A Nigerian man identified as Treasure Olawunmi Bayode is on course to break the world reading marathon record.

The man took to twitter via his handle (@iread_bayode) and revealed that he is attempting to set a new Guinness world record for "The Longest Reading Marathon"

The young man who kicked-off his reading marathon at the You Read Library, Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba in Lagos, said that he plans to read for 120 hours straight with only two hours break every 24 hours.

Bayode began the quest at about 1:30pm on Monday with reading from the book Carnivorous City by Toni Kan.

Sponsors of the event include Guaranty Trust Bank, Tagheuer, Lagos state government amongst others. At present, the longest marathon reading aloud record is 113 hours 15 minutes achieved by Deepak Sharma Bajagain (Nepal) at the Tudikhel Ground, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Bajagain’s book reading began on September 19 and ended on September 24, 2008.

With Bayode's quest to reach the 120 hour mark. He will not only hold the Guinness World record for the longest time reading, he might be on the path to hold the record for a very long time.

Nigeria shameful country how has all the professors we have produced since independence numbering into billions helped make nigeria into a country of human beings and not country of savages and wild Animals? In working countries, there are students' loans not to even talk about scholarships. That shows you how much education is valued. Your plan B, C and D is simply because you're living in a country-like shithole. In societies where education works, education has no limitation.

I actually pity this generation. I don't think it is your fault. In our time, there was no smart phone and no computer. There was nothing to distract us. No social media, no phone. Just only you and yourself. No TV sef. At least till 5pm when NTA would start with Voltron. After that, nothing interesting to watch again.

We could read, 4, 5, 6hrs without distractions.
I can bet you are the type that checks his phone every 10mins. Always buying credit, always replying WhatsApp.

What you need is to ditch the phone and face the book you are reading. I know it is not easy. But start now before that phone overpowers you and becomes your master.
