Buyers are always looking for ridiculously cheap cars too. They want low mileage for a 10 to 15year old car. To me, the only reason a 10year old car will have a mileage lower than 100k is accident, that's car wasn't used for a period of time.

Dealers or no dealers, Nigerians are greedy! We want to make so much on just one deal/transaction. Even you wey dey criticise dealers, are you honest in dealing with your clients. You are complaining because this directly affect you.

Last year, I was in the car market for a BMW e70, the prices I got was in the range of 6m to 7.5m for a 2008 x5 tokunbo, and I wonder why cars are so expensive in this country.

I bought the same car for $6000, (auction with high mileage; 170k) accident free. Add $300 to ship in a container with other cars ($6300). Then clearing cost of 950k. Total of about 3.2m.

We are just too greedy.

I am not a saint!

how did you go about the clearing? I plan ordering car from copart

Same excuses I see everywhere. Una rehearse am for midnight meeting? Buyers want ridiculously cheap this, buyers want low mileage that. Buyers want clean title this, yada yada yada.
Egbon no let that one be your excuse. So because you sell rice and people come to your shop everyday quoting and haggling prices, you would add stones and chaff to bulk up the rice and sell less for more? Or you would buy local rice and repackage in imported rice bags?
Crook na crook. Crook will always find an excuse. No be ponzi wey claim say e no do anything wrong because buyers wanted ridiculously high return percentages and he used that to build a fraudulent scheme so big it became the eponymous standard?
Tell the truth and provide the facts about your vehicles, and when these buyers come to you with their ridiculous haggling explain things to them, after all na sales you dey. If dem no gree please move on. There are lots of fish in the ocean.

I don't sell cars! We all have our blames. Everybody can't be forming holier than thou online.

If it looks too good to be true, please check it all over and all over again.

Even the most perfunctory perusal of either this section or the Cartalk section will provide you with the answer to that question. Clue: Vehicle Repair threads, Resident Vehicle Repair experts.

Right section, wrong thread.

I want to commend everyone who has contributed positively on this thread. A stitch in time saves nine, however if you expect this on the front page, you are on a long thing.
The Auto section is plagued with all kinds of maladies and it did not start today or this year. Half truths, false documentation, fraudulent adverts, fake customs documents, and shifty characters abound.
I stopped posting here when it became a process of banging your head on a brick wall and I wouldn't have known of this thread if a poster hadn't tagged my moniker.
The government has banned the importation of vehicles through the land borders and the customs have closed down all vehicle seats at the borders yet on this section we still find dealers advertising vehicles from Coutonu through Idi Iroko and Seme borders boldly. These vehicles can NEVER have genuine documents, yet people patronize these dealers probably out of ignorance or probably due to trying to cut corners.
I hope you guys can keep this up. All fraudsters on this section should be named and shamed.
Cc ifyalways.

I completely agree with you....in addition some customs agents here have been advertising"Tincan customs duty papers for Cotonou vehicles".
This is a scam...even the customs agent who helped me get my car from Cotonou in 2014 when the land borders were still open, confirmed to me on phone & even in his thread here on Nairaland that - there is nothing like Tincan papers for Cotonou vehicles now.
You can search for his moniker on Nairaland - @saintjoel or JELAD Ltd (his business name) - he is a very sincere & trustworthy customs agent unlike many here on Nairaland.

The fact is that these dealers fraudulently smuggle these vehicles through the numerous Bush paths between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
Of course the original bill of lading of the vehicle will read Cotonou as the port of entry. How do they beat this and lodge it imto the customs data base?
They look for a vehicle with similar name to the smuggled vehicle genuinely cleared through Tin can or Apapa port . Get hold of the documents and insert the chasis number, engine number and probably VIN. They hand these documents to the buyer of the car as Tin can cleared so that if the buyer checks at the customs data base the c number will come up as being in the Customs system but the payment is for another vehicle.
So if you are checking your vehicle papers at the customs office make sure a proper check of the chassis and engine number tallies with the numbers on the vehicle being sold to you.
Due dilligence is necessary when dealing with these guys.

Yes. I stand by what I am saying. In fact I posted this criminal activity years ago but a moderator called chelseabmw who has been removed as a moderator hid my posts.
That is why I said fighting fraud here is like banging your head against a concrete wall.I have been insulted so many times on this forum for fighting against fraudulent activity so I stopped posting in this section.
