The list goes on and on. And through all this, the mods have turned a blind eye.
The dealers even had to get a new username to attempt to stop the flood of revelations. I will mention the username because it's been banned.
Oderibah. Go through his posts and be amazed at the levels to which cornered animals will sink.

Yes, sure.

Accident free can be expensive, but some will tell you accident free, first body, clean title and the cars have rolled over and over.

Why not just let them know?

The history of the cars below here are not bad, i will buy them if i can afford them.

But some people will tag these cars clean title.

Selling a car based on false info is really bad. And there is no excuse for that.

as a buyer, you have the right to request vin of what you are buying and run checks on the history. a lot of guides on steps to buy a car are availble on and off nairaland.

you can use the results of your checks as a bargaining chip to get better prices off the seller.

You said it all bro, most esp your last statement.

Imagine a rollover 2008 camry with deployed airbags, damaged frame, smashed windshields but replaced.

Now going for 2.9m last.

Thanks explorer for bringing this up. It is not only on nairaland that this is happening but in Nigeria as a whole. I will advice every potential buyer to do a background check before buying any vehicle. Imagine a situation where the airbag should deploy and safe someone's life and did not because it was not replaced after the previous accident. I did a background check on a vehicle only to discovered it was reported stolen in the US. Some will even rollover upto 100k miles shocked on the odometer. Nigerians and greed

An uber driver lost his life weeks back, first thing I noticed about the corolla was "no airbag deployed".... The guy could have been saved!!! God knows best!!! Cos I dunno why on earth a 2006 corolla won't have its airbags deployed upon collision.

If only Nairaland will enforce the posting of VIN with every advert.

Only confident sellers post VIN and auction pictures of their vehicles.

like I said, we will get there! I'm glad so many enthusiasts are joining this our jolly band wagon, it has become imperative that someone or a group of people decide to act on this issue!

some of them are so bold to a very pitiable extent, it shows how desperate some people are!

now tell me the major difference between an armed robber murdering someone and taking his valuables and someone else selling off a scrap vehicle after the performing cosmetic surgery on it; without duly informing the buyer that this vehicle isn't a buy, drive and relax vehicle and buyer dies in a ghastly motor accident ...... not becos of negligence but ignorance which was carefully and artificially planted by someone else. it is also the same as a tyre dealer selling an inferior tyre to a novice for the same price of the original despite knowing that the car would be used majorly for long travels and without informing the buyer that this one is fake oh

the common factor is the motive, which in every case is to take something from someone by every means possible even when that transition involves extreme measures!
Now we have no control over the motive, it will always be there, the mood will always be there too since we have no standard and legal institution monitoring these so called dealers and middlemen, so they are always basking in the right mood for fraud since there is no repercussion nor perceived consequence.

what is the way forward since we have no control over the motive and the mood.....
we control what we can, the MEANS

Nairaland is only one of the means for these dubious acts albeit one of the most efficient! if we make NL uncomfortable for these folks, they will have to conform to our standards and in no time other forums and public sites will follow the trend!

MMM motive means mood

Yes, these are the reasons I stopped selling cars, you have to be bad to make money cos of these scammers.I sold my last car on here 2014 I think, for N1,050,000.000, landing price was N900k, 2001 camry.after 8 months sitting. So it was a waste of time and investment,I will only do pre order if i venture back again, cos the cost of clean cars are unspeakable since these scammers sell dead cars as great cars for great price.

1st thiing you do is google that make and find location of the VIN, once you know it, go to the car snap the VIN and do physical check, go away and run a VIN check, then the true situation will come to light then make a deccission on waht you see.

Nairaland can't even force the posters to place their price tag on their advert, u are asking for VIN.

Nairaland treats this auto dealers like they are doing nairaland a favour by advertising here, reverse is the case Oga Seun.

Very good.

But I'm wondering how some guys give a detailed VIN result upon sighting the pictures of the car posted. shocked grin

I saw this happened twice on some threads. The seller had to put up a weak defence. I was shocked.

Now, how do these guys discover the true situation of the said car upon seeing the images alone?
