Odunayaw:well there is a contrast to that in relation to Nigerians. Have you bothered to puzzle on why members of our armed forces and even police dust their some of their foreign peers in courses abroad. The average Nigerian is intelligent, dogged, tough and a victor( i mean no disrespect).I once went on a course abroad and there was this brutal endurance training responsible for many of their soldiers quitting but the five of us completed that exercise in record time time to their surprise while we saw it as normal . Its good to compare in other to measure appreciable progress but these rules don't apply to us sometimes. I get the angle you are coming from sha. |

Odunayaw:Actually it is not connected to the post perse, what I was alluding to is the possibility to absorb the SF into regular infantry units operating in operational duties . They have the training, what needs to be do is to increase the interoperability of guys in support of the infantry. They get more combat exposure, something not possible on a regular basis with SF .and the infantry gets a integral assymetrical combat capable soldiers as a organic capability. Cuts down logistics, chain of command, mobilization time and increases intelligence gathering and intelligence based ops capability of conventional infantry units. Very suitable for anti terror ops the kind being fought in Nigeria. It's just my opinion. |

CaptainStephen:Reminds me once there was a major ruckus between military, quasi civilian and civilian operators. Things got really heated over delegation regarding operational oversight. The chief asked one faction what do u do that the others don't. Pat came the reply "we sleep with the enemy" ![]() Now beat that ![]() |

HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT: NAF CONDUCTS MEDICAL OUTREACH FOR IDPS IN MAIDUGURI, DAMBOA In continuation with the series of efforts aimed at alleviating the plights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East and other parts of the country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced a 2-week medical outreach for IDPs in Maiduguri and Damboa Local Government Areas of Borno State. With the theme, “Alleviating the Medical/Surgical Needs of IDPs in Maiduguri and Damboa”, the medical outreach also involved surgical interventions for those with complicated and critical health challenges. The leader of the NAF Medical Outreach Team, who is also the Director of Public Health and Humanitarian Services at Headquarters NAF, Group Captain Azubuike Chukwuka, said the outreach programme was at the instance of the Chief of the Air staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, to assuage the sufferings of the IDPs as well as enhancing civil military relations, as part of the ‘winning the hearts and minds’ strategy of the NAF. Since the commencement of the exercise on 13 February 2018, the NAF Medical Outreach Team has conducted a total of 71 eye surgeries and 31 general surgeries on IDPs in Maiduguri and Damboa. At Damboa alone, 32 eye surgeries and 10 general surgeries have been conducted on IDPs, after screening 682 of them who had various eye-related ailments. In addition, the NAF Medical Outreach Team has so far provided free medical treatment to 590 IDPs at Damboa alone. Therefore, a total of 1272 IDPs have been successfully attended to in Damboa while more are expected to benefit from the NAF humanitarian intervention scheme, which is still ongoing. The beneficiaries were full of appreciation to the NAF for the humanitarian gesture and therefore thanked the CAS for the initiative, which had reportedly added much value to their lives. The beneficiaries also called on well meaning Nigerians and organisations to emulate the NAF noting that the intervention could not have come at a better time than now as most of the IDPs cannot afford the cost for such surgeries if left to foot the bills. It is significant to note that the NAF had carried out such free medical interventions in all geo-political zones of the country, with the most recent successfully conducted at Enugu, Bakassi and Makurdi. According to Group Captain Azubuike Chukwuka, the exercise is expected to end on 1 March 2018. OLATOKUNBO ADESANYA Air Vice Marshal Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force

