What is Ambode trying to do here? Inflame ethnic tensions? Doesn't he know that Lagos is a multi-ethnic state with large populations of other tribes.

What he could have done or said was to pass a law ensuring that the Yoruba language is a course on the school's curriculum so that those who want to retain their language and culture can take the class. Don't infringe on every pupil's rights by making them sing the National Anthem in Yoruba. The Anthem is what binds us together as a nation and should always be sang in English, our national language. Stop inflaming ethnic tensions.

its a good step in thd making because most yoruba parents dont speak their dialect to their kids or most yoruba kids born abroad do not speak yoruba when they return home.in all the way,d law must be applied on those who it would benefit.how does it work?
Any kid in the classroom that speaks yoruba 80% can learn yoruba and learn other subjects in yoruba because apart from school, yoruba is learnt by kids who dunno it in the market and on the tv without a teacher.what pains me is that they learn the vulgar, abusive and cursing part of the language.
Area boys and touts indirectly teach yoruba kids the bad part of the language while the yoruba girls and women learn the nonsense abusive part of the language on Africa magic and iroko tv.it doesn't make sense.so its time to teach them the good part of the language in school.

Anybody that have not seen Yoruba tribalism must not be a Nigerian.
You are tribalists. Even your awolowo as educated as he was,was a staunch tribalist.

How much more an ignoramus like you.

Abeg dey go.

Well tribalism must be a good thing then. Tribalism without insult to others is nationalism - odua nationalism i accept.

Every Yoruba must therefore be a tribalist, a non insulting tribalist.

So because an ordinary plank was 'erected' in the honour of your 'hero' who is impoverishing you people everyday with his obnoxious policies, you now fill fulfilled? This just shows the level of pettiness that runs in an average Igbo yoot blood. Bunch of senseless individuals!!! Ogah, teach your kids Yoruba language or you leave Lagos, simple!

They can always go back to their own land. Every tribe in Nigeria have their own land boundaries ok. This is yoruba land and since you Igbos dont know your boundaries we must state it clearly to you. Other respectful cultures tribes are not complaining.

Finally. A governmemt that gets it.

Teach Account, commerce, economics, physics, Chemistry etc in the native language of the students.

I hope they will teach English in Yoruba because you can't allow the language which is a threat to the culture go Scot free

It is neccesary because i discovered that in most of the public schools, even the igho claiming english speak broken to you and if care is not taken, they would baptize u into pidgin english.
i also discovered that some yorubas' cannot speak pure english without shooting a gun.it is so horrible that in the lagos markets 80 percent of trade of the yoruba and igbo is communicated in pidgin english.20% yoruba.yoruba are not selfish ,its d oda way round.but cos of unity we permit too many things.igbo take our lands, our businesses, our markets, our houses, jobs and now our "Language" ? mba no no!

if we talk of markets, igbos are 100percent.tell me 1yoruba man who is a major spare parts dealer, who is a major electronic appliance dealer, who is a major plumbing dealer, who owns a hospital, who is a large supplier of grain food.i can go on and on and u would discover that in our own land,we are relegated! so what are igbos still talking about.why do we yoruba have nothing?

Don't mind the hypocrites. I served in the SE and all government-owned primary and secondary institutions of learning sang the national anthem in igbo language. That was my first time of hearing the anthem in any other language apart from English. I remember feeling proud of them for doing that, I bore , and still bear, no ill will towards them.

I am happy Ambode has chosen this line of action. We need to be pragmatic if we are to survive and progress as a nation. I am happy the government is considering educating people in the Yoruba language.

Some dullards still live in illusion that Lagos is no man land and YORUBA language not your language is official language. Do you know what that means? To say a place like Lagos is no man land is height of insanity.

Begin to develop your geographical land and promote good governance at state and local levels, you might not ripe the benefits but your children will
