It's not easy studying in the university and most of the things u would come across would seem like rocket science at first but this is the bottom line, knowledge doesn't build on nothing. There's nothing u will be taught that has no reflection or doesn't apply to the things around, look for that connection and put it side by side with what u are conversant with or already know cos the most important aspect of knowledge is application, if u cannot apply what u are reading to what u can see and know, then u are just wasting ur time.

It's normal bro for people that thought you can use secondary reading strategies in University, no.
Just get yourself a jotter.
Get one serious reading partner.
Visit the library alone and read.
Do not go ambiguous, jot most important things in your own language and and the way you can understand.
I wouldn't say you shouldn't have gf or fun, no. Have your own timetable and follow it up strictly. Time to visit Ezinne should be in your spare time.
Mind you, you need free your mind and not to be scared or over too serious with studies, let it just flow. Go around with those jotters, you can easily review it anytime anywhere...with time it becomes part of you.

1. Change your Associations (Friends):
Read with and move with the brilliant students in your class. Copy them
2. Repeat and Rehearse:
The key to recall is repetition. The more you repeat what you thought you have read the more it sinks deep.
3. Divide and conquer:
It is better to read TWO pages with Assimilation than TWENTY with none.
4. Incorporate Rest before reading in your schedule:
A tired brain is a useless tool for reading and comprehension.
5. Ask God for Strength and Ability:
Walk with God if you are Born Again.
6. Ask for helps which will lead to your comprehension:

The truth is this.
When in Secondary School you probably didn't get a phone that browses or you never heard about nairaland then.
But the time between graduating from secondary school and gaining admission to the tertiary institution you discovered nairaland and have participated heavily reading and commenting on Nigeria's problems and now it has clogged your brains.
Take a break from the internet for a full semester unless you are checking out stuff related to your studies and just focus on studying, starting or joining a study group with other intelligent students, make friends with those you observe are easily excelling in your classes, listen to Christian tape messages as you study the Bible if you still find it dificult understanding the Bible when you read it.
And please if you must, Dont read and comment or argue on or about Nigeria's problems, whether in your hostel or online, Arguing with whimps and idiots about Nigeria's problems can make you dementia and thereby you get symptoms you are presently observing.

Find what works for you, you can try as many advises as you can get....eventually one will click and you stick to it. Some people do not understand when reading, do you go for your lectures and pay full attention? Maybe lectures are your thing

Maybe reading is not your best form of learning, try recording some of these things you read if you can and play it like music constantly and it may stick.

U just stressed out or worried or highly distracted. Relax and enjoy uself ok then take out time to study. Start gradually with little peices of information and see how u assimilate and remember those or yet still I had such problem in sec skol i solved it totally by reading novels majorly romantic thriller(james hardley chase specifically just 200 pages novel or abit more) which totally got my interest and everything else i read after dat stuck like glue skol books were no longer problems to read and understand. Its like training ur mind. Cheers

I had a friend that always fantasize about joining me in university back in the day. He finally got the admission and I was in 3rd year then.

Have a pen and paper with you. Jot down things as you read. It may be points, it may be whole sentences. But just write down what you have read. You may stop when you get back your reading/comprehension glue.

This is my advice as someone that passed through same situation. What is happening to you is not that you are being bewitched or your brain has any issue but it's just the realization of a change in the scope of what you are now studying.. I experienced the same thing in my 100level days and these are what I did
1. I reduced social freedom and fun by making myself realize that the main reason am in school is because of my academics
2. Limit religious meetings and responsibilities.
3. Ensure you have enough rest before studying and remember what works for you, won't work for your friend
4. Don't attempt to crash read as you use to do in secondary school, it won't work here because of the complexity of what you will be studying. So have some consistency in your reading.. "4hrs everyday is enough to succeed in university for any course"
5. Inculcate the habit of extracting vital information from your course material.. This will make information to be assimilated smaller
6.Try to have at least two contact with each course before exam( first contact is when you read to extract the material and the second contact should be with your extracted information)
7. For every 1 HR you intend to read, read for 45mins, take water and relax for the next 15mins and repeat the cycle( you can get glucose and mix it with water when going to read, you will observe that your brain is refreshed for the next reading cycle)
8. Pray( you will observe the steps from 1-7 is all about work, add prayer to it and thats how God crowns ones effort and not by praying(faith) without work)

If yes, like every other activity you give up for a while or for long, you lose potency and effectiveness, and you need to work your way back to full strength and capacity.

This issue is not a mental or a spiritual issue, so don't be scared. Just immerse yourself in your study and you'll start to understand speedily in no time.

Please take this seriously:
1.Get a pen and paper
2. Google "how to improve your memory"
3. Write down some tips and start implementing them steadily.
4. Be very open-minded about the tips
They only teach what to learn in school and not how to learn.
You need to teach yourself.
Additional tip: Reduce the amount of time you spend on your phone.

1. Were you given you choice of study? Is Economics your passion?
2. Find the time when your brain is at rest. This could be very early in the morning or before you go to bed in the evening to read
3. You might be depressed or worried. Find someone to talk to . A problem shared is a problem solved
4. Meet / form a group with the best students in class for discussion pertaining each topic
5. Pray everyday,
6.write down your purpose : where do you want to be in the next 6-8yrs work towards it
7. Be confident and Have a positive mindset
