Apart from bamboo and newspapers, every other material and equipment inside the AKEES Pencil and Toothpick Factory is imported from China. This has always been my quarrel with these people Successful industries worldwide locates where there's abundance of raw materials and cheap skilled labor So that the locals directly become part of the production process Apart from bamboo, every other item is imported and subject to fluctuating exchange rates and that makes it very vulnerable for long term planning or credit facilities |

| Re: Inside Nigeria’s First Pencil And Toothpick Factory by anochuko01(m): 7:31am On Feb 17, 2018 |
AnodaIT:doesn't that mean it'll be more economical to just import the ready made pencils? or what do you think? |

Comedy. Is it this manual packing method that they intend to deploy in competing with China? ![]() |
| Re: Inside Nigeria’s First Pencil And Toothpick Factory by AnodaIT(m): 7:54am On Feb 17, 2018 |
anochuko01:Much more economical. I have been to the factory and have a relative working there. Apart from procuring raw materials, the amount spent on power alone is bogus. They are totally dependent on diesel. In my opinion, I expected all industries to be located around Ikot Abasi which has the power plant and access to water transportation. It's not about isolating industries for political purposes |

AnodaIT:hmmn. such a project could have been carried out by governments....for show off and political propaganda. electricity, just like air to humans, is a basic need for industrialization to thrive. if this factory can diversify into more products that use the same raw materials for production, they'll survive, else they have no future. |