PRESS RELEASE RE: AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL REPORT ON ALLEGED HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE BY THE NIGERIAN MILITARY 1.The recent report released by Amnesty International (AI) on 22 February 2018 alleging human rights violations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), is a gross disservice to the nation’s high security command. The action of AI seem to be geared towards weakening the efforts of the AFN at ensuring peace and security in the country. It has been observed that AI has made it a routine duty to continue generating tension among the citizens by releasing unconfirmed reports, unsubstantiated claims and figures relating to military counter-insurgency operations and wanton killings by unknown groups or persons. It is pertinent to re-iterate that the AFN as a responsible institution, financed by taxpayers, is bound to respond to these allegations in order to put the records in proper perspective. The AI allegations of human rights violations and extra judicial killing of civilians by the AFN have followed a specific trend for some time now. It could be noted that the organization’s allegations made against the AFN since 2011 to date are largely unsubstantiated. 2.The figures released by the organization showed that 4,900 Boko Haram detainees were held in Giwa Barracks in an overcrowded facility where 340 detainees had already died of diseases and dehydration. They further stated that 164 civilians were killed by the Nigerian Air Force when an IDP camp was hit at Rann by a Nigerian Air Force fighter Jet and also that 12 IPOB members were killed in Umuahia by the AFN. Unfortunately, AI have failed to acknowledge the on-going fair trial and conviction of culpable members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect and the release of those not found guilty. The number of persons released and re-integrated with the larger community is over 500.Both the convicted and freed suspects were earlier arrested from different locations across the country and taken to Kainji, a place that is relatively safer with enough space to accommodate them while providing the detainees with 3 square meals daily. The suspects were also given proper medical attention by military medical team attached to the detention facility. It is notable that the arrested Boko Haram members from the ongoing OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE were being tried by the Federal High Court at Wawa Cantonment Kainji since Friday 16 February 2018 convicting 205 detainees to various jail terms while 526 suspects have been freed for want of evidence. 3.Other sins of the Nigerian Government as captured by the AI in its report include infringing the rights of lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals and transgender as well as intersex persons. These AI championed rights have been strictly outlawed by Laws of the Federation of Nigeria subsuming the Nigerian constitution as well as the cultural practices of our people. This position of AI, clearly show slack of respect for the constitution of Nigeria which these laws have become part. Let it be known that the Nigerian Government and its people are not ready and would never be, even in future, to please AI or anyone with the introduction of such things. However, if AI feels strongly against the position of the Nigerian people on this issue and wants to assist the ‘victims’, they could issue these class of people with green cards to enable them re-locate to other places across the world that accept such practices as it may not be necessary for them to remain Nigerians. 4.Generally, the authenticity and sources of figures generated by AI are worrisome. Regrettably, the military high commands were never contacted for clarification or guidance. The Defence Headquarters on its own made concerted efforts to meet with the country management of AI to discuss related issues without success, as they had consistently failed to show up. This reaction of AI connotes that the body in Nigeria could had been sponsored to frustrate conflict resolution efforts towards peace and positive development of the nation. The deliberate falsehood peddled by AI could cast the nation and its security apparatus in bad light. Meanwhile, AI does not seem to see anything wrong about the insurgents’ activities and known criminals until security agencies rise to the occasion of effectively containing their actions. It could be noted that anytime the AFN has reasonable assurances of getting military hardware and or expendables to further its operations or are recording remarkable successes, the AI as an organization would come forward with falsehood to weep up anti-Nigerian sentiments within the international community. These are evident in the AI reports from 2011 to date. 5.Such reports had made in roads to the US congress a couple of years back leading to the invocation of Leahy Law against Nigeria at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency. The current report could have been ill-conceived to frustrate the on-going US-Nigerian anti-terrorism cooperation. It could then be posited that the aim of AI in Nigeria is to cripple the country’s security apparatus through cheap blackmail in order to hold back necessary collaboration. The AFN has both constitutional and moral responsibility to protect Nigerian Citizens and cannot suddenly engage in mass murder as portrayed by AI. The AI reports are at variance with and do not reconcile the information we are collecting from the field on daily basis making these sources suspect. 6.This is to inform the Nigerian public and the International Community that the AFN exhibit professionalism in its operations. Therefore, it is not proper an organization in the class of AI to incite the Nigerian public and the international community against them. Currently, the AFN is bringing sanity to security challenges in the North East and other parts of country. The Nigerian Military does not in any way condone indiscipline or breach of set regulations, let alone want on killing of citizens or destruction of property. It is worthy to note that, the AFN regularly collaborate with the International Committee of Red Cross on training of personnel on laws of armed conflict and International humanitarian law. Troops of the AFN are guided by Rules of engagement and Standing Operational Procedures which are explicit on how to conduct operations. 7.It is also worthy to note that, since 2015 the military high command have introduced training of troops in Human Rights and Laws of Armed Conflict. These are compulsory courses in all AFN institutions which are yielding with positive results. The AI is therefore requested to liaise with the Defence Headquarters for clarification on any matter regarding military operations before putting up inaccurate reports. Such reports are also capable of hurting the reputation of AI itself which would not be the best for the society in terms of accountability. The Nigerian public and international community are hereby requested to disregard the current Amnesty report, keep faith and confidence in the AFN. 8.You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium. CaptainStephen:I am glad you understand the angle I am coming from, I likewise understand yours. I just feel 500 soldiers should/could have been gotten in a far more longer time taking into cognisance the role, funding available to the service, logistics etc. This is one of the reasons why I respect the NN SBS,even at the height of the insurgency they withstood mass production(which is only possible through reduction of some standard (might I add that standard comes from expected) operational picture) and still churned out numbers below a gross. ![]() |

