Requiem Biafra is a must read for anyone wants to understand the Biafran war. That book was just battle after battle after battle

Achuzia was a man who was fearless. There was one battle which he was losing to the Nigerian side and he realised that if he did not do something drastic, he would be overrun. So in the heat of battle, he assembled all the Biafran troops under his command in a compound to address them on the new tactics to be adopted. The men were assembled in the compound and bombs and morters were falling all around the compound but Achuzia told them not to move. Above the deafening sound of bombs exploding, Achuzia shouted instructions over and over again and when the Biafrans went back into battle, they pushed the Nigerians back and saved the day.


That man was made of iron. "Requiem Biafra" is a must read

Requim Biafra is an excellent read but it looks at the war from those on the Biafran side. To have a more balanced view of the conflict it's best also reads works done by those on the Federal side.

My post is not to impress you. Know that if we leverage on Biafra technology during the war, Nigeria would have gone far, even inoson that wants to do something we are persecuting him. I am not an Igbo. I like saying the reality.

Sorry Sir. But Achuzie does not belong to that group. He was in a class of his own. An accomplished electrical engineer, a successful business man before the war and a gallant soldier during the war. At the end of the war he became an igbo nationalist and leader. He never indulged in contract hunts or politics but stood firmly by word and deed to what he believed to be true. I am happy he did not falter or compromise till the very end. The igbo nation will forever miss you. Adieu Dike na agha!

After I read his book "Requiem Biafra" where he told his Biafran war adventures, I bowed for this man.

Many people dont know it but this man came so close to death on several occassions during the war

Infact, it was him and an Ibibio officer called Lt Colonel Nsudoh who blew up the Niger bridge, preventing Murtala Mohammed and his second division from taking Onitsha. He would later completely destroy Murtala Mohammeds 2nd Division at the battle of Abagana

My father bought this book around 1982. It was published in 1980. According to Alexander Madiebo in the book, Achuzie(which they wrote as Achuzia) was just an ordinary citizen turned militia and then, he quickly rose up the ranks to Colonel in no time. His methods were unconventional but they proved effective in many situations. At least, he and Effiong did not run away like Okpara, Ojukwu and Madiebo�

If you know the story of Field Marshall Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel aka The Desert Fox of NAZI Germany, then this is his Biafran counterpart.

I have heard yarns of his exploits and campaigns during the war and even that of General Benjamin Adesanya Maja Adekunle "The Black Scorpion". These two where the real heroes of the civil war.

"Hannibal" was even the brain behind the tactical and peaceful surrender to OBJ and should be celebrated much more than Ojukwu.

From what I was told, General Yakubu Jack Gowon's declaration of "NO VICTOR, NO VANQUISH" after the war was because nobody wants a piece of this guy, He had been given full control of all Biafran forces (Dead or Alive, Beast or Man) 3 days prior to the surrender while VP Phillip Effiong was made President. And The Black Scorpion who was the only one who could measure up with this guy had been relieved of command.

My Pops still calls him "Odogwu"........ mehn, the guy terrorise Nigerian Army sha, na why him name still deh fear dem to mention till this day hehehhehehehehehehehe

Frederick Forsythe in one of his books, talked about how Ojukwu got an Intelligence Report 2 weeks before the Nigerian Government ever knew concerning British plan to deploy submarines and warships to Lagos to help in the war efforts against Biafra.
