It's simple, no public officer should be in charge of funds, he/she should maintain oversight of works etc but not money, there should be a committe that receives list of propjects that needs to be done and election should be made on projects to work on based on financial viability, emergency etc, while they only authorise projects. Something similar to how the american juducial system is being run. Until we get the right system, forget it

Not how it works, in government handling of contratcs companies are placed on a scale, so not just anyone companies can bid for projects, now, if you're a business man with 15 years business records, would you risk your existence to falsify a receipt? Secondly, any receipts that dont lead directly to a company can be termed a fraud and the senatortried for corruption

The revelation by the Senator was the first time a member of the National Assembly will confirm speculations that Nigerian senators are earning N41.5 million quarterly as a running cost.

The Kaduna Senator who made the revelation in an interview he granted to TheNEWS magazine said the running cost was in addition to the over N700,000 monthly consolidated salary and allowances of each member of the Senate.

The Senator said, “I think what we can say is that the running cost of a senator is N13.5 million every month,” the Senator said in response to the question on alleged bogus salaries and allowances of Nigerian lawmakers.

“The constituency project itself is given on a zonal basis and almost every Senator will go with a constituency fund of about N200 million, but it is not the cash that is given to you.

“There are issues that we need to understand. First, I don’t believe that members of the National or even state assemblies should be involved in carrying out what is called constituency projects.

This generation is one of pride. This is the starting point of our problem. Back in the olden days when the whites or any foreign official came, village heads say go call this person, he'll be the one to know what to do. By this it means all society has ranking of people based on intelligence, peopledont want to believe and agree that in some areas some people know more than some and its beneficial to the society to let the guy with the best record go to serve, a lot of people who are shouting making noise in the street ought to seek out intelligent selfless motivated persons to lead them while they follow, but no, every one has turned an activist with no visible head, they scatter like water broken from a satchet, everyone trying to fight for wat they assume is best however not understanding things intimately, our problem starts with arrogance and a lack of submission, there are minds in which the solution to the problems of this nation exist but we fight them for stvpid reasons

Senate should be scrapped let's have only House of representatives, with 3 members in each state and sitting allowance of 100K per sitting then all other allowances and constituency projects cancelled just only 100K per sitting x 3 times in a week then x 12 sitting in a month, meaning a member will be going home with only 1.2million a month without any Kobo again it becomes less attractive for the money bags and encourages young ones into politics. Meanwhile where is common sense senator Ben Murray Bruce and Shehu Sani. Scammers and hypocrites.

Shehu Sani is one of the few decent human beings in Nigeria. I hope he gets elected as Kaduna State Governor or Nigeria's President.

Summarily, a senator earns in one month what a professor earns in almost two and half years. In four years, a senator would've earned What a prof earns in 120 years or What 3 or four professors earn in the length of 35-year civil service. Why won't they kill to get into office?
