Warfare is in the blood of every Edo.
Our ancestors fought wars for thousnads of years. It is now in our genes.
The only country which ever defeated us was the british empire which faced us with maxim guns and bazookas and all...
We still showed them pepper.
We are Edo, we are warriors !

Really. But history tells us that the present Oba is of Yoruba lineage. Please confirm this. He defeated Oba Ogiame and took the kingship from him.

Nope, Omo n'Oba n'Edo is 100% Edo like his subjects, no link to yoruba whatsoever.
I don't want to hear about ogiamen imposters ever again. You need to stop confusing stories and fables with actual history.
There was never an Oba ogiame or ogiamen !

Really. I schooled in Benin and I was taught the history in school. Are you saying that documented history is false. Or you people want to behave like the Egyptian that denied the Jews were never in Egypt? Why use the tittle Oba? Oba is Yoruba word for king.
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Arrested In Edo For Killing Bus Driver (Photos) by Nobody: 7:38am On Jan 31, 2018
Actually Oba is 100% an Edo word, the yoruba copied it.
In precolonial days, no yoruba chief was ever referred to as Oba. Rather it was alafin, alake and so on.
It is only when some yoruba chiefs wanted to elevate themselves and look like real kings that they started adding the word Oba to their title.
Although, it may be due to mistakes by some ignorant british officers.
Omo n'Oba n'Edo is the full expression.
Also, I don't know where you were taught all these fallacies, but I seriously doubt my Edo schools are responsible for you misadventure.
You clearly don't know the meaning of "documented history".

OK. If I get the source, I will send it to you. I went to Immaculate Conception College, Benin City and that is what our history teacher taught us. He even added the that world Benin is from a Yoruba word. It is coined from Ile ibinu which means, land of vexation. Please, confirm this also.

This is just an other story.
I don't believe your claim. This is a story which is very available online. Stop trying to dirty the name of an institution of learning.
You have most likely never been to BENIN City.
These stories are nothing but stories.
You didn't need to be in class to here this trash, they were written down by story tellers a long time ago.
Benin Kingdom was first visited by europeans in the years 1400's and Benin Kingdom already had its name, that is around 600 years ago.
So when a guy tells you these ridiculous stories about "ile ubini" you need to ask him how he got to know something which allegedly happened more than 600 years ago ? Who made the discovery ? Where is the historical document on which it is written down ?
Stop wasting my time with your obvious lies.

Must you insult someone in your attempt to defend yourself? I can show you the screen shot of my certificate. Or do you think I will just wake up and cook a story that never existed. History was taken out of school so that generations that are new will not have any knowledge of ugly past. If you insist on your version, It's OK. I will not argue with you any further. Where were you 1984. That's when I finished from ICC 3RD East Circular Rd. I am sure, I know Benin more than you. This is where I was raised up. Do you want me to describe all the streets From ring road? Please, respect other people's opinions or information. You are the first person to refute those stories. I will make my research. Internet information are not necessarily true because it is people like you and me that put the information there.

Why do you guys actually seem to suffer when you hear about the glorious past of Benin Kingdom ?
There is something very wrong with most black people.
They can't stand to see their neighbour prosper.
I talked about the glorious passed of my people and got insults from ijaw, igbo, yoruba and so on.
My talk didn't involve their people in any way.
And you are here telling me that you guys don't need to mind your business and that I should rather go to forums reserved for my people ?
The Guiness book of records recorded the Benin walls as the biggest earth work ever made by man without modern machines. And guess who was not happy about that and vented their anger ? The usual suspects.
Jealousy is a cancer !

Excerpt from Wikipedia on the history of Benin Kingdom.

The Benin Empire was a pre-colonial empire located in what is now southern Nigeria. Its capital was Edo, now known as Benin City, Edo state. It should not be confused with the modern-day country called Benin, formerly called Dahomey. The Benin Empire was "one of the oldest and most highly developed states in the coastal hinterland of West Africa, dating perhaps to the eleventh century CE",[2] until it was annexed by the British Empire in 1897.