Odunayaw:NNSBS is a standard SF. AFSF standard sef never reach their own. NAF SF squads in my opinion are just officers trained to be highly skilled than the rest. Someone ones used this statement here "all operators are SF but not all SF are operators" I guess this summarise it. |

“They understand that the platoon leader is in charge of the overall plan, understand the platoon sergeant is there to take care of – as we say – the ‘beans and the bullets.’ Sustainment-type operations.” US soldier's opinion of Nigerian infantry troops when his team went their to train our troops. Funny he find this surprising, Nigeria in my opinion should stop certain type of training with foreign troops, it just embarrasses our country in my opinion, unless it's specialized training, we should pass and do our training at home. The idea of a 22yr old US soldier going to nigeria to teach a war verteran how to point and shoot is madness. Just saying |

Xbee007:it is one thing to identify a problem, it is another to have the ability to solve it, what you just said is not a solution to the problem you earlier mentioned. State police was instrumental to the civil war you fought between 1967-1970, going back to a problem solved over 40yrs ago is proof you have very little knowledge about how we got here. I have noticed lately that young people in our country who missed history lessons jump to the media to attack the structure of governance with no knowledge how and why it is the way it is at the behest of selfish politicians who careless about their interest. Borno state vigilante/police may help you protect Dapchi girls in Yobe state today, when yorubas or igbos disagree on a subject, you will realize that localized force will easily take sides in every conflict, that is why the Nigerian security apparatus is decentralized, first proposed during the Aburi conference, carried over to the 1979 constitution till date, a brilliant panacea to our ethnic charged society, Americans don't have ethnicity problems therefore they can afford NYPD unlike Nigeria like most dolts advocate. While the Lazy governors are planning how to use those state structures as legal thugs to rig elections, civilians like you give a voice to their !diocy founded on poor understanding or outright chicanery to manipulate the structure that favors them. While singing their opinion to us, it is smarter to ask what is in it for you? If there is a misunderstanding between Igbos and Yorubas in Lagos state, on whose side will the Yoruba dominated state police be? in a decentralized system, a Northern commander is deployed to maintain peace and order. This structure is the only fabric that has glued together our fragile ethnic charged society, in pre 66, when we ran the structure you proposed, we ended up in a civil war, why will you want to replay such tragedy out of ignorance? Im sure you think the COAS is a Borno man by accident right? well, the current structure gives us the opportunity to send a man from Borno who is hard hit by BHT tragedy. In countries that operate state policing there is a structure called inter agency cohesion, that is practically non existent in Nigeria but citizens like you dont ever see the big picture but the myopic picture presented by selfish politicians fighting for their economic future. State police will Destroy Nigeria! |

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO LOCATE MISSING DAPCHI GIRLS The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed additional air assets, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, to the Northeast in a renewed effort at locating the missing Dapchi girls. Before now, following confirmation of reports that some of the girls were yet to be accounted for, the NAF had deployed some ISR platforms and helicopters to search for and possibly locate the missing girls as well as the rogue Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs). Although these search operations were conducted in a covert manner, for obvious reasons, the efforts did not yield the desired results. Accordingly, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, directed the immediate deployment of additional air assets and NAF personnel to the Northeast with the sole mission of conducting day and night searches for the missing girls. It is noteworthy that the renewed efforts at locating the girls are being conducted in close liaison with other surface security forces. While the NAF will spare no efforts at possibly locating the girls via its air operations, it also seizes this opportunity to call on anyone, especially the locals, who might have any useful information that could lead to the location of the girls to bring such information forward to NAF authorities through any of the following GSM numbers: 08122557720, 08035733438, 08172843484 or 08058419128. Such useful information could also be forwarded to other relevant security agencies. You are please requested to use your medium to disseminate this information for the awareness of the general public. While thanking you for your usual support and cooperation, please accept the assurance of my best regards.
