Dear Colleagues,
There seems to be an outbreak of lassa fever in Abakaliki,Ebonyi State as we lost 2 Resident Doctors today,Dr Felix Ali,Dept of Community Medicine & Dr Abel Sunday Udo, Dept of Otorhinolaryngology,FETHA..

Dr Felix Ali had complications of Lassa fever & he was taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital,Irrua where he eventually died..

Dr Abel Sunday Udo,operated on a patient 3weeks ago suspected to have had lassa fever and he died this afternoon..
He also lost the patient..

The House Officer & the nurse that joined him in the surgery are presently on their way to Irrua Specialist Hospital,Irrua for expert care..

We advise all Doctors and Healthcare Professionals to be very careful and apply universal safety precautions as they manage patients..

Ebonyi State is a well endemic state with respect to Lassa fever, Resident, House officers and Interns should treat patients and samples with utmost care...

Even at height of Ebola no 2deaths from same facility was recorded.
Heard another death was also recorded at UBTH recently.
So scary.
The health Minister was probably so occupied with chairing Yusuf Buhari treatment committee,he neglected his other duties.

Nigeria really need the hand �️ of God. When most of our medical personnel are flocking out of the country, the few who are available are been killed by outbreaks!

The rate at which people are dying is getting too much, just 15 Days.......Its time churches should go on fasting and prayer.

This should not resurface at this time please because the present led APC government
are yet to find themselves how much more handling Lassa Fever crisis

Good save us.Speedy recovery to the afflicted.Meanwhile FETHA management should stop denying the dreadful reality of the Lassa Fever epidemic as Abakaliki is one of the epicentre of the disease.

I learnt the male nurse involved in managing the patient died this morning too.

Tomorrow some people will come here and be abusing doctors and we nurses.
You see how the two doctors lost their lives trying to save a patient.
It's worrisome.
