The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has said that the only time herdsmen can be arrested and punished for rearing and grazing on the open places is when ranches are established by state governments.

I find it very annoying when occupants of respectable government offices make such ill-informed and illogical statements.

Is cow business tantamount to government business? Why should government bear the responsibility of building ranches for cows? Will the same government also build pens for pig rearers and shops for spare parts dealers and drinking parlors for liquor merchants?

How can any right thinking individual in this same country where I buy fuel at twice the pump price, pay taxes through my nose and still be expected to bribe when I require tax clearance certificate, produce and generate my own electricity, water and road, etc ask government to take on the responsibility of building ranches for cows?

If you are this clueless as to what to do or say as a government official, the honorable thing to do is resign!

If the herdsmen are placed in a fixed place such as a designated ranches, it will be much easier for the security operative to put in check and monitor the movements of the terrorist amongst them roaming and killing everywhere.

If it is about to curb the destruction of farms and killing of farmers by the fulani herdsmen, the only feasible way is to camp the herdsmen and their cows in a ranch. with that the government will enact a strict law that will bared the herdsmen from roaming around farms and towns.

It is a matter of adding the cost of running the ranches into the cow cost. As long as all herders adopt it, there will be a level playing field.

It can only be feasibe if the goverment can provide the ranches in a fixed place. The ranches will be the goverment property not the herdsmen.

No. The ranches should be of known locations. Just like govt know business addresses and use it to tax them.

The Government did not build poultry farms for poultry owners or fish pond for fish farmers why on earth should that of the herdsmen be different.The herdsmen are not indigenous to the south,they can head back to the north let their state governments build the ranches for them.Over here in the south ,it will NEVER happen!!! Forest reserve is to preserve nature and not a colony or reserve for bush meat hunters.
