Secondary education is distinct from tertiary education. Some of the methods you used in studying in secondary school might not help you in the university. You don't just study. There are ways you read and assimilate faster.

Are you comfortable with mathematics? If you are not, it is better you start learning to be comfortable with it because it is a necessary evil in Economics.

Hello OP. I understand what you are going through right now. You need to know that Secondary school education is quite different from tertiary Education. You might be the best in your secondary schools which you don't see in yourself again.

There are some useful tips that you need to use while reading in other to read, Understand and remember everything easily.

The thing is, you need to follow the trend and use reading techniques that work. Understand the reading style that works for you. If late night study works for you, learn to read at night without sleeping off using these simple techniques . If not, read during the day.

In model specification, you're trying to determine which independent variables should be included in the model. You could adopt models by scholars with some modifications or formulate a new model based on theories.

Its been two years since you asked this question so I guess my advice might still be needed.

1. Start practicing meditation. Yes you heard me right incorporate at least 20 minutes of meditation into your daily actives preferably it should be the first thing you do when you wake up or the last thing you do before going to bed. If you can do it both after waking and before bed time that will be great and maximize effect. Meditation has been proven by neuroscientists to have tremendous effects on the brain like thickening of the neo cortex which processes and stores information in the long term memory, meditation increases grey matter and improves working memory, it also improves attention and concentration which are necessary skills to be an effective and efficient reader/student. Mediation is likes therapy/steroids for the brain

2. Read aloud. This reading method also works according to neuroscientists. Teach your note to your friends or to yourself in the mirror, it helps to remember.

3. Record your notes and listen to them. You can use an app that coverts them to audio. You listen to them while reading, by doing this, you are engaging more than one sense organs to help you understand and remember.

4. Break what you are reading into bits. Don't read 4 hours at a stretch instead read 30 - 45 mins or more. Take a break and try to relate what you read to a real life situation. Ask yourself question and teach it to your imaginary students.

Circle words you don't understand and look them up, circle sentences you don't understand and tag them as in "I don't understand this", when you come another sentence that helps you understand the former, circle it and link it with a line to the former sentence you didn't understand, you can tag the new sentence "I understand it now"...

Economics as a discipline is very wide and it will be foolhardy if you think you can cover everything.

What you do is; after reading a sentence, read with the intent of using that sentence as referral to everyday life.

When you see two goods being compared, let's say butter and mayonnaise, substitute that name with something you can easily relates to like 'Garri and semo/cocoyam.'

If you can get the idea behind a sentence, why it's made, the instance it can become factual, then, you are on the road of becoming an economics scholar.


Don't overthink, give yourself rest, play for like two days/a week, don't think that you were once brilliant, after all, you are still the same person... What I'm hitting on is that you shouldn't rely on past glory, see this as a challenge that needs to be surmounted... You have it in you, you are capable, if you are not, you won't be given admission in the first instance... With your will, you will be amazed at how easy it becomes to grasp what you're being thought.

The course is not as hard as you think, at least, not now... Be the best.
