I bought a laptop @Jumia. Last year, ... Omo no be small gbege. The good thing was the I used the pay on delivery option..

When the delivery got to the warehouse @Ajah. I got a text. The delivery guy did not call or text, I waited for two days. During such period, I was always getting a msg that your good is on the way... So I figured out where their warehouse was...
When I reach warehouse. Omo. I see say my laptop don comot from pack o. One idiot they charge am, come they play music on top..

I asked for the delivery number. They told me they have returned it because I was not answering my phone when they came to deliver . I said okay, and went home.. They called early morning the next day. and brought that laptop I saw someone using..

I collect the carton first, tear the thing open. Inspect the nonsense. I wan tear the delivery man slap until I remember say no be him fault..

I return the thing shaperly...come send them a strongly worded email

Going by what you wrote, Jumia must be having issues with her staff. Such conduct by staff is unethical and will repel customers.

Case 1: another person's item was delivered to me instead of mine. Took 1 month after I returned the item before I was refunded in voucher. Item delivered was more expensive than what I ordered. (Item in order number A)

Case 2: another person's item in another state was delivered to me for no just cause. I returned it. No thank you or acknowledgement mail from Jumia. (No order at all)

Case 3: item not delivered but marked delivered 3 days after shipment. Jumia cannot trace who it deliver it to and obviously not at my address. No replacement, no refund up till now since 22nd December. Between JUMIA and client who's suppose to acknowledge receipt of item?(Item in order A)

Case 4: faulty item and second hand item delivered instead of brand new one. Meanwhile, this is a Jumia express product. Jumia express product are claimed to be original and well tested before shipment. Item was return since 12th January, Jumia claims it has not received it yet. I and you know FEDEX which is their return agent cannot be that slow not to have delivered it by now. (Item in order C)

Case 5: bought a 5in1 DVD which was supposed to be original. Got a pirated copy instead. Did a review and Jumia is yet to display the review despite that the item is sold by a third party. Such action encourage sellers to continue to sell fake items.

My verdict:
-Avoid these guys like plague. They'll tie down your money without conscience. Worst still when the finally decide to refund you, if you choose bank or card refund just wait for another one month before it is done.

-Products are fake.

-Users reviews are hidden. They are not honest here.

-There's no buyer protection. Instead it's seller protection.

I have however gotten good products from then in order A, B and C but because above experience, I'll NEVER patronize this guys again. Not even any other ecommerce site in Nigeria. Amazon and Aliexpress that ships from overseas are even more reliable.

RealTechFreak:
I want to bring to d notice of d Public my nasty experience with Jumia and to enable an average Nigerian to be wary of their practices. This is also to draw d attention of d Nigeria Ministry concerned to observe and sanction, as deem necessary, d gross erring and fraudulent practices of these Service providers, esp. authorised online sellers.

I placed an order of a smartphone (Order no. 36934xxxx) on Nov.27-2017 @ N16,815 with Jumia, with delivery instructions of 10 - 20 days delivery.

After failing to deliver within d sripulated period, I've placed several calls and sent series of mails to Jumia Customer care registering my displeasure at d breach of contract and d usual responses I do get remained "we are sorry for d inconveniences".

At exactly 53 days, a defective phone was delivered to me: when d phone was powered on, d screen remains blank white. After several attempts to get it on failed, I contacted d Customer Care to register d issue d same day and retrival was arranged after about 5 days.

After having confirmed d problem, I was contacted that a refund will be processed. I instisted that I prefer to have a working phone than a refund that won't be able to buy d same phone again at d price I bought it initially because its price has now gone up. After much arguments, I was assured a voucher compensation will be processed to augument d price difference since Jumia doesn't offer replacement. I categorically said d voucher compensation will be acceptable by me only if it completely takes care of d difference in d price buying d same phone again, now that my money had been tied down dis long. The jumia rep (name withheld) and I confirmed d least price of d phone then being 21,600 and d Rep. promised to get back to me soonest looking now at just N4,785 voucher compensation.

Shortly after dis conclusion, now Jan.31, d mail I received frm Jumia was captioned "Request resolved" with N16,815 voucher indicated. Confused about content of d mail as to whether dis voucher is in addition to my money (N16,815) which is to be be refunded or my money has just been refunded without any compensation, I sent several mails to Jumia to clarify issues but no response any more frm them.

Since I'm not hearing anything frm jumia again, by Feb.8-2018 I decided to call d Customer Care but to my greatest surprise, I was told that d N16,815 is simply my money money Jumia had just returned.

Now d questions are:
. In dis acclaimed returned N16,815 where is d promised voucher compensation?
. Atleast to protect her integrity, is N4,785 voucher too much for jumia to bear having unduly tied down a buyer's money for over 2 months?
. Could dis be sufficient reason why Jumia would not respond to my mails for clarifications?
. Does dis act not contravene d terms of d contract? I paid cash (frm my card) to buy, why should my money be converted to voucher?
. With whose consent was d money return in a way of voucher? Must I be compelled to use my money again on their platform?
. So any authorized online seller, like Jumia could hold buyers monies to ransom for more than 2 months without any compensation?
. Is our government really regulating d excesses of these sellers?
. If dis is d way Jumia holds down many Nigerians monies, can u imagine surplus illegal funds that will be available in Jumia coffers floating her business.

