This law should only be valid for people of Yoruba origin so it can be fair. You don't want to eliminate all the smart people from other areas in the country from Lady or Unilag just because they cant pass Yoruba exam. That would be most unfair.

PS: I'm Yoruba.

No law is final, it can be appealed.

Thank God, you agree you don't have more claim over Lagos than I have. Yourobas may influence the happenings in Lagos today, just because they are majority, it may be different tomorrow.
What will make it different exactly? Did you think before saying this at all? Yes every yoruba has way more claim than you in Lagos because same applies in your region. And regardless of how long you stay here, you are still a visitor. No space for unnecessary familiarity. You can't expect others to treat you how you refuse to treat them in your own region. Besides the way you've corrupted the spelling of Yoruba in all your comments shows you are not one of us and can never be. #bittertruth

See this guy oh! Which majority are you talking about, Lagos is ancestral to Yoruba's we didn't not displace another tribe or race to take over Lagos.

This isn't about majority population, It is our ancestral land passed on to us by our forefathers. Even if the entire SE migrate to Lagos it wouldn't change anything. Don't forget the State of Origin still stands.

Except of course you are ready to cause genocide on the entire Yoruba tribe to take over Lagos.

Bros, what is state of Origin? If my great grandpa was born in Lagos including all his discendants up to me, why wouldn't I claim Lagos as my state of Origin?
Re: Yoruba Mandatory For Admission In Lagos Tertiary Institutions by googi: 3:42pm On Feb 12, 2018
This is not a big deal. If anything it is helpful and educational.

Nigerians are ready to study any language to get into universities abroad. Why are you willing abroad to acquire skills but reluctant at home?

This is even better for Lagosians and their kids that cannot speak straight Yoruba.

Even Nigerian Govt have been advised many years ago to implement local languages. Many Eastern states and universities did.

Lagos came late but better than never. Only hypocrites and those with colo-mentality oppose this.

That's y majority dislikes you people, you are always too proud to accept defeat, if it's something that you will benefit from, it's welcomed by you and if you wont. benefit from it, they are trying to sideline your tribe,

Can you hear yourself out, that I didn't counter you, you can continue to argue from now till eternity, you can't and will never be a Lagosian because you ain't one in d first instance.

For your info,, you better start developing your state too,, so you and your generation can have something to lay claim to in d future.

LAGOS STATE CAN NEVER BE YOUR STATE. ADMIT IT.

Pls tell me one thing you can do that I can't in this Lagos, I can own property and have Yoruba tenants who must fullfil their rent if they want to keep occupying my rental property.

If you can't name one single thing, then you agree with me and let's end this matter, baby.

The only way you can claim Lagos as your state of Origin is only if you change your name to a Yoruba name. Even if your greatest grandfather was born in Lagos so far you are Igbo and bear Igbo names you cannot claim Lagos as your state of Origin. Be proud of your state.

Tetiary institutions in Lagos

This is vague. Does the law mean all tetiary institutions in Lagos which includes Yabatech and UNILAG and other private institutions or Lagos state owned ones only?

Can this law be held in federal secondary schools like Kings and Queens college?
Didnt you see '' state-owned'' in the right up??... Is Yabatech and Unilag state owned??

Lagos or any other state does not have a right to enforce this kinds of laws. The FG will not allow it. I am a lagos indigene, and I don't want to learn yoruba because it is not a national language. I learn other languages because it is fun for me and not by force. The FG will soon remind the state of that freedom of navigation and choice. In the end this is just blowing smoke. advice any igbo or others not to worry about this backward /hindrance law. Na until people begin fight for streets, then them go change am. Forget democracy so far there is nothing like State of Residence in our constitution but instead State of Origin applies you cannot be the Governor of Lagos state.

Are you aware an Igbo man under APGA wanted to contest for governorship in Lagos but was disqualified?

He was even interviewed on Channels and he disgraced himself because he was asked how would he address indigenous people(Yoruba people) in Yoruba language and he couldn't even say one word in Yoruba.

