I don't know about historically but as of today, i am a Sergeant First Class type in the United States Army and any Non Commissioned officer who engages in hazing is automatically relieved of position, reduced in rank and most likely dismissed from service. The world has moved beyond training soldiers to be brutes. 50% of any battle is mental and not physical. I am part of the best military in the world and we are the best not because they flogged us in training. We are the best because they instill discipline through planning and humane training. We are professionals and should act like one.

Americans pass through thesame level of physical training in order to boost their physical endurance.. Browse images of US army & marine in training & you'll see what I'm talking about... You should also know that it's the US who train these officals who in turn, train the cadets. The only difference between Nigerian & American training, is the environment. Theirs is clean & organized while ours is, well you know the rest...

Unfortunately, your current ranking puts you at a Corporal cadre at best when converted to British. You are still a relatively junior nco. When you manage to get commissioned into Officer cadre, we might continue the discussion on the rationale for brutality in recruit training. There is no such thing as humane training in any military camp anywhere in the world, this isn't the boy's scouts.

Until then, stop saying you are the BEST in anything, because you aren't. You might be the best funded, but it takes more than funding to be the best military. This is my last post on this as I wouldn't want to derail this thread by typing out the long litany of failures by the US Army in response to your brainwashed ''we are the best'' claims.

But op, are they called cadets.

I thought "recruit" is used for other ranks while "cadet" is for officers, both undergoing pre-enlistment and pre-commissioning training respectively.