The original people and founders of the Benin Empire, the Edo people, were initially ruled by the Ogiso (Kings of the Sky) who called their land Igodomigodo. The first Ogiso (Ogiso Igodo), wielded much influence and gained popularity as a good ruler. He died after a long reign and was succeeded by Ere, his eldest son. In the 12th century, a great palace intrigue erupted and crown prince Ekaladerhan, the only son of the last Ogiso was sentenced to death as a result of the first Queen (who was barren) deliberate change of an oracle message to the Ogiso. In carrying out the order of the palace, the palace messengers had mercy and set the prince free at Oghoton near Benin. When his old father the Ogiso died, the Ogiso dynasty ended. The people and royal kingmakers preferred their king's son as natural next in line to rule.

The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan who has changed his name to Izoduwa meaning 'I have choosen the part of prosperity' has found his way to Ile-Ife.It was during this period of confusion the elders led by Oliha mounted a search for their banished Prince Ekaladerhan who the Ife people will now call Oduduwa. Oduduwa who could not return due to age granted them Oranmiyan, his son to rule over them.Oranmiyan was resisted by Ogiamien Irebor, one of the palace chiefs and took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu Yoruba words (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to Yoruba land Ile-Ife. His son whom he left behind was deaf and dumb, and the elders recoursed to Oranmiyan who gave them charmed seeds "omo ayo" to play with which will make him to talk. The little Oranmiyan played with the seeds with his peers at Ego his mother town. While playing with the seeds he announced "Owomika" meaning 'my hands catch it' in yoruba but corrupted to 'Eweka' by the Edos. This is why every Oba of Benin must stay seven days in Usama and announce his name at Ego. Eweka thus started the Oba dynasty. Oranmiyan was also the founder of Oyo Empire where he ruled supreme as the first Aalafin of Oyo and proceeded to ile ife to become the 6th Ooni of ife while his descendants rules in Ile Ife, Oyo and Benin.

By the 15th century, Benin has expanded into a thriving city-state. The twelfth Oba in line, Oba Ewuare the Great (1440–1473) would expand the city-state to an empire.

It was not until the 15th century during the reign of Oba Ewuare the Great that the kingdom's administrative centre, the city Ubinu, began to be known as Benin City by the Portuguese, later be adopted by the locals as well. Before then, due to the pronounced ethnic diversity at the kingdom's headquarters during the 15th century from the successes of Oba Ewuare, the earlier name ('Ubinu') by a tribe of the Edos was colloquially spoken as "Bini" by the mix of Itsekhiri, Esan, Ika, Ijaw Edo, Urhobo living together in the royal administrative centre of the kingdom. The Portuguese would write this down as Benin City. Though, farther Edo clans, such as the Itsekiris and the Urhobos still referred to the city as Ubini up till the late 19th century, as evidence implies.

Aside from Benin City, the system of rule of the Oba in his kingdom, even through the golden age of the kingdom, was still loosely based after the Ogiso dynasty, which was military and royal protection in exchange of use of resources and implementation of taxes paid to the royal administrative centre. Language and culture was not enforced but remained heterogeneous and localized according to each group within the kingdom, though a local "Enogie" (duke) was often appointed by the Oba for specified ethnic areas.

Only kids take wikipedia seriously.
I wrote more than twelve of those wikipedia pages myself.
My generation wrote wikipedia (those born in the 1980's).
You are a real kid.
Just copy and pasting stories does not translate into history.
Look for original historical documents. Not stories written down by people by the virtue of the fact that they had access to the internet or a printing house.
Your education was not well done at all.
You can't talk about history if you don't have historical documents.

Your problem is that you are looking for a story rather than looking for history.
You think it is possible to hear a detailed story about things which happened thousands of years ago without anybody keeping any records ?
You are a kid who needs to go back to the school yard and play with your fellow tuddlers.

Now I know you are the real kid. If you were not born when it happened, who told you want happened? Quote your source so we can believe you. I never even knew it was in Wikipedia. After my research, it confirmed what I was taught in school. I went to school when school was still school. Not in your days where you have to cheat to pass. I have outstanding record in my academics. Please, be honest and admit you are a slave to the Yorubas.
