United States Embassy Is A Big Scam by Openedheavens: 10:51pm On Feb 14, 2018
I was applying for a tourism visa with my fiancee and while filling out the electronic form to book appointment, my fiance mistakenly answered "yes" to the question "Are you 80yrs and above?".

Because of this single mistake, we couldn't schedule the appointment. On calling their contact centre, I was told the cause of the error (which is having answered wrongly to the question are you 80 years and above?).

I requested for a reversal in order to carry out the correct steps but I was shockingly informed that we have to make another payment. Himself and myself.
Meaning 128,000 naira (64,000 naira each) is gone. shocked

It's so annoying and devastating owing to the fact that nothing can be done to this criminal act . this is scam! This is daylight robbery. The way these people see us is what I don't understand.

How is it a criminal act?

Did you read all the fine prints on the site?

If it's not criminal, what is it?
Why would you make a single mistake and not be able to edit. Moreover this said money is going to their account. Fine, it's registered into a different category. Are they saying they do not have the technicalities to put things in place?
It's similar to mistakenly paying for clearance or hostel in a school portal while you want to pay for school fees. When you make complains, the money is reversed and you do the right thing.

The example given is even stricter compared to this case. Why would you choose a wrong answer for the question "Are you above 80?" and everything simply goes sore.
Not forgetting that you had earlier filled your age correctly in an antecedent page.

It's pure evil. This happens to people and they loose the money on a daily basis. If it were to be an organisation that loses customers or a competitive market, they wouldn't ever act that way.

Filling forms online, anyone can make a mistake. Besides, he claimed to not have seen the question because at a point his network was bad and he was automatically logged out of the site before continuing.

No matter what the terms are, it's simply not fair. Humans can make mistakes. 128k isn't beans in this economy.

A wise man once said, if you want to hide Something from a black man, put it in a book.

why didn't you read the terms and conditions before going ahead to start the process?

I think you are only interested in making a quote.
And you don't even know the appropriate quote for appropriate situations.
How does reading terms and conditions make you not susceptible to mistake?
The terms are clearly known by us. It's simply a case of making a mistake. Sometimes you click "YES" thinking you have clicked "NO".

Financial cases aren't treated this way especially when it involves a large sum of money.. If it's a case of lackadaisical act to instructions, it's understandable.

There isn't even a preview page to make you go through the information before submitting. if is so sensitive, you should be able to preview.
I still stand on the fact that it's a scam. They wouldn't do this within their country.

Embassies hardly allow you to make changes to already submitted application, even airlines will charge you heavily to correct a single letter after paying for a ticket.

This is why it’s very important to go through your form before submitting it.

Again, how is it criminal and did you read the fine prints?

It’s costly and ineffective, perhaps, but criminal?

You can actually change it. Just go through the new appointment process again. I had almost similar issue. Initially chose Abuja and wanted to change it to Lagos. I was told by some travel agents I spoke with that it’s not possible unless I pay another visa fee. I filled a new form and tried the appointment process all over again and was surprised it was changed. Though mine was for Dropbox but I believe it’s still the same process with fresh appointment. Try it and let’s know if it works for you. I am sure it will. Good luck!

Until we are united in the fight against injustice and ineffective ways some countries treat the black race, we Will make no headway.

This is a clear example of how to rip people off their hard-earned bread. In a situation like this where an applicant made a mistake while filling their form, an option should be made available for corrections although it may attract some extra charges but not paying a new application fees. It just doesn't sound right. I wouldn't say it's criminal but it does sound like it.

If we as a people do not stand against some distasteful T/Cs.. nothing will change. This status quo will remain the same and several individuals will continue to be hurt in the process while some "I too know peeps" enjoy the show like they are some U.S. embassy staff. You are a Nigerian. Doesn't matter if you hold other palis.
