Its like the "C" in APC now means "Crisis" or "Confusion".

I just can't understand the almost every time misunderstanding between the executive and the legislature when both belongs to the same party.

'the source said'?

whenever they want to tell you about how some money was embezzled in the presidency, most times it is 'the source said'

whenever they want to tell you about how fulani herdsmen have killed 1 million farmers, it is 'the source said'
and you've always been very happy about it.

so why are you wailing about 'the source said' today?

hypocrisy might be bigger than corruption in nigeria.

I'll continue to bust your propaganda.. If you like knack head for wall tongue

Buhari is not our problem honestly. Let us think twice. Fine we can all vote out Buhari in 2019, but these same sets of politicians that are either reps or senators will still be there when the new president comes in. We ain't going nowhere if we don't boot these guys out. The president is the least of our troubles Walahi.

And come to think of it, if only they can give that man the Ajaokuta sole administrator a free hand to operate, Sumaila will break grounds and revive that steel plant. I have known him from his days at British tobacco, to Lafarge and to Shell. He's a senior engineer that knows his onions from suya. But will these vultures and scavengers allow him? Fingers crossed. I weep for this country.

This same Ajaokuta Steel? I can assure you that over 2 trillion Naira have been looted in the name of Ajaokuta Steel since 80s. Every government from Shagari, to Buhari, IBB to Jonathan looted billions of dollars. And now Buhari? Poor Nigerians!
I think we are now under anti corruption wizard...The project Buhari used to campaign since 2003, is now being vehemently resisted by the same Buhari...No record of any developing country that make serious progresss without an active steel industry...from China to Brazil

Before you comment, pls read the write-up.

Stop ranting! If you had followed the public debate yesterday on the floor of House of Representatives, you would have known that Mr Fayemi would have been disgraced.

Ask those who watched it to explain how a fair female activist, Hadiza, I guess, exposed all the corruption being perpetuated in the sector with evidence right from the time of Obasanjo to Fayemi of today.

Fayemi and his junior minister were lucky they boycotted the debate, compelling the HoR to pass a vote of no confidence on them. Some reps even called for his immediate arrest but Speaker Dogara rejected the call.

Take my advice, the worst job you can take in Nigeria is to defend a Nigerian politician because they stink to high heavens!

Legislators that are asking for the minister to add $500 million? When the minister, his team and the administrator have done their survey and scope? You must be joking. How did they know that Ajaokuta needs additional 500m dols? HOW?

This is how crooked and corrupt the legislatures are, they are so used to budget padding that the new situation with ministers like Fayemi and Fashola standing in their looting ways looks like an anomaly and challenge.

Fashola's 3 ministries and Fayemi's ministry used to be their cash cow where they pad and approve budgets loaded with unwanted and un-requested funds that the ministers and pam-secs kick backs to the reps in form of contract awards to their front companies.

They even expect the ministries to fund their foreign travels, shopping and estacode pay scams. They are are still going after Fashola for refusing to fund their foreign trips.

When you hear the reps shouting and going sanctimonious, they are not doing so because they care about Nigeria or their legislative duties, it's always about their pockets.

These reps are nothing but greedy clowns and saboteurs.

$1.5 billion to come on stream. Please tell me how much does a new one cost?

We should bin Ajaokuta instead of this ongoing sunk costs fallacy we are engaged in.

It's failed, the money is gone and buried, move on!

Construction of Gahapi-Nanjing $200 million steel mill begins

Industry Minister MS Hidayat on Friday kicked off construction of a US$200 million integrated blast furnace by a joint venture company in Medan, North Sumatra.

'€œI, on behalf of the Indonesian government, entrust this investment so it can develop in North Sumatra, which is hoped to be a center of development for Indonesia'€™s strategic industries due to its huge potential,'€ he said during the groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction of the steel mill is being carried out by PT Gunung Gahapi Nisco Indonesia, a joint venture between Indonesian steel maker PT Gunung Gahapi Sakti and China'€™s Nanjing Iron and Steel Co.

The first phase of construction is estimated to cost $100 million before it moves forward to the next step of development costing another $100 million.

The first phase is expected to be completed next year and the second phase by 2017.

@ Topic.

Ajaokuta was built by the Soviet Union/Russia with ancient equipment and technology, so why are they even trying to pump billions into that relics?

For the $1 billion the minister is asking for, he can build more than a dozen modern micro-steel mills or 2-3 standard steel mills.

Indonesia is a major steel mill and the above new mill in Indonesia was constructed and stated for completion in 2017 @ 5000,000 metric tones cost only $200 million so the same mill in Nigeria and after fracturing extra $100 million for Nigerian environment, they can build 2 or even 3 new, modern and more efficient steel mills for $1 billion.

Nigerian leaders are antiquated and old just like old and and antiquated thinking and vision.

Our corrupt system and politicians pave ways for even the sane technocrats to start misbehaving whenever they are given political appointments. Imagine someone like deiziani who worked years for shell rose to the level of a director only for her to enter govt and she became so loose. But thanks God for the likes of Fashola and Fayemi. I keep saying our problem lies not with the president as an individual but the system and these cancerous legislators.

It's high time the government came out and tell us what exactly is the problem with this national asset. It's been over 2 decades I have known about this 'white elephant' project with over $1billion gulped up in several attempts to resuscitate it. Decades passed, it's still in the same state of comatose. Once admired national asset has now become an haven for money laundering and other corrupt practices by the politicians.

This same industry has been gulping millions of dollars in the last few years and we have nothing to show for it. Government don't have any business running the Ajaokuta steel factory. Let private investors run the factory and stop dumping the nations money in a black hole cool

This is what yoruba people call Agbana... grin (do-do-mi)
Yes, you are absolutely right! This project is becoming a national disgrace and again confirming the ineffectiveness and lack of foresight on side of the government over the years. The government doesn't want to lose grip on it being a national asset. But I think the way out of this is to make it a P-P partnership arrangement where the government would have at least 51% stake. Bringing in private investors would help distribute the risks involve and also help provide needed expertise and technocrats.

Our system is so bankrupt and insanely polluted and until we clean up our institutions, we are not going anywhere as a country.

Look at PMB, he came in vowing to fight corruption and jail corrupt people, but what happened? Nothing. Though his actions has little or nothing to do with the poor results because he can not fight a system that's so rotten across the board and across so many state institutions from the presidency down to the other 2 arms of government, the legislature and the judiciary.

Look at the reps an the senate, they are not only very corrupt, their entire leadership from the senate president down to his deputy are all on trial or under investigation for corruption and not only that, the presidents pick to fight corruption as the head of the EFCC must be confirmed by the same crooks in the senate on trial and investigation for corruption before the same EFCC pick sent by the president. Where is this done on the surface of the earth? Only in Nigeria.

It's like asking armed robbers to select and approve their own favorite lawyers, favorite prosecutors and favorite judges.

It doesn't stop there, the same crooks and corrupt people in the legislature and across the federal system all have their favorite corrupt members of the 3rd arm of government, the judiciary. They go to and bribe corrupt judges and member of the judiciary for favorite rulings, endless injunctions, even perpetual injunctions.

The judiciary is the last stand against corruption and we depend on them for deterrence, but a whole section of the judiciary and top judges are on trial for different acts of corruption.

So, all the 3 arms of government are grossly corrupt from top to bottom and PMB can promise all day to fight corruption, it won't happen simply because all our institutions and the 3 arms of government are corrupt and incompetent.

What a travesty.
