Senators, on Wednesday, were divided over the reordered sequence of the 2019 General Elections.

Recall that the reordered sequence puts the presidential election last.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had, before now, put the presidential election among the first elections to be conducted in February 2019.

On Wednesday, the report on the election sequence was submitted for consideration of the Senate by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Suleiman Nazif.

After the presentation of the report, Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki did not allow senators to make contributions to the amendment, a development that led to series of Points of Orders on the floor of the Red Chamber.

Senators such as Kabiru Gaya, Abdulahi Adamu and Adamu Ailero, had raised points of orders on the passage of the bill.

But the Senate President ruled the lawmakers out of order and when some lawmakers observed the position of their leadership on the matter, they left the chamber,

Fifty-nine of them were to later address the Senate Press Corps, insisting on their opposition to the reordering of the elections.

Lie from the pit of Hell,

below is the report from punch newspaper

"About 10 members of the Senate have staged a walk-out in protest against the adoption of the report by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on the Amendment to the Electoral Act.

The protesters say despite the adoption of the report by the Senate, they would insist on its reversal.

They alleged that the amendment was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari."

The reordered timetable will not affect the present government alone. It has come to stay,if it is allowed. I think this is one of the best thing the current senate will be praise with if it is done.
Nigerians love it.....

Oga, it will be sent to Buhari. Of course Buhari wouldn't sign it. Then it would come back to the Senate and they'd veto it. The Executive and/or INEC may take the case to court, but the Judiciary will back the Senate.

This is prolly part of the preconditions Saraki et al have to do before PDP accepts them. Or it could just be Saraki et al making sure they secure their mandates regardless of what happens to Buhari. It's every man for himself.

Saraki is just wasting his energy.
Now that he has played his hands the battle will shift to the HOR where they will make sure it does not scale throu.
During harmonization process between both houses those clauses that were not passed by both houses will be dropped or represented (which will fail again).

Saraki pay back time is around the corner

Re-ordering of the 2019 poll bill is in order. Saraki's passage of the bill without the go-ahead order from other lawmak is his own way of playing into the PDP come 2019. I believe this is a well orchestrated action because the PDP knows that if the bill goes through the right processe, it may end up not seeing the light of the day.

This op is a liar, only 10 senators walked outta the chamber, nairaland mods should learn to confirm an event b4 sending it to the front page..

This is what happened.........

About 10 members of the Senate have staged a walk-out in protest against the adoption of the report by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on the Amendment to the Electoral Act. The protesters say despite the adoption of the report by the Senate, they would insist on its reversal. They alleged that the amendment was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, Senator Suleiman Nazif, had presented the report at the plenary on Wednesday. After the presentation, President of the Senate put the adoption of the report to voice the vote, saying there was no need for debate on it as it was from a conference committee which had harmonised the versions of the two chambers.

After the vote, the ‘ayes’ had it and Saraki ruled on it — a development that generated an uproar in the chamber. Saraki also ruled against three senators who raised points of order to protest against the adoption.
