New ICC Presidency elected for 2018-2021

ICC-CPI-20180311-PR1367

Today, 11 March 2018, the judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), sitting in a plenary session, elected Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji (Nigeria) as President of the Court for a three-year term with immediate effect
. Judge Robert Fremr (Czech Republic) was elected First Vice-President and Judge Marc Perrin de Brichambaut (France) Second Vice-President.

"I am deeply honoured to have been elected by my peers as President of the International Criminal Court. As I take up my duties, I feel encouraged that I am able to rely on the wide experience of the two Vice-Presidents, Judge Robert Fremr and Judge Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, both of whom I have closely worked with previously. I look forward to working together with them as well as with all the judges, all the Officials and the staff of the Court in a spirit of collegiality. I also look forward to collaborating with the Assembly of States Parties, civil society and the international community at large, acting together to strengthen and reinforce the Rome Statute system, the 20th anniversary of the adoption of which we celebrate this year", President Chile Eboe-Osuji stated following the election. "I am also grateful to the previous President, Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, and Vice-Presidents, Judges Joyce Aluoch and Kuniko Ozaki, for their work and leadership," he added.

The Presidency – consisting of the President and the two Vice-Presidents – plays a key role in providing strategic leadership to the ICC as a whole. The Presidency coordinates with the other organs and seeks the concurrence of the Prosecutor on matters of mutual concern. In accordance with the Rome Statute, the ICC's governing treaty, the Presidency is responsible for the proper administration of the Court, with the exception of the Office of the Prosecutor. The Presidency oversees the activities of the Registry and provides input into a broad range of administrative policies affecting the Court's overall functioning. Furthermore it conducts judicial review of certain decisions of the Registrar and concludes Court-wide cooperation agreements with States and international organizations.

Taslim Olawale Elias was already the first African President of the World Court/International Court of Justice as far back as 1982.

Yet you are celebrating and gloating over a lesser achievement when you are yet to catch-up with that.

Learn to gloat with pride.

Yorubas create standards for Africa without regards to anyone, while you clansmen always try to reference your latter day achievements with respect to Yorubas.

Why must you always celebrate your success in comparison to Yorubas?

Now that you have called us to see your achievement, we congratulate you for almost catching up, but almost isn't near enough.

Everything about Yoruba is always far back and that's why you have this kind of roof littered everywhere in your region. Far back people!!

Far back when you were still in the jungle.

Yet now that you are out, the world is still waiting for you to catch-up with some of such far back accomplishments the Yorubas attained for Africa.

Go tell the Europeans to get rid of their own Gothic architecture of old, so as to erase how old their civilization is at a time some were still cavemen.

So No! While new housing developments exist that you lie to yourself and deny, these testament of old civilization will give you a reason to ponder on why others were ahead of you and why you are constantly on a race to catch-up.

This physical proof of superior history will never be erased.

Yes ooo, history can never be erased. A few years from now what this Igboman has achieved, however less significant to Taslim Elias', will become historical fact whenever he leaves office.

Abi you think say office or position is forever? We are all in this world to make history, and the Yorubas made history that you are yet to attain.

Na im dey pain you for body pass, and that is the motivation for Igbos to succeed in life.

Every Igboman trains his child to ensure to be more successful than the Yorubas have attained, while the Yorubaman tells his child the rich history of his tribe's accomplishments in Africa so as to set him on the right path without regards to any other tribe.

This man was elected based on his experience and nationality: must everything be tribalised in this country?

And you wonder why everything isn’t working for the Nigerian government?.. A nation divided against itself CANNOT stand!

As we grow older... we should teach our children better,... we can’t afford to create the same hatred and problems that our fathers brought us

BETWEEN...

This is an argument I put to all Tribalists on NL..

“To the international community., ‘We are, first, Nigerians, before we are Yorubas or Igbos and Hausas.”

I do not like the British-imposed amalgamation. But the fact is, if he succeeds, the Nigerian judge succeeds... if he fails... the Nigerian Judge failed.

A fortiori, please quit all these hate speeches when a member of other tribes achieves something significant... if anything, we should pray he succeeds. The ICC is known to prey on African leaders, because they are ‘supposedly’ ruthless. But Who is more ruthless than the American and British leaders who commit crimes against humanity in the guise of doing ‘good’.

I pray God grants the learned Judge the wisdom to do good by himself, family and his nation.