Am not tribalistic but what the Bleep do this Yoruba folks think that Igbo land is not developed. Have they been to the east.go to anambra and see what peter obi did,all villages are connected by roads and they are all tarred.go to nnewi indigenous companies are spring up including innoson motors, the last calculation it was recorded that they were 22 indigenous companies in anambra.go to enugu, the most planned city in nigeria where everything is organised.IMO state has his own share of development.go to aba and see what Igbo's are doing with their hands I was marvelled with the talent I saw their,a shoe.so Igbo land is not under develop.why d Igbo's run to Lagos is that no opportunity here because of less federal presence and d port that has been made d important port while port Harcourt port is ravaging.all d development are as a result of hard work by the Igbo man in d land.I will advise leave the west and move around and stop talking ignorantly and I forgot ebonyi state with lowest federal budget see the development.I was so impressed.and aside from Lagos what else I have been to four out of the states in the south west and nothing fantastic to write home about.Lagos is even depreciating due to the level of dirts from mile 2 to orile the staunch smell will make pregnant women have miscarriage. Even d island is becoming dirty.u don't undermine others,if u make your point make and stop hating on an Igbo man that care less of what you say,am just cool because I have a Yoruba guy that is cool if not I will unleash d wrath cos I know una finish.

I never heard about such a law and even if they enacted it, Its dead long before it arrives. It might be something that happened maybe 10 years ago n was never enforced because it is IMPOSSIBLE.

No state in Nigeria can "force" anyone to read a local language before they are allowed to graduate or allowed to gain admission. Such a law has never seen the light of the day in Nigeria and it will remain like that.

Besides if such a law was legal and was announced, Its Igbo land so it is justifiable . Lagos is not Yoruba land so the Afonjas have no ground to enact such law.

Sadly, it’s a new law passed by our representatives in House of assembly and announced by the governor himself yesterday

If you don’t like it, move back to your red mud region

Lagos is not your city. Stop trying hard. You are and will forever remain a visitor. The other day a yoruba man created a thread about wanting to be governor in Anambra and all your hateful kinsmen started swearing and screaming over their dead bodies. It was funny they fell for the bait because I see no reason why any sensible Yoruba will want to be live talkless of rule an eastern state. Only you easterners will jump at an opportunity to mingle with westerners. I assure you the feeling isnt mutual. Be proud of who you are. It is people like you who travel to foreign countries and start laying claim to benefits meant for indigenes only yet when they put you in your place you start crying about how they hate you because you are Igbo and they see you as a threat.

You are still lying to soothe yourself, why not introduce Yoruba as compulsory courses in the higher institution instead of making it a criteria to enter the higher institutions, who are you deceiving with your cunning nature.

You're the one who's being intellectually dishonest, I'm afraid.

The fact is that the reasoning and objectives behind the two different policies in the two geographical zones, are the same: that of preserving the Igbo and Yoruba languages, respectively. So, you're just splitting hairs if you now turn around to blame one methodology, while giving the other one a complete, tribalistic pass.

Further, it's arguable that, on the one hand, the policy by the Igbotic uni and some governments can be seen as a trap (you're suddenly compelled to master a language that's probably alien to you when you're already a formed adult AND after you've already undergone like two years of study in that institution.)

On the other hand, the policy by Lagos state for the same objective for the Yoruba language ecosystem, has spelt out UPFRONT what your options are, so it's more democratic and forward looking.

Your arguments are all the more perplexing, however, when, in one breathe you're questioning whatever the Yoruba language could be used for in a tertiary institution, only for you to rationalize it when it was pointed to you that some unis in Igboland already decreed the practice for the Igbo language since about 2013, or so! For me, I would have preferred for you to have said in response, "Oh, that's equally wrong!"

Further for me, the one thing I'd advocate regarding the new law in Lagos State, is that it be given a transition period, to enable concerned guardians properly mesh into it. And this is just for the tertiary institutions.

Other than that, no one particular challenge is ever surmounted in exactly the same way in different parts of a society. So, I'll not question the judgement of the Lagos State government over this new law.

We can contest for gubernatorial position which is a dream you can never achieve.
Now you answer my own questions.
1. Do you or do you not have problems with your people treating others the direct opposite way you demand they treat you?
2. Why are you ashamed of your own ethnicity? Why are you ashamed to lay claims to Ana, Onitsha, Enugu and the rest? Afterall you all claim they are more developed than the southwest.
3. Why always coveting westerners possession? (which is a sin going by the bible)