TILL THIS VERY MOMENT, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY PHONE FROM JUMIA, NEITHER GOT MY MONEY BACK NOR ANY COMPENSATION.

Today makes it 73 days I placed d order.

Pls let's all look into dis.

NB: Mods, pls do d needful.

Thanks for sharing this. I was actually thinking of ordering a phone on Jumia, but after reading this, I have changed my mind. I will just go to the nearest SLOT shop to do my business.

Why don't you write a petition to Consumer Protection Council (CPC)? They were created to sort out problems like this.

He got his money back in the form of voucher......is it supposed to be so?

Which invariably means he must use the said voucher on Jumia store cos I don't see the feasibility of using it elsewhere.

What a question,
Don't even cancel the delivery, when they eventually come to deliver it, simply tell them you're not around.. Shey it's pay on delivery?

I had a similar issue, they were meant to deliver a laptop charger on the 27th of Jan which a Saturday, but they didn't come until 30th of January.. When he eventually called, I told him that I don't need it anymore, today is not 27th

Nigerians never learn.

I will never do buy online to be delivered theres always a problem in my experience. I rather wait till I can go and buy it myself so there s no story that touches.

The only thing I order is pizza.

Anyone who is still buying on Jumia is doing so at his own risks. All manner of substandard products litters everywhere on Jumia. I've bought so many rubbish from Jumia, never will I patronise them again unless it is foreign items with crashed price. Their shipping charge is exploitative in nature.

Firstly, they should stop accommodating all sorts of junkies sellers. If they continue in this way, they will fold up eventually. I've bought items from them on several occasions, they had not only lost me as a good customer but I will also be discourage many people from buying on Jumia. Because the chance of getting good items delivered to you is 50%.
Secondly, their communication channels is dead on arrival.
If all of them can close down, they should. Nigerians are losing millions if not billions of naira yearly through their substandard items. That doesn't help our economy a bit.

Aliexpress is miles away from Nigeria, and issues as this doesn't happen on aliexpress. Lack of organizational structure and professionalism and expertism is what kills Nigerian businesses. They are more concerned about profits than service.

i AM SUSPECTING YOU BOUGHT FROM Jumia GLOBAL and that is why this issue is twisted. Just yesterday I discovered that on the jumia website, the options to switch from GLOBAL to LOCAL or NIGERIA has been stylishly removed.

I also bought from even JUMIA Local a backpack with charging port... BUT I was happy when it arrived My state and was waiting for delivery, I didnt go to office for 3 days to wait on JUMIA ghost "home delivery" pay on delivery service... TO MY SHOCK i kept getting sms and mails daily that they would be coming so I should be waiting.... then I went to their office and discovered a fooool there who returned my packaged because HE "tried" to come to deliver it but was not able to..... The number JUMIA sent me was OFF and he had a new number and with Pride he told me he had returned it. If it was not pay on delivery, I would have slapped him but I left it and swore NEVER to use JUMIA again. I would rather import at cheaper rate and wait a bit longer in peace.

JUMIA IS GOING DOWN.

What are you saying; "the options to switch from GLOBAL to LOCAL or NIGERIA has been stylishly removed"? There are 3 catergories of items on Jumia. Global, Market/Local and Express. Nothing like switching. Global is overseas sellers, Market/Local are sellers in Lagos, Express are items in Jumia warehouse.

And many people liked your comment thinking you know what you're talking about!

You talk like a business owner. Very understanding. It's not easy for Nigerian businesses at all.

A customer ordered a phone and a set of kitchen items...I shipped to Abuja for him, only for him to be forming busy. Time and delivery cost wasted.

People are shouting AliExpress and Amazon like they're perfect...go to their social media pages and see complaints.

Lol. 1 issue or the other, you said. Mine is 3 out of 5. That's 60%. It's not even a question of having issues but how issues are resolved.

Conversely, I've had only one issue in more than 20orders from Aliexpress and it was resolved amicably, through same channel payment was received and in a very short time.

How issues are handled matters.

How do you explain when mails are ignored deliberately?

How do you explain where customer request to account and you get voucher instead?

How do you explain delivery of wrong item or to wrong place?

How do you explain not sticking to timeline set by JUMIA itself?

The issues is too much and no concrete effort is made towards resolving them. Period

Lool at the Guy with the laptop story.

Yes, Jumia isn't up to standard yet with Amazon, alibaba and co but they are a startup coy that needs support.

Who makes up Jumia? Ans : You and I
Its your fellow brother and sisters that advertises wares on Jumia. In a country where virtually everyone has induced CORRUPT practices in their business, why should you be surprised to get a low quality goods advertised as High quality.

Sometimes the owners of this wears don't have stock of the goods marketed Online, yet they keep advertising it causing you the buyer to wait endlessly for the goods to arrive.

Let's not forget that some people too have been fraudulent towards Jumia. It has been reported severally, incidents where Jumia Delivery Man got robbed (Pay on Delivery).

Who bears the loss? You didn't factor that abi?
Some Unscrupulous person posing as genuine customers have wrecked pains to this startup coy, well that's what you get Living in a Shithole.

Let's support them jare, Konga has been sold, Olx is down, Jumia is last man standing with JIJI

#P.s : I bought my Phone from Jumia, 1year and counting no issues!
