The great iroko has finally fallen. The mighty Hannibal of Biafra.

The erstwhile terror to the hausa/fulani and Yoruba military junta. A nightmare to the combined forces of the Egyptian and English demonic mercenaries

The great nwafor from asaba, delta state that never stopped professing his igboness and the need for the harmonization of the SS/SE igbos even till his final moments.

Rest in peace the great Hannibal of Biafra.

Biafra mourns you

I am a flat head brother. My only objective in life is to attach myself to the South South whether Afonjas like it or not.

May chukwu alewa dawadawa continue to give us the wisdom never to let go our dreams of forceful attachment. Iseeeeee!

Sharom to all my fellow wawa Jews.

don't mind all these guys shouting biafra everywhere. I am sure many of them didn't even knew this man until now.

I think a thread should be created to list men who fought in that war and the roles they actively played.
Excellent idea.

Banjo and Emmanuel Ifeajuna are traitors.
Purposely delaying the Ore movement for the federal government to buy time and mobilize the 2nd division and fighting back.
Both i.diots were communicating with lagos

ifeajuna was an enigma who dissapointed almost everyone who trusted him, banjo was a socialist who remained true to his convictions and those values were at variance to ojukwus ideas.

If he's such a hero how come most of us have never heard of him? Don't get me wrong, my point is, we should learn to celebrate our heroes when they are still alive (which actually benefits them more) than when they are dead, which is of no use to them.

If you are Igbo, you should be somewhat ashamed about not knowing who he was. This man rose from being an untrained militia man, to being one of Benjamin Adekunle's fiercest rival. Read up about other brave HEROS like Gen. Philip Effiong, Colonel Patrick Amadi,Colonel Nsudo, Christopher Okigbo, Lieutenant-Colonel Willy Archibong (AKA Prince of darkness) etc. Can't mention all of them, the point here is regardless of the outcome Igbos should always stay informed about what happened during the war.... NEVER forget! You should read the book : No place to hide (crises and conflicts inside Biafra) by Bernard Odogwu. That is probably the most accurate account of what went on during the civil war.

Heroes like Col. Joe Achuzie shouldn’t just be remembered; they should be used as an example to inspire us all.
Thank you sir, for your selfless service to your people the Igbo/Biafrans. A grateful people, a grateful land are forever indebted to you.
Eternal rest grant unto you, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon you. May your soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

A road, a school( University) or any public edifice should be named after Achuzia in Igboland, for his contribution in preserving the Igbo race through selfless acts of heroics in our darkest moment in history.

A very brave man, who did his part but caused a whole lot of issues for the regular army. if only he had used less brawn and more brain.

mehn!!!!! that Generation of igbos were simply Audacious , imagine destroying the whole of the second Division of the Nigerian Army and sending Murtala Mohammed to exile by a troupe led by Major Uchendu, only the coming Generations of igbos will truly treasure the exploits of Hannibal and co, These men were hard with metal hearts how on earth can any army in the world fight a coalition of Britain , Soviet union (not russia) Egypt , East Germany, Sudan, Chad , Cameroon, Niger Republic etc and still live to tell the Story ,Today all former Nigerian Heads of states shudder when they hear of biafra and most are nursing life threathening injuries till date.

God give igbos Audacious men , RIP our hero Joe Achuzia

Sorry Sir. But Achuzie does not belong to that group. He was in a class of his own. An accomplished electrical engineer, a successful business man before the war and a gallant soldier during the war. At the end of the war he became an igbo nationalist and leader. He never indulged in contract hunts or politics but stood firmly by word and deed to what he believed to be true. I am happy he did not falter or compromise till the very end. The igbo nation will forever miss you. Adieu Dike na agha!

Good

How come he wasn't very active in Ndi Igbo politics after the war?

He seems like a great guy and a better alternative to the clowns and jobbers Ala Igbo parade as leaders in national politics

Banjo was a confused man and an unstable character.
He had no values.
He led the invasion into the Midwest but when it came to cross Ore in Ondo he became a socialist,he is not worthy to be called a soldier.
Both i.diots were rightly dealt with.

Not everyone is interested in politics, but Achuzia was very much an activist about Igbo unity and progress.

In 1963, when the Mid-West Region was created, Achuzia and some other Igbos started a movement so that all the Mid-West Igbos could join their kith and kin in the Eastern Region.

In addition to this, Achuzia was once Secrerary General of Ohaneze

sir, the one who writes the history largely determines who is a hero or villain.
At the same time, my eastern brothers do not really like having heroes, one thing I always use to quarrel with them for.
Compare Adekunle from Ekiti whom Federal Uni, Oye-Ekiti has been renamed after, my western brothers never stopped seeing him as a hero even why he was alive and they celebrated him as such in death.
I don't think tht uni was named after the black scorpion o....looooooooll

Nigerian Military as it is today and in the past cannot dare to even dream to fight a coalition of britain, Soviet union , Egypt, East Germany (of hitler) , Niger , Chad , cameroon and Sudan . But a generation of igbos with just 17 rilfes only, dared the whole world and inflicted an incurable an unquantifiable damage on this coalition.

We need to celebrate these men in everyway possible, some us can raise our heads today and speak without intimidation becuase of the exploits of these great men .
God bless and and accept the soul of Achizia for sacrifing his comfort abroad coming back to Nigeria at a time the igbo nation were in their most vulnerable state and fighting with almost barehands to defend the defenceless of his people.

The day igbos will hear of the sacrifice of Achuzia that is the day the whole igbo land will declare a public holiday and mourn him. Achuzia was abroad in1966 when the war was about to start but chose to fly back to Biafra , flying back to fight for the common interest of igbos

To even think Achuzia was never a trained soldier but a trained engineer who offered to help at the war front as a trained Biafran soldier remains a mystery

SMH at you, the two groups of people that won't know the great Hannibal are little kids and those that don't/can't read! This man was arguably the most gallant soldier on the Biafran side during the war. The greatest single massacre inflicted on the Nigerian soldiers was led by the Hannibal himself, and that was the Abagana ambush when with much lesser men and ammunition, he ambushed a full battalion of Nigerian soldiers armed to the teeth!! What was left of the thousands of Nigerian soldiers were their charred remains and long columns of completely burnt out tanks, armoured cars, vans etc! Google Abagana massacre and be informed, you can thanks @@ me later. If you read the comments above, then you will realize that you belong to the minority that don't know Col. Joe Achuzie. Reading his exploits when I was small used to fill me with awe.
abagana was the ogbunigwe in action. Achuzias greatest exploit was the Onitsha siege. Nigerian soldiers dreaded him so bad, they self inflicted injuries on themselves when word got to them, they'd face a battalion he commanded.

Delta is a multiethinic state, with many Ukwuani and Ika people suffering from self hate (Igbophobia) and by extension, Biafra phobia.
I don't expect Delta to do anything for him.

The onus is on SE governors to name an important monument after him. Anambra State University had been renamed Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Imo state University is now Evans Enwerem University, it's remaining Abia and Enugu state universities.
Ebonyi FUNAI was recently renamed after Ekwueme, so it will be unfair to expect EBSU to be renamed this soon.

I think ABSU or ESUT should be renamed after Achuzia.

That's the right thing to do, if only we have thoughtful leaders.

Men who made personal sacrifices for the good of a people must be rewarded to encourage other members of the populace to imbibe such traits.
