of recognizing the grand dissatisfaction pervading the minds of the people, a faction of his established party obtusely and arrogantly view the actions of their candidate as a grand affirmation that Kogi people are in support of their despotic ruler-ship. To make issues worse, the people are scared to talk.

Who wouldn’t fear a man who is said to arrogantly arm street urchins with the instruction to deal with whoever kicks against his policies? A man that insults traditional rulers and even instructs them to accommodate and indigenize people who are known for terrorizing their hosts?

My conviction is that it is time to put a stop to the tyranny of rulership of elites with infallibility ideas; people with no sense of direction, hope and sympathy; people who derive pleasure in arming thugs and riffraff towards coming elections.

We are not unaware that the governor has saved enough to walk his way through to the next election. First, through the several unpaid bail-outs, some of which were converted to 5kg bags of rice during the Christmas period. Secondly, through the hypocritical display of affection towards President Buhari and Madam Aisha.

Against his incumbency strategy, the good people of Kogi and indeed, all Nigerians, should be worried about the threat posed by our ‘a-mean-able’ governor against humanity. With all sense of concern, I’m urging all Kogites to rise against the re-election of Governor Yahaya Bello. It is time to come together and fight for an alternative.

The affliction we all know today must not rise the second time! Kogi, in the midst of abundant resources, cannot remain a civil servant state to be toyed with by political vampires.

The people I feel particularly sorry for are we the minorities if the state. This was a golden opportunity to inscribe your name in the annals of history that Yahaya Bello started the transform Kogi project.
Now the Igala majority will claim the governorship back( birthright things)
Sadly it will really be difficult for a minority to rule again.
There was once a state called kogi...

I'm a Kogite, not a civil servant, and I'm not based in Kogi.

Why do you ask?

There is still hope for the minority tribe. The Igala majority are wise enough to understand that the failure of a nonentity does not equate the failure of an entire tribe.

In fact, there is still hope for a minority tribe in APC, the only fear is that the man Bello would never allow anyone defeat him in the party primaries. He has enough machineries (civil servants' monies and thugs) to walk him through.
